    1) Stop thinking in extremes
    2) Stop over-generalizing the negative
    3) Don‘t minimize the positive
    4) Stop mindreading (very important haha :D)
    5) Stop taking all the responsibility (accept your achievements, don’t make yourself small, how much control/ influence do you really have ? etc.)
    6) Stop forcing your own rules on life... don’t be so hard on yourself :)
    7) Stop making stuff up and believing it !!!
    Thank you! :)

Heather, Practicals are needed to reduce negative thoughts. Your breath is directly related to your mind [brain] causing negative thoughts-anxiety For a relaxed life sit on a chair, back erect, hands on lap with palms upwards, eyes closed, be still and observe your natural incoming--outgoing breath at the entrance of the nostrils for around 10-15 minutes or more. Let thoughts come. Slowly negative thoughts will reduce and relax the mind. Whenever you are free during the day or night sit still for a few minutes and observe your breath. Being still reduces negative thoughts. Make it a habit. Do the above meditation regularly to have a better life. Best wishes and prayers. Shyaaam Sir. -Counsellor.

My motto is 'think about what you are thinking' if its negative stuff then shut it out of your thoughts. Shout at yourself if you think that helps to kick the bad thoughts away. You CAN change your thoughts around when you are focused on them. Just dont allow yourself the luxury of self pity or negative sloppy ways. It takes a bit of effort to switch yourself around. And it's for your own benefit.

Very well introduced (explained why it is important to adopt a more positive approach of thinking for our physical health and wellbeing), encompassed and elaborated, plus exposed with verve and confidence, this was very useful! I love the use of examples, which resound with all of us, I believe... Quotidian situations which explain it in detail.

I used to be way too much of a positive thinker and seeing only the best in people around me. It resulted in my putting up with a lot of really poor treatment and staying in situations that have had significant damage to my mental and emotional health.
Now I find myself struggling quite often with knowing when to see the best in a situation, and when to actually walk away because it really isn't a good relationship or environment.

Some people harm others even kill others without meaning to and I have realised that caring/kind people wishing to help such troubled types need to keep themselves safe. Without meaning to be some people are predators on kind people and this can leave the kind person damaged mentally or even physically. It is so easy to trust someone who seems put upon/portrays themselves as a victim and cries out for help. You are right that we are always being encouraged to think positively (not judge even) but I agree with you that this can be very dangerous indeed sometimes. It is not easy to walk away but for survival it sometimes has to be done - without delay.

In my defence of negative thinking, I will say this. I feel safe. Life requires less courage. Complaining is one my fave hobbies.
I expect the worst and I'm usually not disappointed. Life can be surprisingly good, because I don't expect it to be.
The world needs negative thinkers. We focus on what could go wrong. Therefore we encourage carefulness and concern. We evaluate. We assess. Some positive thinkers are headed for disaster. Because they haven't planned. Spontaneity is fine but being unprepared is asking for trouble.

Ironically, I find your advice about being lax with expectations too stiff. There are exceptions to this. I once dated someone who told me that it was a deal breaker for her if I came too late to the airport to pick her up. Even if it was just a minute too late. At first this might sound unreasonable but she was right. Let me explain how I come to this conclusion: I am someone who is often not extremely on time. When the expectation is set, like at the work place, I am on time. But as soon as the other person is a bit lax, I am notoriously not on time. At uni this pattern was so pronounced that just by looking at my arrival times in class, one could get an idea of how laid back the teacher was. So my partner had made it very clear that she expects me to be on time and not one minute too late. And I was on time because i cared about her. This is an example that shows that there are situations where sticking to expectations, no matter how unreasonably stiff it might look to an outsider, is useful. For my taste her expecation that day was a bit over the top but I acknowledged and respected what was important to her and could show my appreciation by not letting her down.

Brother whatever you are saying is really my problem. But the problem about negative thinking its coming to your mind in less than a second. Invade your mind so fast and when you are physically responding it put you away of therapy. For example. I set with my friends and take the lead to talk .i start speaking with full trust of myself with normal attitude. In the middle of talking it comes to my mind ( why did you choose such long story to tell. You know you cant continue?????????
Than time of anxiety comes especially of ending the talk still far. Adding the problem new negative thinking comes to add problems. Ooooohhhh now people are noticing that your color changing.
Im really trying to get away of that whispering person inside me to live normally like others

@@sortofcute As I have mentioned practice being still with out moving much and observe your breath. Feel the stillness within you just like monks. Try to reach a state of equanimity. I remain still for a few minutes anytime day or night and observe my breath. I am totally relaxed. If you are looking for a major transformation then do the famous Buddha meditation known as "Vipaasna" practiced all around the world. Check on the website if there is a Vipaasna centre in your city or country. Best wishes. Shyaaam Sir.

Talhah Khan hi you don’t have to worry about death. It’s inevitable. Death happens everyday what you can do is pray. And educate yourself about death. There’s a lot of verses in the Bible that talks about death.

@@simplybuyer1 Hi, I can tell you one simple thing, you have been thinking about the death all these days right? but you are still alive...
So when one has to take birth and when one has to die is been already programmed by the Almighty...
Whatever we think will not happen, believe me. And good that it's doesn't happen..
Almighty knows what's good for us...
I would say, let's not interfere in the administration of GOD...

@@simplybuyer1 if we are good to our body then, we would die as programmed by the Almighty. We are just travellers in this world. When we die we would be going to a much much better place than we live here.
