Wow, the D780 is a beast! How awesome! Thank you for another awesome review. One day maybe after this hump in life for us all then I could try out the D780 for myself. I am in love with Nikon's tech, they have done a superb job on all of their cameras. Thanks again brother! Always on top my friend!
A little tip for making home made chips or even fires. You want to blanch your chips or fries in the oil at 200 degrees first for about five minutes and then let dry. Almost like a par cook. Then you want to fry your product at 350/400 for an even crispy cook all the way through.
It took me almost 2 years to finally accept the fact that I needed a new camera. So so many sources were indicating toward moving towards mirrorless and I almost did (the z6/7 look interesting but I just wasn't sold on the size), but then I saw your video and you helped me realize I should go with my gut and I pulled the trigger on getting the D850 and even that 35mm lens you mentioned. I'm actually excited about upgrading and the odd anxiety I felt about it is finally dissipating lol
have a D750 and decided to purchase the D780. Well I can say it is a fabulous camera - it fixes all the annoying issues with the D750 and adds great integration and the Snap Bridge software to my Sony XZ2 is awesome - the camera is nearly as easy to use as my Sony smart phone. The touch screen is excellent and fast. Uploading images - great - the 2MB limit for JPEGs is perfect for social posting. The buffer issues are gone - I purchased 300mb/ 100mb cards. Nikon have done excatly the right thing for me. I have a few FX F mount lens - 24-70 f2.8 VR2, 85mm 1.8g, 20mm 1.8g. So did not want to have to replace those. The Z6 looks super exciting and its firmware is getting better - the Z6 is a bit 'small' in my hands. The D780 tethers nicely to Darktable and has new wireless options. So for me its an excellent upgrade and a pleasure to use

Taylor, now that the z6II is released how do you think the D780 compares? I am leaning towards D780 from my D750 because I want to dabble in video. What would you recommend?
Their mirrorless series is for sure the future of the brand. So I’d push you towards that if possible. If you don’t need 2 card slots the original Z6 is even more of an awesome deal now, and pretty much as good as the Z6ii in most ways
I’m not sure how important a view finder for video is. The small camcorders I’ve owned in the past all had screens. And my current travel bridge camera, canon G3X, has no view finder. Having said that most of the video I have taken is indoors, predominately and stage events.
Great job keeping the content fresh during The Rona :) We love your channel, my 8 yr-old, too. So at 8:32 -- Minor nit-picky point -- the D780 is compatible with (ai) lenses made since 1977. Pre-ai lenses (1959~1977) would have to undergo ai conversion. Trying to forcefully mount an unconverted, non-ai lens would damage the mount. The only Nikon DSLR able to mount unmodified 1959 lenses is the Nikon DF, I believe.
Even tho it doesn’t track the eye through the viewfinder it does track the face in auto area af and group area af as long as the eye/face detection feature is on.
Would love to see a comparison of each of those cameras again now that you have played around with the Nikon Z6 ii to see how they compare. Recently purchased a D750 to start photography with. In the future when I need a second camera I'm wondering if it's worth it to have the Z6 ii and all new lenses, or just get the D780 and be able to only use that one type of lens. My thinking would be to do hybrid coverage in the future once we're comfortable with doing just photography for weddings.
I was thinking of adding a Z6 to my D750, but I can see the advantages of one camera like D780, where at the flip of a switch you can go from video to photo and back with saving custom settings in U1 or U2 or video settings separately. Time to rethink: D780 vs. Z6. All depends on how much video you do if in camera stabilizer makes sense in z6. Thanks for giving us this video to see what D780 can do. I will likely sell off my 80D and Canon lenses to get one or the other. I have many Nikon lenses so staying with Nikon mainly works best.
All I know is in photo mode my D750 AF's works really well and I'm happy with it. It's just video that the AF is poor. I get round this by just using single point non continuous AF - it does work for 95% of the time but the subject obviously can't be moving 😊
Same here I've been hybrid event shooting for 5 years with mine. I wanted better video AF so it's a real dilemma to know wether to go with the D780 or the Z6.
I have used many SLR's and DSLR's but the primitive OVF's, relatively poor video capabilities, huge size and weight make the DSLR experience poor outdoors, and they are only pleasant to use on sticks in the studio. I started with medium format and 4x5 in 1962, and have seen many camera types come and go over the decades, but once getting used to mirrorless, it is clear that the DSLR will slowly fade away over the next decade. It is also plain that Pentax is the only company that is still sinking any development costs into DSLR bodies. That will probably keep them going for up to a decade, but I can't help but imagine a future obituary for Pentax - the company that couldn't let go of the past. Don't forget that CD music sales were still increasing years after the iPod and iTunes were king, and CD sales didn't peak until 2015. The DSLR must be getting close to peaking right now, or already past peak sales. With no new DSLR's other than Pentax coming to market, expect DSLR sales to nose dive.
@@artistjoh People and companies like new shiny things. None of these new bodies will appreciate in value including older digital DSLRs. Mirrorless bodies irritate my eyes. Was about to go with this camera until I found out the D780 doesn't support a battery grip.
It has a 2000 shot rating lol
@@galantbeast battery grip is very important for because i shoot weddings and have big hands so a small camera is very uncomfortable for hours.
Then get a Nikon D6
@@zonloe3268 6.5k! Yea I'll pass
Does anyone here use a gimbal or axis stabilizer like a Ronin when capturing video? I have always liked videos captured with the proper video gear vs counting on IBIS. Just a thought.
I used to use a zhiyun crane 2

That is what happened to my 750. I jist purchased the 780 Friday. 😒

Taylor, thanks so much for the prescient review. I'm still on the fence regarding which to buy, the D850 or D780; but I can probably make a decision one way or the other on this review. @chriserichorn
You can't wrong with either really. Enjoy the new camera! :)
@@TaylorJacksonPhoto Thanks again; I have plenty of time to think about this, as I live and work full-time in Medellín, and it does not look I am going anywhere soon! I'm looking forward to your review of the Tamron 35mm 1.4, as that is on my list to possibly buy whenever I do get to visit the U.S.
The D780 seems like it is a nice mix of both worlds and could get more video options along with smaller file sizes than the D850 but yeah they are both looking beastly, either of these options will be amazing my friend:)
I love the ideas you have with your photo shoots. Master of the craft! Thanks for the inspirations!
@@earthwalker4538 Thanks again for the feedback; again, it looks like I have plenty of time to continue thinking about this, i.e., like most people overseas, I'm not traveling anywhere for a while.
❤❤❤
