I Bought An Omega Speedmaster! | My Luxury Watch Collection

- Don't worry, there will be a new watch collection video coming shortly. However, there's been a recent addition that I want to share with you today--an Omega Speedmaster! I've always loved the Omega Speedmaster but never thought I'd be a Speedmaster owner for a variety of reasons, including size and the overwhelming history of the watch--it was a rabbit hole I wasn't prepared to go down until now. Regarding size, my Speedmaster--the First Omega In Space--is actually 39.7mm, which is slightly smaller than most, which are generally of the 42mm variety.
In this video, I'll take you along for the purchase of the watch, show you the watch unboxing, give you the history of the Speedmaster First Omega In Space, give an in-depth look at this particular Speedmaster, and of course, talk about why I decided to buy it. Enjoy!

For those asking, the book I show and talk about is Moonwatch Only: bit.ly/2SUYEby
I could buy a seiko watch for what that book costs 😂
I just saw the title :) Thanks
Can I ask you an off topic question? What breed is your dog? Looks to me more like a Bohemian Sheppard than a German Sheppard.
@@vecernicek2 long haired German Shepherd
@@hespokestyle Ok, thanks! The 'long-haired' part kind of explains my uncertainty. Anyways, it's a great looking dog. I love shepherds.
Your watch taste is just as impeccable as your fashion style! No hype watches, just pure class.. Great pick Brian!
I appreciate that, Randall. Thank you.
Agreed, has me chuffed to bits.
Great taste! I bought mine sapphire version one about two years ago and love it every single day. Every time I encounter someone wearing a speedy is always a classy, professional person with great conversation.
Got this exact model a couple weeks ago. Enjoy wearing it. Drooled over a speedmaster since I was 14. 11 years later, I bought my personal grail watch and decided to go with the FIOS since I like the case size, the more dressy look with the strap, no crownguards and the applied logo. To me, this is THE one watch to have for a lifetime (the standard professional too of course)
Very cool! Congrats!
Speedy, HSS notification - I click, I watch, I already know I'll like
YES!
For several years I've considered buying a speedy, but for some reason I never did. I don't have a huge wrist either, so I was mainly looking at the 40mm models, but in the end I liked the Speedy Professional the best, and I wanted a display caseback, so I finally ordered my sapphire sandwich last week. Should be arriving next week... 🤞
I got mine a week ago... I have quite an impressive collection with multiple watches worth 20k and up but I was pleasantly surprising how fast I fell in love with the speedy... now i get why people say that you ain't a collector till you have one of these in your vault.
Did you end up liking the fit?
@@johnlocke3481 I've already sold it again. It's a nice watch, but in my opinion it doesn't really feel or look very premium. The movement is nice to look at, but the rest of the watch feels rather unrefined, so I believe there are better watches in it's price range.
@@mdesmet9111 Thanks! I’ve never actually owned a luxury watch and have been studying them for months to figure out what to get. I’ve looked so much, I feel like I’ve already owned, and gotten bored of, my original favorites. My taste keeps changing and I may never buy one if this keeps up 😅. Today I purchased a used (minty w/ box and papers) Hamilton Khaki King ii for under $350 just to stop this search temporarily so I can have my mental energy back 😂
@@johnlocke3481 I think it's a rather normal phase in watch collecting. I started buying watches that I liked, but after a while I had 15 watches and none of them was really a keeper. So I sold all of them and started over. Now I only have 7 watches, but I'm really happy with them.
Within a few years we all gonna look back on this handwound Speedmaster and acknowledge the amazing value this piece was. It will sky rocket in price
Agree. It’s never not in style. Rolex has the mystique of being the best among people who don’t know anything about watches other than “Rolex” is the best.”
Great video Brian! I like how you managed to tell us enough about the watch without it being a full-blown watch review video (not that I don't love those too). As with your style and other videos you kept things balanced and appealing to a wide audience. Looking fwd to the updated collection video!
Thanks so much. Watches are most interesting to me because of the stories behind them--personal and otherwise.
Congrats, a fine piece and very iconic indeed. I'm more of a sucker for open casebacks though, chronograph movements are a beauty to look at IMHO.
May you see good times with it ;)
Also Coco is a real star, we need more Coco.
Haha MORE COCO!
After plenty of times watching this video, I finally made up my mind to purchase this wonderful watch. Thank you very much for your recommendation and comments, I really feel happy to be able to find this FOIS, which also totally fits my style. Looking forward to your upcoming great videos!
Great choice! I bought mine 2 years ago and no regrets here! It has a timeless appeal and goes with just about everything! Worth every penny! You will love it!
Class watch. I bought the speedmaster professional from the Omega shop in Glasgow a few years back and got invited to a dinner where they had a guy who worked for Omega in Geneva come over and gave a history talk on the speedy. All the centre pieces on the dinner table were speedmasters. Fantastic evening.
Fantastic watch, was waiting for this video. The history of the speedmaster makes it that much more unique for me.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Fabulous choice Mr. Sacawa! Enjoy your new watch and fantastic video as always.
Thanks, will do!
Congratulations on being a proud owner of a Speedmaster and that beautiful dog.
Thank you very much!
Congrats on your FOIS Speedy! It is an excellent piece. If you haven't tried the 42mm Pro on your wrist, you may be surprised. The 42mm measure includes the asymmetric case that encompasses the crown guards. The actual width of the bezel is closer to about 40.5mm, I believe. Also the curved lugs may prove to sit better on a smaller wrist than you might expect.
A special moon edition with contrasting chrono dials is one of my dream watches. But I will have to be content with Seikos for now
Very cool. I hope you get it someday!
Same Here with Seiko! But they are also awesome watches!
Check out the speedy tuesday speedmaster
I hope i get it too as well one day. A Seiko of course. Coz i only have a casio 😂
In the meantime you can check seiko 6138 panda/reverse panda) hard to find though.
It's a beautiful watch. Excellent choice and congratulations. I have a Speedmaster too but the Moonwatch, it is such a classic, one can't go wrong.
Couldn't agree more!
I’ve looked at the speedmaster first omega in space as well as the speedmaster professional... i am a man with a wrist size of 5.5 inches, even smaller than most women, but i found out that this model even though with smaller diameter, has almost the same lug to lug length as the speedy pro... the speedy pro in fact wears better with the curved and twisted lugs, whereas this model’s lugs stick out straight and doesn’t hug to wrist as well... but most importantly, as long as you enjoy what you buy, all’s good!
Congratulations Brian! Now you just need a see-through caseback and you´re good to go :). Wear it in good health!
Cheers.
Disagree. Solid case back is original and in line with original. It's against your wrist all day if you actually wear your watch so who cares. Unoriginal and out of sight. Seems like a pretty lame reason to have one. I mean, to each their own. I think he made the right choice. See-through case back is kind of like fake thence on a sports car. I know there isn't an exact comparison but I think both are just kind of lame.
@@john-carlosynostroza Well I would love the open caseback so I can see the chronograph. Matter of preference here.
Congrats on your purchase, that is a beautiful watch! I believe the FOIS and the Speedmaster Professional size similarly with same lug to lug dimensions around 47-48mm. The FOIS does not have the crown guard, hence the smaller 39.7mm diameter instead of 42mm with the crown guard.
Thanks for the info!
@@hespokestyle you’re welcome! Like you I also prefer the FOIS, it has a more vintage and classy look 🙂
Nice! You really needed one in the collection! Congrats!
Yes! Thank you!
Congrats Brian! I also got an Omega No Time to Die Edition yesterday!
And also, keep them videos coming!
Always looking forward to them! 🙏🏼
NICE! Do you love it?
@@hespokestyle it’s fantastic, the details are nice too.
I do love the Speedmaster. My favourite version is the reduced, but any of them are great. Congratulations! Your collection is amazing.
I bought a Speedmaster Professional 3861 Sapphire a week ago...love it. It is on a bracelet but have also ordered two straps - black fabric one and a grey NASA velcro one. Should be fun. The only problem so far is that I have not had a manually winding watch since my childhood and I forget to rewind it.
I like your sweet spot timing video length & straight to the point review, keep it up.
Really appreciate that comment. Thank you.
Congratulations on your new Speedmaster! I’ve wanted to add one to my collection but haven’t pulled the trigger yet. I have a fairly large wrist (7 3/4”) so the “standard” 42mm is a good size for me and I don’t have that excuse. Now you’ve got me really thinking about getting one! Again, congratulations!
Many thanks, Dan! Hope you find the one you want!
That watch is beautiful. I love brown straps with dark faces. I think it ups the class and looks extremely elegant.
I totally agree!
Congrats to the FOIS. I think you can pull off also the original Speedy professional, that said the FOIS is a beauty and great addition to your collection. Wear it in good health and have lots of fun with the latest addition 🙏🏻🙏🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks so much!
The watch looks killer on your wrist @3:09. I actually just bought one yesterday. I agree with you on the points you made. I love the smaller size. I love no crown guards, and ease of wind, I love the pre-moon watch classic vintage look. I think it looks the best out of most 42mm speedy's and it is certainly more UNIQUE. This is the next best thing besides spending a fortune for the new 321 Ed White. And honestly this is a great watch in it's own right. Incredibly undervalued in the watch community. I think the value will go up in the future, but that doesn't matter to me! It's not leaving my collection!
Got one on my wrist as well. You're gonna love the watch. Wear it in good health. Although I would have to say that watch can be purchased new from an authorized Omega US dealer for much less than the pre-owned eBay price.
Thanks! Don't see how it's less than eBay--brand new from the boutique is $5300.
@@hespokestyle I recently purchased an Omega Planet Ocean from my local AD an they gave me 20% off retail.
@@hespokestyle It's not a Rolex with crazy long waiting lists, so Omega AD have room to give you 20-25% off MSRP. Got my FOIS brand new for 25% off MSRP. My only gripe is that I wish Omega made a proper fitting, vintage style bracelet to go with this watch.
@@crumbsnatcher74 Check out this: forstnerbands.com/
@@hespokestyle Oh, I like that option and it doesn't cost an arm and a leg either. Looks a lot like the 60th anniversary Speedmaster bracelet. Leave it to a small after market brand to come up with the bracelet that nearly every Omega Speedmaster owner has been wishing for.
Just found your site. Love it! Congratulations!
The Leather strap is perfect for this Speedy - I’m searching for one just like it. Where can I get one?
Thanks again!
Many thanks, Andy. Hope you've subscribed! Actually, sorry, strap is the one that comes with the FOIS.
Thanks! Subscribed:)
I could buy any Speedmaster and I chose the FOIS. You chose well, my friend. Such an elegant piece and so so underappreciated.
Great video! Looking forward to the updated watch collection video. Cheers from Sweden
Every respectable collection has to have a speedy! It goes w sooo many and practically all strap types whenever you feel the need to change it up, leather and nato are my favorite 👌🏼
I just found this channel and loving it! I’m a speedmaster owner myself. Congrats on this beauty!
Welcome to the club! I recently bought my Speedmaster Professional in celebration of my firstborn son. I also opted for the FOIS but after wearing both of them in the boutique i was certain that the Professional was fitting my style more. Still in love of the FOIS and it's straight lugs, Alpha hands and applied Omega logo tho.
Enjoy!
Very nice watch. I love Omega, the quality, style and history what more can you ask for? I bought a speedy last December and I have zero regrets. Good video 👍
Yooo whatttt, this guy was like a big part in my saxophone learning and interests. And now I see him again when I'm into watches. I'm some weird high schooler man
Looks great! Proportions are spot on. I watched your collection review a couple of times. Definitely looking forward to an updated review. I'll watch it again as I can't recall all the watches. I'm sure the 5711 is still there 🤔
Congratulations the enjoyment has just begun.
I own the 42mm speedy pro hesalite, it fits me just fine( close to 8" wrist) and i like the thing to death.
Waited long time for your new video Brian! & what a pleasant surprise! It's like one of my dream watches. Another one is the rolex datejust with silver jubilee bracelet you own. Hope I can buy them soon in sha Allah.
More to come!
Congrats , Brian ! Amazing watch that suits you very well !
Great size for you Brian. really like this watch, will probably buy the same one!
You should! And thanks!
Massive congrats brother, beautiful piece! Lookin forward you having you on my podcast one day to talk about watches and fashion!
Let's do it!
@@hespokestyle !!! Just sent you a DM on IG.
Congratulations - I also have a Speedmaster CK2998 Blue (same size - I also don’t like watch over 41 mm on my wrist so this size is great.) Hope you will enjoy it....
Sits perfectly on your wrist. Hope to acquire one in the future as well. Awesome video as always. Cheers and stay safe.
Great watch, pleased I got one as it has a vintage vibe that calls out to me. Matched an older style Omega bracelet and it looks killer!! Enjoy this stylish timepiece in good health.
Greta watch! I hope to own a Speedmaster myself one day. For now I’ve settled for the Dan Henry 1962 Evil Panda. It’s more of a Universal Geneve Nina homage than a Speedmaster one but it scratched the itch for now.
Nice! Those are great looking watches.
I’m working up to getting a Moon Watch, my first true luxury watch. I’m going for a hexelite crystal though. I love the dome of the crystal. Can’t wait.
Another great video! Could you talk about your VC Traditionnelle next? Or... in your future SOTC vid?
Sure thing!
Thank you for sharing your new purchase! You'll love wearing that watch, I wear my Speedy Pro during spring and summer more often, when I can pair it with a casual long sleeve shirt and jeans. I also wear it on a leather strap, and speedy is a monster strap, or a King of straps. May I ask what is the title of the book you have purchased about the Speedy? Thanks in advance.
I bought a 42mm speedmaster a year and a half ago and I have never worn it 🙄 Now that things are opening up again maybe I will have a chance to wear it soon. In my line of work the watch would get destroyed quick. Nice watch you have there, congratulations on a fine purchase 👍
I just got the Ed White "Cal 321" in stainless... love the retro case design ... love the caliber 321.
The FOIS and the Speedy Pro have actually about the same lug to lug measurements (47-48mm) and wear quite similar. The 2mm difference only comes from the asymmetrical case and thus the added crown guards. The problem is with the bracelet of the current Speedmaster Professional models where the end links 'overhang' the case. That's what make them wear so big. Just swap it to a strap or a bracelet which doesn't 'overhang' the case (e.g. 1170 with 633 end links, 1479 with 812 or go for an aftermarket bracelet like from Forstner Bands). If I can wear a Speedy Pro on my 15cm / 6 inch wrist, you can too.
Yes, that overhang makes it so different and bigger on the wrist, so I mostly wear mine on a strap instead of its bracelet.
@@rlejano check out the bracelets from Forstner. They are around 150$ and are a modern (aftermarket) version of a vintage Omega bracelet
@@DuyLongBui hmm thanks for the tip, I certainly would. Am looking for the vintage Omega style indeed with taper. I dislike what’s on mine and heavy on wrist!
Hi Brian, great buy! Did you compare that FOIS vs Speedy automatic? I guess you’ve decided on FOIS due to the history x obviously! I’ve started to expand my collection due to staying & working at home the past 7 months (a lot of free time for youtubing). I knew & respected the history of speedy being the space watch etc., but speedy was not in top list, reason was same as yours: 42mm and too me chrono dial seemed not minimalistic vs divers. I got a u-turn episode discovering the speedy reduced/auto being 38mm & suddenly the dial of speedy becoming so appealing + hesalite vintage effect, very strange indeed! I pulled the trigger and get myself a speedy auto and loved it a lot.
One of the reasons I always enjoyed & subbed to your contents even before you showed us your collection is you always mentioned the watch you paired with your outfit and inspired me as well. It will be great now that you’ll be showing a speedy with.. suit & informal attires? Surprise us
Thanks so much for chiming in!
Great video Brian ! I was in need of my dose of HSS after 2 weeks without videos ahah!
Your passion for watches really shows. A very well deserved and beautiful watch ! May it bring you much joy.
PS I was wondering if there is a way to contact you in private ?
You can use the email in the description. It will get to me.
The astronaut you referred at 6:25 to was Walter Schirra (pronounced Sher RAH). One of the original Mercury Seven heroes we idolized back in the 60's.
Hi Brian. I have this watch. And like you I love the classy appearance. Understated yet very high quality, and the manual wind let's you bond with the watch (or is that just me?) Very nice choice!
Great watch! I like the reduced size of it. Can you share the song you used whil unboxing the watch?
I'd have to has Ian--he does the editing.
Really impressed with you watch knowledge mate
Appreciate the comment!
How in hell you went from nothing to a nautilus without getting a speedmaster is beyond me. That is some strong love for the nautilus lol.
You have to take the opportunities as the present themselves.
@@hespokestyle Very true.
Thanks Brian. Great looking watch.
Thanks, Ron!
It's a good choice and as someone with wrists about the same size as yours, I tend to have the same issues in terms of choice. My Longines Diver is actually 41mm but wears smaller on its bracelet, but generally I stick to 40mm or less. I chose a reverso in medium rather than large, and have my eye on some of the JLC ultra thin models. I was pleased to see the Lange worked well for you as I was worried these would come off looking too large! You've added his Omega model to my watch radar.
How do you find the Longines? I'm looking at buying one
@@alpirl2921 I like it very much. Have had it almost 10 years now, which pre-dates the ceramic bezel. Id probably choose a ceramic if i was doing it again.
LOVE this with the brown leather strap!
Same. I think it's a great look with the black dial.
If you filmed me buying that and turned the camera around you would have seen the worst grimace ever. I love that watch, every time though I spend that kind of money I just freeze before finally saying F it and clicking buy. Its probably funny to watch. No regrets though! Beautiful piece of history there!
The speed Master, especially the moon watch whether date or the classic no date is a must in every high end watch collector. Good choice adding this watch to yours, but why go on the strap piece. You should have bought one with the bracelet and if you're keen on straps, just buy an additional leather strap with an Omega deployment or even classic buckle. Yes the cost would have been higher but not more than 8 to 10% more. It'll be like having 2 watches. Some use strap during fall/winter and bracelet during spring/summer. I do the opposite as the watch wears more comfortable on my wrist when wearing a jacket. I love a good leather strap. From gunny to fine calf skin and gator/croco but unless it's a straight dress watch I want the bracelet. The speedy is a great sport/casual even dress watch (not strict) great mechanism with 100m WR. I would like to see, and would certainly buy a third one, if there will be an edition with ceramic tachymeter bezel. Over a decade ago ceramic was adopted to a large number of brands that manufacture diver watches, why not on sport chronos. Some may argue the vintage look that the either steel or aluminum give but then again those days ceramic was not an option.
I am getting close to pulling the trigger on one and only thing holding me back is the black leather croc or steel edition....can’t one just buy leather and later buy the steel bracelet if needed?
@@cyber5677 usually when buying the bracelet afterwards you pay a lot. Did that once with early editions of Seamaster Chrono. Bought it on an amazing blue shark skin, then a month later (no leather will last in water especially sea water) bought it's bracelet. Paid for the watch mid 90s $1,900 and for the bracelet $700 ! That is why I always suggest, get it on bracelet, the get straps.
@@mathewazzopard8100 Interesting! Here I was thinking only a couple hundred but then I googled and was surprised! Cheers bruh! I’m definitely pulling the trigger on the steel now 🍻!
@@cyber5677 very glad I was able to share my experience, enjoy it in good health:)
The blue and white dial Ck2998 is my favourite. They need to comeback out with this variant cause I NEED IT!
Hahaha. I hope they do for you!
@@hespokestyle 😉 the Snoopy 50th anniversary looks a bit similar but it's too much and it isn't double the worth of a Moon professional even if it's running on a calibre 3861 imo. Lemme know your thoughts, Maybe I'm wrong on that?
Great choice! Great size! That version is more elegant! Your pup is gorgeous1
Thank you so much!

Hey, i love the vid! I have an omega speedmaster premoonphase 145.022-69 with a beautifully tropical dail.
My question whats the name of the book you are speaking about and for which prics you bought it?
I really enjoy manual winding chronograph movements and this particular one is one of those too.
The only thing that ever stops me to add it to my collection is the very inappropriately looking index at 12 o'clock...it is just so off putting every time I look at it .
Great and informative video.
How is the letter Omega inappropriate?

Hi Brian, I've got a couple of quick comments if you don't mind:
1. Thanks for everything you do, I like the channel and look forward to the HSS/MA collection.
2. I've noticed that, recently, you've seemed to dial up the energy in your presentations, and added an intro video with lines like "Unlock your potential." While others may feel differently, I can't say I'm a fan of either. The laid-back style seemed much more genuine. And I'm just here to get some style inspiration and see what looks good, not for some profound spiritual awakening.
3. I've also noticed you no longer list links to the pieces featured in the video in the caption. Why not? That was a great way to help viewers locate pieces they liked and "discover their purpose" :p
4. Thanks again, and all the best!
Thanks for the feedback, Michael. You may not have any sort of deeper connection to style and what it can do for you personally, but many do, including myself. Regarding links, I am one person and there are many facets to my business and I simply can't prioritize everything. Creating links is incredibly time consuming and little ROI. I hope to grow the team in the future to help out with these things.
@@hespokestyle Got it, that's fair and I completely respect your response. Thanks again!
Would love to see your SOTC in 2020, cant wait for it.
I think its very different to the last one :)
It's coming!
Nice video as always! P.s. i think the hands are lancet style, not leaf style. Leafs are more slightly curved/rounded
Beautiful timepiece especially with the brown leather strap 😍
That’s funny. I am thinking of getting one myself.
Though I am weird and want the “reduced” with the sapphire crystal.
Whatever you love!
The speedmaster is inconspicuous and nobody is gonna hate. The biggest benefit of this watch as long as you don‘t talk to watch lovers😂
Speedmaster and spyderco! A man of culture, i see.
I give a thumbs up to every one of your videos but an extra quick one to this video for the giant leap pun.
Haha glad it landed....
Great review. It looks like you have the strap in the smallest hole. I have a 6.25" wrist, and have been fearful about buying any Speedmaster. Also, if the strap is bolstered, it is even tougher to get it to conform to my dainty wrist. Any thoughts, anyone?
The FOIS was a great choice!! Tbh, these can be found brand new with a discount for around $4k, but a great selection nonetheless :)
Can you explain to me what FOIS means and what's the difference between this and the sapphire sandwich and closed case back speedmaster... I'm so confused
@@Ammar88ist yessir, the FOIS stands for First Omega in Space and is based on a watch that was worn to outer space before the speed master made it to the moon... thus it replicates that (pre-moon watch) watch which is 39mm instead of 42, but still comes with a sapphire crystal, however with a solid case back this time
@@Reoniz OH, i get it. So the so-called numbered edition speedmasters are all FIOS and NOT moon watches? TBH if you put the sapphire sandwich and a FIOS on the same bracelet, i couldn't tell the difference at all. But i guess the reason i bought my sandwich was the clear case back so I'll take it! Thanks for the reply mate, appreciate it.
@@Ammar88ist I gotchu no problem, I have a sapphire sandwich too! And the display case-back played a major role in my decision as well. The case shape is quite different between the two, particularly the lugs. If you google pictures of them next to each other you should be able to see what I mean!
