Hi Margaret, all of these products you mention are very good, but the problem is not the eye shadow; the problem is the application. For a lot of women of our age or just women that have hooded eyes inherited by her family genes. While on my thirties, I was a makeup artist for Burdines Department stores in Miami, and did the makeup for many high end cosmetic lines, like YSL, Shiseido, Stage Light, Ultima Estee Lauder, Lancome, Channel, to name a few. The problems with eye shadows creasing on the eye lids, is the skin and not that much the brand or type of eye shadow. When a woman reaches mature age, lots of things change, style of clothing, hair, makeup, heels etc... Although we can change styles and materials in the clothes that we wear, we must pay lots of attention to our skin; drinking water to keep elasticity and moisture in the skin of our bodies and mainly our face. Taking all of these in consideration to the topic, here is the eye shadow and makeup tip; Women with hooded eyes, can not apply eye shadow all over the eye lid, it should be applied very high on the crest of the eye, or the socket bone of the eye and only towards the end of the eye, in other words on the end corner of the eye and with brushing strokes high towards the end of the eyebrow; this lift the eyes and fools the look, therefore not able to see that much your hooded eyes. It is a make up trick that all make up artist know, but that the store clerk unfortunately will not tell you, because their job is to sell the products regardless of how it looks, their strong part of their job is sales not the applying makeup part. At the expense of being criticized, I felt that I should share this with whom ever wants to explore and research what I just mentioned. We should be wearing and prepare our face with a good moisturizer, and sun screen, following with makeup (light or medium coverage), a good eye shadow primer and high pigmented powder eye shadow that is not frosted, it should be matte for better results, and then lots of blending. If this is done, the complete look of the eye changes and the eye is opened or lifted, eye shadow will not crease because it has been applied in an area that the creasing is to the minimum. I hope this helps. In my case I love the brown and grey family of eye shadow and just stick to those that compliment all palettes. I have had great success with Loreal, Maybelline, Revlon and Physician Formula, they are not that expensive, do the work and last a long time. 💓

Thank you so much Elyse for your very thoughtful comments. I have tried Maybelline and Revlon and found their pots very drying. I am not able to get Physicians Formula here in Switzerland - but perhaps will order online. Which Loreal matte eye creams are you referring to. The ones i purchased were not very pigmented and did not last more than a few hours. I respect your experience so if you have specific suggestion for eye primer :-)

Thank you for sharing these tips. My (further) challenge is not only do I have hooded eyes but my whole brow has dropped so I don’t have much space between bone and brow now - any suggestions anyone?

@@carolmaughan256 Carol, gravity is not our friend, but we can still do little things that visually enhances our good points and diminishes the bad ones. Many things are to be taken into consideration, for example the shape and density of the eyebrow itself. For years it was trendy to plug our eyebrows to the point of leaving a very fine line and some were shape like round half circle, very much like the movie stars of the 40s, all of these completed change the face features were sad, (I hope I am explaining myself well) Lately, eyebrows are shaped more upward with a higher bridge and thicker, but because we plugged ours the hair growth is absent. The solution...is to draw them with hair like strokes or have them done with dermabrasion, not tattooed higher than were it was naturally position before, as a result, it would leave you more space and you will have more space. The last option and much more expensive is to have them surgically lifted. I had dermabrasion done 3 years ago, because I had almost none left, due to (plugging) and white hair, so I had them done and this way all I have to do is lightly apply some taupe eyeshadow with a thing brush and I am done. I hope I have been able to help you.💗

✨💖✨Wow. Thank you for the great tips. My brows have always been on the light side, so I only did light plucking. I’ve always been a bit on the natural side of makeup. What I found works for me is a light taupe pencil and taupe shade brow mousse. If applied with a light hand, it can look quite natural. Then I use a powder or cream to fill in some of the holes, scars from my younger, wild days. Lol.

I’m 61 and now have hooded and wrinkled eyes. In order to camouflage the hood I take a matte shadow that I put in the crease and bring it above my crease to hide the hood. Then I go on the lid with my Ilia cream shadow and I don’t have that problem. My main thing is to hide the hood first.

I have not had an issue with cream eye shadow sticks drying out or moving around the lid once you blend them in. I’m in my 60’s. The Laura Mercier Cavier sticks are made in the U.S.A. and the Bobbi Brown cream eyeshadow sticks say made in Italy on them. However, they are both over $30 a piece, but I usually wait for a Sephora sale to buy them.

✨💖✨Thank you! I’ve been eyeing Bobbi Brown cream eyeshadow sticks since they switched over from my beloved pots. And sticks are just so much easier to fit in my edited, kinda-minimalist make kit. I don’t mind investing a bit of money if I use it up. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve tossed products that turned out to be a waste of money because I didn’t use it. That adds up to being a more expensive waste.

I too share your frustration with cream eyeshadow performance on older lids but I have stumbled upon a real gem! W7 lift and sculpt cream conture palette! It's $6.98 on Amazon! I use the lighter shades as primer on my lids for powder shadows or to cancel out redness and camouflage veins. I use the brown shades as eyeshadow and on my fair skin they work well as a no crease base or stand alone shadows. Cheap, simple and it works for me!

I like the Capu Vino (I think that is what you said). I am with you, after all these years I am no longer wanting to spend big money on a product when there is so many equal or even better products in the drugstore now. Never looked at drugstore before, but there are so many choices now. Can't say I have tried cream/liquid shadows although I do prefer matte shadows. I might look into Capu Vino. Have a great day.

✨💖✨Thank you for another excellent video. When I watch these, I feel like I’m sitting down with friends for a cup of warmth a relaxation, where ideas and advice is shared. I read and get valuable ideas from the comments your lovely viewers leave. Hooded eyes? My hoods have hoods with side curtains. lol. And as others have stated, my brows have drifted lower. But, it is what it is. I’ve been looking for simple cream eyeshadow that I can Pat onto the lid to lightly dust with a powder shadow. I keep a well edited, minimalist-ish, makeup kit. I don’t mind paying $$$ for a product if it is a valuable addition. I often put my makeup on during the hour long drive it takes to get to town. (Hubby drives.) I won’t tote around items that aren’t useful, and I don’t store much at home. I’ve gotten into the habit of going through my makeup and tossing what isn’t used regularly.
I have found that a gel eye moisturizer helps to plump up my wrinkles and keep makeup slipping into unwanted wrinkles-as opposed to a creamy eye moisturizer. (All bets are off at night; I cream those babies up.) I still carry an Urban Decay Naked 2 palette. The colors are muted, and I can use them to fill in my brows in a pinch. It also has one pale, satiny, shimmer. I like a bit of pale satin shimmer on my lids over my irises. At this age I think I’ve earned a bit of pixie dust, if that’s what I want. There are such beautiful eyeshadow colors and pallets out there, but I know I won’t use them. Sigh.

I feel like I have so many that I’m reluctant to buy more. I have a few of the Laura Mercier Caviar Sticks and they’re good, but no better than the less expensive Kiko Milano you recommended. I bought the RMS and they don’t dry down, ever. RMS reformulated and repackaged their cream eyeshadows. Now in a tube. I’ve seen reviews and maybe I’ll try one. A brand that I may check out is the generic Ulta brand at Ulta stores. I’ve heard their matte and radiant cream shadows are really better than most. I love Trinni London’s and they seem to last. I believe I have enough cream shadows to last a lifetime and not sure I’ll be buying more. Never say never. Thank you for tempting me.

A good eye primer works wonders with cream eyeshadow. Also, I think your look would be better with a "one and done" cream eyeshadow.
MAC paint pots are good. So are nude Stix. But I also like a bit of shimmer.

Agree, that many of the matt eyeshadows just simply do not have the staying power. I have bought Look Fabulous Forever matt power eyeshadows and they are very good.

I guess we all have different eye shapes and problems with eye shadows. My eyes are very very hooded and I have to use the eyelid strips in order to see my eyelids and then I only put some light shadow on the bare area of the lid. You have lovely large eyelids & I can see why you only put it on up to the crease. For me I have to carry the shadow above. I’m ordering the one you mentioned to try & Rare Beauty. I do like the RMS because they moisturizer the wrinkles but the colour doesn’t last. I’ll have to try lots more & let you know if I find a good one that does not transfer.

I think we should be checking on the chemicals in the makeup products we use. There is no official oversight on what companies put in their products. These creams and powders are going on and around our eyes(!), and easily absorbed into our bodies.

I totally agree Virginia - you would be very surprised how many luxury and drugstore brands are made in China and not considered 'cruelty free' I think however for many its a financial decision. If you can't afford a $30 dollar eye shadow, a $5 one is an option.

@@sixtyandme Thanks for your great video. It's great to see a video with someone closer to my age who has the same challenges with makeup, than all the influencers in the late teens or early 20s. I will not buy a product tested on animals and because I have really researched this I can tell you some of the big brands are made here if sold here, but when sold in China, they are tested on animals in China. This includes Chanel, Dior, YSL, Mac, all Estee Lauder and Lancome companies and they own lots of them including NYX. I believe most drug store products are tested on animals in China. But there are plenty CF companies including Urban Decay, Too Fashed, Trish, KVD, Charlotte Tilbury, Rare Beauty (yay!), Hourglass, Gwen Stefani, Benefit and so many more.

We get hundreds of comments and there are relatively few from these types of people. But I do understand your frustration. It is one of the things all RUclips creators have to deal with.
