- Swiss composer, Louis Broquet, was a monk who resided at the Abbey of St. Maurice in Switzerland most of his life. Born in 1888, Broquet entered the monastery in 1910. From 1918 until his death in 1954, Broquet was Master of Chapel Music for the Abbey. Among his compositions are a suite for organ and the Sept Pieces Breves (Seven Short Pieces). These works, composed in the 1910's or 1920's, have influences of Franck. The second piece in this collection uses soft string and flute stops with a continuous melody using rhythmic themes on the Swell manual. I perform this work on the historic Felgemaker organ at Our Lady of Divine Providence-St. Casimir, Milwaukee.
