That Kale looks more like Spinach to me! 😉 I tried Curly Kale for the first time a while back and absolutely hated it, it was horribly tough and chewy, but I now gather than ditching the stalks helps with that, so I am planning to give it another go!
A lot of people have said that. This is baby kale which does look a lot like baby spinach but is a little tougher. If you use curly kale, definitely cut out as much of the stalks and firm parts, and cook for an extra minute. Some people like the chewy stalks. I don't, so I can see how that would be gross.
You can tenderize the curly kale by soaking the kale in a pan of water and add a bunch of Red man’s Real Salt- the salt removes some of the water from the kale and so it reduces the volume of kale and tenderizes it at the same time. You can then sauté your kale in a pan with garlic and onions or what ever your heart desires!
I’m thinking I’ll try this mixed into mashed potatoes. I’m on a Scottish dish kick and I think all that flavor will mix well with simple potatoes. Thank you for this. I’ve only made kale soup.
@@derryXDINESCan you so a video on more mature jale? In the UK it's hard to find baby kale, just kale! I already heard that baby kale cooks very soft. However. Its a struggle with more mature kale, so I save it for juicing. Would love to find a way to cook kale softer, tried massaging but yea...😢

Great recipe and it looks great! Thanks for sharing! Does this method actually make the Kale "soft" and "tender"? I'm looking for a way to get rid of the chewiness, which prevents me from eating and enjoying it.
Yes it does. what I used in the video is baby kale, but if you're using a tougher, more mature kale, you may need to simmer a little longer (10-12 mind tops), but once done, it will be tender and tasty! you can overdo it, though, so I would experiment to get it exactly how you want it.
I came to YT searching for a good recipe to finish off this huge bag of torn kale. Tonight I threw a big handful of raw kale, half a diced avocado, about 1/8 c chopped walnuts and a drizzle of commercial sesame/ginger dressing in a bowl. Not bad. Tomorrow night I’ll do your recipe. Thanks!
Great question! Most canned beans are already cooked, so my suggestion would be to drain and rinse the beans and add them at the same time as the kale so they warm through. This might add a few minutes to the cook time too. Depending how much liquid you want, you may have to add more stock and adjust the seasoning, but I'd do this slowly and taste along the way.

Sure! The cider vinegar is to add some acidity. Greens work really well with acids. If there's a vinegar you really like, that would also work. Obviously the flavors change if you use something like balsamic or red wine vinegar. Honestly, you can even leave that out and this will taste great too! You can even put in a little of your favorite hot sauce instead of vinegar (use less) for a spicy kick. Lots of ways to customize this!
O I’ve never seen kale that looks like that before. It looks and behaves like spinach. Kale doesn’t normally wilt like that. The Kale that we can buy in the UK doesn’t look anything like that.

@@Britineeng awesome! So glad you liked it. It works with other dark leafy greens, so spinach, chard, kale, bok choy, even more stalky things like broccoli or string beans all come out great this way! You just need to tune the cook time to where you like your veggies.
