  • The Kunsthistorisches Museum Wien (Art History Museum) was built in 1891 near the Imperial Palace to house the extensive collections of the imperial family. With its vast array of eminent works and the largest Bruegel collection in the world, it is considered one of the most eminent museums in the world.
In this episode Adia shows us what the Kunsthistorisches Museum Vienna has to offer.

At the museum you can see what the Habsburg Emperors collected - such as the world’s largest collection of paintings by the famous Bruegel in the picture gallery, marble statues and gold treasures in the antiquities collection, or mummies and grave goods from the empire of the Pharaohs in the Egyptian-Oriental collection.
The Kunstkammer Vienna (Chamber of art and wonders) with rarities from the former treasure chambers and cabinets of curiosities of the Habsburgs opened again in March 2013. The collection is one of the most significant of its kind in the world and displays precious artworks from the Middle Ages, the Renaissance and the Baroque era. The highlights are the collection of Emperor Kaiser Rudolf II, the exotica complex and the famous "Saliera".

Vienna is the most beautiful city in the world. It's rich in stunning history and culture and you can see it everywhere. The architecture, the music, the art, the people...I gravitate to that city so much. I love everything about it. I've trevel the world and saw many places but none of it is like Vienna. I have to visit it every year, because it's just magical!

I used to live in Vienna and went to the Kunsthistorisches on a regular basis. It has an AMAZING collection of masterpieces from all eras. Absolutely the most magnificent art museum I've ever been to, and that's saying a lot. :)

Lovely, but of course too short a presentation. A slight but important correction, to correct a fault that is too often repeated in the English language. No emperor or ruler has ever built anything ! Some of them were barely able to perform toiletry functions a child is able to do. All buildings that are grand and that we still admire and benefit greatly from, were built NOT BY them, but UNDER their rule. If they had to be built BY them, they would still be a half finished ruin even now. To me, a linguistic but very valid point. Three cheers to the workers and the artists who built it!

The Crown of Monctezuma is held in another Vienese museum while it is part of the Mexican history and identity. The world museum should give it back. Better a broken Crown in Mexico on the right place, than a crown without its historical and people connection on the wrong place in a Museum in Vienna. BTW: The Crown was already broken and you repaired it with feathers from India. The Gold is only 23 percent original. So this crown is already broken. It belongs better in Mexico. You should not keep it. When will you give it to Mexico>.
