  • The National Museum of African American History and Culture is honoring Black History Month with some special programming. This years theme is African Americans and the Arts, which uses art as a platform for social justice.
"I think for Black History Month it is just as wonderful to explore all of the different context that make this country great for social justice and history. As "African Americans in the Arts" is our theme this year, what better place to explore culture in art than the National Museum of African American History and Culture.""said Deirdre Cross, Director of Public Programs, NMAAHC.
Deirdre Cross says the museum has wonderful exhibitions featuring African American Arts, including paintings and sculptures. Cross also say there are literary arts featured throughout the museum including speeches by Sojourner Truth, Frederick Douglass and Langston Hughes.
The museum also features special programming for children.
"We have programs that appeal to and work out for families that have very small children to internalize this experience and to learn more about African American History," said Cross.
Since it's opening in 2016, the museum has welcomed more than 10-million visitors in-person and millions through its digital presence.
