Ya. I have the still D600 as my travel camera. Nikon raw weak processing on Lightroom. I'm facing this colour issue with the D750 and Z5 & Z50. Nikon must work for that. overall best camera for portrait Photography.
having tried mirrorless for few years my next camera would be the D780 because I am too tired of changing batteries and having to turn off the camera when I am not using it to preserve battery life, occasionally missed a few shots when needed to turn on the camera for it.
The only Nikon body I own is a D610. However, I have all the Nikon F glass I need . Been looking to add the Z6II to my kit for a long while but kinda' waiting to see what comes out next in the Nikon line up. The FTZ adaptor is a bit pricey but I can get one for about $150.00 used on MPB. The Nikon Z50 on the other hand, will be in my kit in a few weeks. I know it's a lengthy comment but SEO loves this. 😎
I love the D610! I’ve owned a few haha. Yea at this point, I’d see what comes out next for full frame Nikon Z. You have great cameras and lenses, no need to rush. Thanks for commenting Vic!
Dude, I have the D610 love it and now a z50 I was looking for a Z6II but after watching reviews, I'm worried that the AF is not good enough because I'm trying to shoot birds and I was looking for something better than the D610 and also not bigger too, but now I decided to wait and continue enjoying my D610
Good review, just one comment on lense options. You award a point for the Z6ii over the D780 because the latter cannot use z mount lenses. What about the vast number AF-D lenses that are excellent glass for the money that the D780 can ise but not the Z6ii? I fell for the hype a while back and now have fhe Z5. While I used to pick up many AF-D lenses for next to nothing, macro lenses, wide angles, primes which my old D7000 offered and the D780 still does, there opposite is not true, as z lenses are simply too expenses and there are no used offerings. For most mortals, there are many more lenses that the D780 can use but not the Z6ii, than the other way round.
I also preferred D lenses over G. I award the point to the z6ii because even with reduced function, the D780 cant hold Z lenses AT ALL. At least with the Z camera your f mount aren’t totally useless.
@@ZWadePhoto Fair enough, thanks for the reply. For me, and I’m sure for many who are even vaguely bang for buck conscious, the missing out on AF-D autofocus is a much, much bigger pain than missing out on Z completely. By far most z lenses have AF-S equivalents that are less expensive. Not even to mention AF-D. Just one example, and it applies to many lenses. With a DSLR I can pick up a 80-200 2.8 AF-D for a tenth of the price of a Z mount 70-200 2.8. And I can sell former after a trip for almost the same price. But the price of the z mount in this case ks prohibitive. Since this lense is used for wildlife where quick responses are the order of the day, lack of autofocus means this lens on a mirrorless where it lacks autofocus, in spite of the bargain, is almlst useless on a z mount. Sure the 70-200 z mount is a newer lense and has VR. But if I want that, and if I insist on new, I can have that too with the 70-200 AF-S for slightly more than half the price of the z version. No pain at all in not being able to use z mount in this case, but depending on who you are, a lot of frustrations on not having AF-D autofocus. This is not to mention 3rd party options. That means that for Nikon, in practice, F mount simply has many more (full autofocus) options, across the budget/function range, including equivalents for the z mount option while the reverse is not true. There are many advantages to mirrorless, but on lense options, at least for Nikon, on my opinion not only should mirrorless not get a point, if a point is awarded it all, it should go in the opposite direction. The bottom line is that if you want a real pro piece of glass with autofocus, at least with F mount, a hobbyist and starting out pro can do that. With z mount many of those same people simply won’t be able to. I was aware of this, but was told that manufacturers have fewer restrictions with the being closer to the sensor, and would be pumping out great value z lenses in no time. This turned out not to be the case. I wish I’d known that, it may not be the game changer for wverybody is it is for me, but I really think for people sitting on the fence this matter, at least, ought to be mentioned.
I own the D780 and I own the Z5. I also have the D750 before that. I am in "I love the DSLR experience" camp. To me DSLRs have better handling for professional portraits and product photography. I like the control layout. I use the Z5 when I want to go outside light and small, and for personal work and also some video work. The Z5 is also a great travel cam. I may sell the Z5 and upgrade to Z6ii to get some added features and a bit better AF functionality. I mainly prefer DSLRs for pro photo work though.
I have a d750 and d780 and thinking of replacing my d750 soon since it's nearly dead. I love the difference between the d750 and d780, a lot more features and everything, but I don't know if i should replace it with another d780 or z6 ii. So the thing is I'm mostly shootings weddings in really dim places it's like 6400 iso on 1.4 and the AF through the viewfinder is just not working, but the low light af in the live view works okey, but how much more benefit would ti be to switch to z6 ii for the low light af functionality? Ones i tried a some nikon mirrorless camera and the first thing i didn't like about it is the lag when shooting through the electronic viewfinder which you don't have with a optical one, so what's your opinion on that one?
The lag is always more apparent when running really dark scenarios, but most of the time I don't see a lag on the Z6ii. If you really want to hit it every time, the Z9 is the only game in town for Nikon at the moment. If I was in your shoes, I'd wait to see what the Z8 brings, should be soon. If speculation is correct, it will basically be a smaller Z9 in function for between $3400 and $4000
I'd still like to see a back to the future video with your first Nikon DSLR the d5300 and the kit lense it came with and comparing it to an old photo you took when you first started to now if you redid that shoot with your new skillset. Good video though that K you for validating my purchase lol because that's why we come to RUclips for either validation I bought the right thing or rage because a review or comparison outcome is wrong because it didn't validate ME!!!
I have a D5600 and am torn between D780 (used or new) or Zf. Zf is more expensive and has the newer lenses support, but D780 is the latest Nikon DLSR and I could get lenses for cheaper...
I don't tell people how to spend their money, but as a long time Nikon user, and having experience with all brands DSLR and mirrorless, the Z lenses just rule. So for, Nikon is beating Nikon and that's a good place to be. Z mirrorless optics are so sweet. If you plan on shooting long term, the ZF would be a good thing to save for, and slowly decide with F mount lenses you want to keep, and which to slowly transition.
I also think the D780 (D6 also) was a heat check for Nikon. This is a way to see if they should or shouldn't continue DSLR production. I think we're definitely not goinh back. But with how durable Nikon bodies are and I think we'll have back stock. The D500, D780, D850, and D6 will all be accessible to its primary audience until they die. Obviously for the pro wedding, sports or wildlife photographer this is a problem. For everyone else, these cameras will last 20-40yrs into the future if not the next 100 before they actually flat line. By that time the Z line will be competing with the next best thing.
I absolutely hate the DSLR experience compared to mirrorless. I have long since moved on to Sony and MFT. However, I still use film and have plenty of Nikon glass, so a D780 is in my future for its ability to use screw drive AF-D lenses. If they release a mirrorless camera with a screw drive AF motor (or an adapter with an AF motor built in)then I may buy into Nikon mirrorless, but until they do, I prefer Sony and Panasonic for my mirrorless needs, and the D780 is a nice update for my older AF Nikkors.
I actually want to move to z system, but I still love my AF-D lens. If only the FTZ adapter support AF on AF-D instead stop on AF-S :( D780 is really a beast.. what a superb camera.
@@ZWadePhoto Wow! That's a real game changer, for real. So many people building their nikon system for years, so many awesome old lenses. If it happen, Z camera would be so much more attractive. Switching to nikon z cameras first, and over the time they will start building z lenses collection. Thank you for the information :)
I think in 5-10 years from now, the D780 is going to hold up much better than any mirrorless camera. More displays and tech mean more wear and tear, failures and glitches (generally). Also, the new lenses make zero difference. Sure, they're technically a little bit superior, but there's still NOTHING wrong with the F mount lenses, and give any decent photographer either set of lenses and you won't be able to tell which was shot on which after an image is actually processed or printed.
General rule of thumb, never buy the first iteration of any product. Buy the 3rd. Works mainly with cars. But if you look at a Nikon, we got the D300, D700, and D3 as its 3rd line of digital cameras, and each are exceptional in their own right. For Z mount we're nearly at that next point with the Z6 and Z7. I think both headed into iii will comparable to the D3 in terms of advancement over it's prior iterations. Nikon is slowly but surely moving into cinema and also trying to bring back market shares over Canon. That Red acquisition really does put it back intl the conversation of the big 3. With its new Raw capabilities that surpass even what Red had puts the giant in a favorable position for the future as Canon, Sony, and Fuji don't actually have real Raw capabilities, not on the same level due to that little fine print.
I see much much less back focusing issues with the D780, as is the bane of Nikon. Use a Sony or Canon and you'll understand where I'm coming from. The D780 really seems to mitigate this somehow. I don't understand it. However even the LATEST super sharp Z8/9 will backfocus as much, or if not more than the D780. Those are monstrously wonderful cameras too. My D4s is on par with D780 on this small issue. But from an action standpoint, I've yet to find a Nikon that has improved upon this. For reference I'm currently shooting a D7500 with a monster sigma150-600 for trackside shots, and a D4s or my D780 for 70-200 f2.8 range shots. I've just picked up a Canon R6-M2 and some average non-L lenses and am BLOWN AWAY by it's focusing, color, speed, and lightweight performance. Lens selection is abysmal in the Canon R-world. I'm torn at this point, but won't spend another dime in the Nikon verse until the Z-line can catch up with the competition. Best regards and happy shooting.
@@mcoffroadinaz4075 depending on what Z cameras you’ve used, I think the Z8, Z9 and Z6iii are right there with current AF standards and expectations and in some areas exceed. I’m a lens guy though, I want the best glass I can get and Nikon still has the best optics as far as 35mm goes. Thanks for watching!
@@ZWadePhoto Canon just released 3rd party restrictions on "some" lens. I'm hoping to see some comperable lens to my Nikon collection. The Z62 does seem to be a bit LESS contrasty compared to my DSLR's or this older Canon R62. Not sure with what's up with that. I can't afford Z8's and Z9. I'm just an amatuer photographer.
D780 shoulda got a point for being able to use al the old cheap lenses from ebay natively. Prices have really come down on great glass! The adapter has limitations. I wish nikon made one last DX dslr for this reason. Now this is a whole different story with Z6iii. Way too much camera for a non-pro user though.
@@kennyadvocat it was hard to do that when people are getting increased performance on Z9, but an honorary point is appropriate for the people like me that hate the bulky adapter. Thanks for watching!
@@ZWadePhotoyour conclusion was that the D780 was a "stopgap" concession to DSLR users who found the Z6II just not quite good enough. Then the Z8 came along but it's a bit expensive, but, now there's the ZF for the same money as the D780. You have to be really, really obsessed with AF-D lenses to buy a D780 over a ZF now don't you? What do you think? I'm hoping for a big price drop on the D780.
I don't want coming into mirrorless world for the Z6II or the Z7II : they sucks.. They're not reliable as a dslr yet (the best choice you can do are the Z8 or the Z9, that are too much expensive cameras , though). I'll wait for a ZIII, at least! In the meantime, I'll certainly keep on working with my beautiful Nikon D780! Cheers. D.
D780 is a great camera. I think the Zii still have a good place in the market. For anyone who is early in photography I’d still give them the edge since that’s just where the industry is going. But for sure, the Ziii need to finally buy the argument to bed haha they need to be on thr Z8 Z9 accuracy level 👌 thanks for watching!
For me, there was one major reason why I chose the D780 over Z6 II: lower power consumption. Living far up north where the best astrophotography conditions are during the sub-freezing months, having the same battery on a DSLR helps it to hold the charge longer in extremely cold temperatures.
Just throw money at them and they grow into a D850 and a Z9. I use both. "They both shoot differently but generate amazing results....kinda of like you and Vahagn. There sucker! Take that argument to the bank." - Jared Polin
I can’t answer that for you. I suggest renting both and testing. But lenses for Nikon Z6ii without a doubt are better than lenses for D780. In my opinion
Great video and hugely entertaining! Just a couple of points to consider, you gave a point to the Z6 for it's electronic viewfinder over the D780's optical? Really! I think the lag stands at about 2 minutes between what you see and what happened 2 minutes ago (OK, slight exaggeration, maybe it's a minute?). And the other thing is you ommited to mention battery life, the Z6 take 3 pictures on a full battery, so budget a bunch of cash and a big bag for all the batteries you'll need (another exaggeration, maybe 5 pictures per battery). Thanks for the upload 👍😊
Did you fall asleep watching pal? lol 1:45, no point given because EVF vs OVF is individual preference 4:35 point given to 780 for its battery life. Lol
Strange, the D780 is the best autofocus. And yet, in studio, with 3d tracking, up close , i do portrait, the nose is sharp. I never have itnon my d70p or d4 strange.
microfocus adjustment for that lens maybe? Is it a Sigma Art by any chance? I always had to dock mine for a correction when using on a D750 back in the day. If it's an actual Nikon lens you can use the microfocus adjustment in camera if I remember correctly.
Idk 🤔 same price as d750 6 years prior. As if there was no inflation in 6 years. I guess it depends on what you want in a camera. Thanks for commenting Phillyboy!
@@ZWadePhoto Wade, I recently rented the D780 and Z6II. To my alarm, the Z6II seemed to have worse autofocus than the D780. The autofocus system on the Z series often gets confused and cant focus on whats right in front of it, or it back focuses. No such issue with the D780. This is really disappointing and probably why so many mirrorless users are hesitant to pick up a Nikon. You seemed to mention this in the video. Would like to know your opinion as to how this is even possible.
@@borlach321 it doesn’t have to be this way. All Nikon has to do is give us firmware. They have been holding out. The Z6ii and Z7ii do have the guts to be WAY better. They pretty much have been corrected for early bugs. Meanwhile the D780 is running on multi decade improvements in Auto Focus. I image that’s why the differences were so stark. As far as Auto area AF, the D780 is going to the Z6ii until Nikon fixes the dumb stuff. But, they will. Probably when the Z6ii launches, I know, that’s a dirty move, but still. At THAT points I think the Z6ii will smoke the 780 all day.
I would say the auto area behaves better in the D780. The Z6ii has options that work WAY better than auto area though, but I never use any of them. I’m very much an Single point AF, or face eye tracking.
Listen....get the d780 if you love photography...the z6 ii will frustrate yoy.....if it is a business get the z6 ii and pack lots of batteries, and get through you work without worrying about the nitty gritties that make photography a lovable hobby....
So... you're doing a whole video about two cameras, without actually trying them ? There's a MAJOR difference if you tried them in real life. The D780 has the 3D track focus, Vs regular AF-C focus on the Z6II. To me, none of the mirrorless Nikon did was usable as far as autofocus. Being used to great autofocus since D700, I can't go back to Canon 5D like autofocus... Now for video, they're actually both pretty good, but the D780 is limited with AF-S lenses, the autofocus movement are definitely visible on the DSLR, whereas it's smooth on the mirrorless. And the 10 bit video is actually very nice as long as you don't shoot in low light !
Ok my bad, I see you have a video showing you bought the D780. Have you tried the Z6II ? I did... not the latest firmware though, hopefully they improved, but last time I tried, the autofocus was almost as bad as the first Z6... unusable for professional use. The Z9 when released was a lot better - and finally bringing the 3D focus to mirrorless. But wasn't as reliable as any good DSLR. Now, after 2 years of updates, I can say that the Z9 is actually better at AF than the D780... I don't know if it's better than the D5 or D6, since I never used them, but it's definitely really reliable, and the eye autofocus give it an advantage to DSLR.
This is why being professional on RUclips is hard. I know there are plenty of channels out here that just say s**t for content, but not me. You found the D780 video, there are probably over 100 videos on the Z6ii on this channel. Over 75% of the videos were probably recorded in the Z6ii. While this video isn’t an opinion piece, it’s just spec stacking really, I don’t make hardly any videos on anything that I haven’t used. Thanks for watching though 🤙
Nikon failed on the firmware update follow up on every v2 owners of z6/z7 line up.. they gave us a lame useless 2 processor camera..yes i can accept the shortcomings of the V1 z6/z7 but giving us the z6ii/7ii and only minor very minor upgrades from the previous gen is very insulting!🤬 all i can see in YT is Z9 here and Z9 there👎 what about the people who doesn’t need a heavy build like a tank body? Come on Nikon!
One of my biggest complaints. I don’t the the dual processors are worthless, I think Niko. Is intentionally disrespecting it until a new version. Then we’ll get the firmware. I’m not happy about that fact. Lol
the CIPA rating are always WAY off. The Z8 was hilarious because people were throwing a fit and I can only kill the battery if I don't charge after multiple photo sessions and 2-3 4k youtube videos. lol. They are comically off on their ratings.
Well not ALL of it is theoretical BS, but there is a lot of stuff that shouldn’t bother people and it does, but my newer way of thinking is the photographer should be able to make up for most technicalities with good light, a good angle and/or some good post. Then it comes down to only what feels good, looks good to you, and makes you want to shoot more

Nikon raw weak processing on Lightroom. I'm facing this colour issue with the D750 and Z5 & Z50. Nikon must work for that. overall best camera for portrait Photography.
I have not experienced any weaknesses in Lightroom editing RAW images so thats a surprise to me.
having tried mirrorless for few years my next camera would be the D780 because I am too tired of changing batteries and having to turn off the camera when I am not using it to preserve battery life, occasionally missed a few shots when needed to turn on the camera for it.
I’m lucky enough that work is all artistic so I don’t have to use the camera all day. Never had to change in the middle of a shoot
@@ZWadePhoto
Fair enough, thanks for the reply.
Thanks for helping the algos!
Hahahahaha validation served
I agree with you on that my dude 🤙
I absolutely hate the DSLR experience compared to mirrorless. I have long since moved on to Sony and MFT. However, I still use film and have plenty of Nikon glass, so a D780 is in my future for its ability to use screw drive AF-D lenses. If they release a mirrorless camera with a screw drive AF motor (or an adapter with an AF motor built in)then I may buy into Nikon mirrorless, but until they do, I prefer Sony and Panasonic for my mirrorless needs, and the D780 is a nice update for my older AF Nikkors.
I can respect those that still like the DSLR experience, it I’m with you, I’m a mirrorless person now ha
Nikon Z5 with the 35mm f1.8 for some automotive photography. Would love to see your take on it!
I unfortunately do not have the 35mm!
I actually want to move to z system, but I still love my AF-D lens. If only the FTZ adapter support AF on AF-D instead stop on AF-S :(
D780 is really a beast.. what a superb camera.
I don’t know if it’s true, but I’ve heard that an AF-D adapter is on the way. Which may send me back to be a lens collector lol
Sure. There are still plenty of D3 out there that are still kicking too.
Thanks for watching!
🤙🤙🤙

@@ZWadePhoto Canon just released 3rd party restrictions on "some" lens. I'm hoping to see some comperable lens to my Nikon collection.

@@ZWadePhoto Thank you for the answer. Have a great day! D.
For me, there was one major reason why I chose the D780 over Z6 II: lower power consumption.
Living far up north where the best astrophotography conditions are during the sub-freezing months, having the same battery on a DSLR helps it to hold the charge longer in extremely cold temperatures.
Makes perfect sense! Thanks for commenting my friend! Hope to see you more often around the channel
Just throw money at them and they grow into a D850 and a Z9. I use both. "They both shoot differently but generate amazing results....kinda of like you and Vahagn. There sucker! Take that argument to the bank." - Jared Polin
Exactly. 2 different cameras that are basically the same five or take this and that haha
Nikon D780 vs Nikon z6ii which is better than buying wedding shoot in villages

Hmmm, that is bizarre. ITS BROKEN!
microfocus adjustment for that lens maybe? Is it a Sigma Art by any chance? I always had to dock mine for a correction when using on a D750 back in the day. If it's an actual Nikon lens you can use the microfocus adjustment in camera if I remember correctly.
My only issue with the D780 is the price.
Idk 🤔 same price as d750 6 years prior. As if there was no inflation in 6 years. I guess it depends on what you want in a camera. Thanks for commenting Phillyboy!
Used in near New condition is a very good deal!
So... you're doing a whole video about two cameras, without actually trying them ?

340 shots hahaha itook like 500 pictures the other day and still had 67% battery how are these cipa ratings so far off?
the CIPA rating are always WAY off. The Z8 was hilarious because people were throwing a fit and I can only kill the battery if I don't charge after multiple photo sessions and 2-3 4k youtube videos. lol. They are comically off on their ratings.
I'm only interested in image quality and low light performance. The rest is theoretical BS.
Well not ALL of it is theoretical BS, but there is a lot of stuff that shouldn’t bother people and it does, but my newer way of thinking is the photographer should be able to make up for most technicalities with good light, a good angle and/or some good post.
