Last year I got some betta fish. Katie, one of my cats took a special interest in the fish. I found her sitting by the jar I had the fish in giving a good look over. I thought that if I gave the cats their own water feature, they would be less interested in the aquariums.
The fountains for pets can be pretty pricey, so I searched around for a DIY alternative. The common denominator for the DIY fountains was the use of an aquarium pump or filter.
You basically need an aquarium pump or filter and a large bowl to give your cats a fantastic moving water fountain.

What is the filter media made of? charcoal? spongy for debris?

You had me when you said, "I can actually speak cat pretty well". Great idea and you should make more videos about your cats. Hope you are doing well.

I put these videos up and then got sidetracked haha. I didn't even realize I had comments. I am doing well and the cats are doing well. I keep saying I am going to make an instagram for the cats. Maybe one day. I hope you are doing well too Thanks.

Hi! I know this video is kinda old, but can you tell me how this diy has held up over the years?

I had to replace the aquarium pump once after a couple of years. Other than that it was great. I ended up taking it apart for a while because I would be out of town for several weeks. When I returned, I didn't put it back together right away and when I did, they were not really interested in it anymore. They graduated to drinking from the tub faucet when I go to the bathroom so that is their treat now. I still have everything, the pump and the bowl and it works, they just don't care about it now so I just put it away.

Did you keep the filter media in the aquarium filter?

Yeah well, I had stuff to say haha. I like short videos too but the Google algorithm likes longer videos.

Why not let them drink out of the fisher tank?

They would probably love to haha. Actually all my fish have died. I had them between 2 and 3 years. I decided I didn't want to get anymore fish.

girl that thing is Beautiful! I love how you used the pebbles at the base. if it splashes they won't be stepping in a puddle. I love it!!! thank you for making this video💗
maybe if you somehow made a large step/platform on the side for grandfather. if he's older he might be used to drinking with his head lowered.

Thank you! Sorry I didn't see this comment earlier. After a while, I realized that they were not splashing or playing in the water so eventually I did away with the pan and the rocks.
