Right?! Every hotel had a rage-inducing enemy in the later stages, haha. You can defeat a Wiggler by jumping on its heads 4 times (if you accidentally land on any other part of its body you'll die) or with a single fireball, but they will respawn (just once, thankfully!) so I'd recommend defeating each one twice before moving on to another floor.
Honestly though. XD I love Hotel Mario but I’ve never gotten past the cloud hotel because both of my CDI’s no longer retain their save files after they’re powered down and I can never bring myself to play past it in one sitting. I also don’t like leaving it on when I’m not using it. One day I’ll finish the game though! 😆
@MatchaFoxx Just save your game with the initials 'B_ ' (B, underscore, space), and you can jump to any Hotel when you load your game!👍 *in the Retail version, sadly doesn't work in the Beta

From the game ending abruptly, it could be theorized that this could've been a Demo made during development to show off at Trade Shows. But this is unlikely.
Hopefully someone can access it! I was able to find several .rtf files via IsoBuster that I'm assuming are the cutscenes (they're labelled 'intro' and L0-L8) but I couldn't figure out a way to convert them into a video format. If anyone knows how to convert .rtf files, please let me know and I can compile them into one long video!
@@gamepakrat One possibility might be simply swapping them around to make the game play one file when it thinks it's loading another one Edit: I just sorta managed to load the last hotel in game, but only the level itself and it's a bit buggy, if there were an application that could rebuild the rom from the extracted files it would be easier to modify but I couldn't find any that can do that
@@gamepakratI got good news and bad news. The good news is there's one more audio difference before the last Hotel. In the final, Princess Toadstool simply says "Boys!" and gets kidnapped once more. However, that's not EXACTLY how it was meant to be. In this prototype, Mario replies by saying, "Princess!" and THEN she gets kidnapped (which lacks Bowser's laugh). Unsurprisingly, no music and/or sound effects are heard. The bad news? Well, there's no audio for the ending cutscene (where the Princess is rescued and thanks the player) from the final present on the disk, as it instead uses an audio of a cut Roy cutscene that's also unused in the final. I checked.
3:20 It could be they haven't forgot to include Peach in the cutscene and it was rather a decision to recycle the animation from the intro to save the budget. Why would she go there in the first place? Unless that was supposed to be Wendy disguised as her, luring Mario and Luigi to another hotel.
This is absolutely history in the making. Very rarely, once in a blue moon, a beta disc could be found. However, never in my wildest dreams i ever expect to see one from a game that popularized the ytp craze. If were lucky enough, hopefully beta 64 would look into this as well

I actually managed to look through the audio files, the audio for the hotel 7 intro exists, the only difference (along with no music and sound effects) is that Mario says "Princes!" right after she says "Boys!", I don't know if any animation data exists though

One thing I just remembered about the game is that there was a special death where if Morton goes in the same elevator as you, only he comes out and coughs up Mario's hat. I wonder if that was different in the beta...
That's in the Beta too! Can happen in both Morton & Roy's boss fights. It can also happen in Ludwig's boss battle but there wasn't a unique death animation (just Ludwig exiting the elevator).

You forgot to mention last video that the cloud enemies from Lemmy's High-ate Regency Hotel actually have a slightly different sprite, with the mouth being smaller in retail. Anyway, kudos to you for getting this dumped!
Thats a bummer the rest of the cutscenes arent here. I would recommend resurfacing the disc as it is an old game.but if the disc is pristine, im happy our journey ended here.
Definitely going to hang on to it! It might not be as 'valuable' now that it's been dumped but it's still a really unique addition to my Nintendo collection!

Did you happen to find the two warp pipe cutscenes in Morton and Larry's hotels? Or the piggy bank cutscene in Wendy's? That might be some more things to search for! (Even if it's just more stereo channel test audios XD)
The warp pipe in Larry's Hotel is missing/doesn't work in the Beta but I hadn't heard about one in Morton's Hotel! Do you know what stage and/or door it can be found in? I also hadn't heard about Wendy's Piggy Bank but I do recall hearing a cash register sound so it might be in there. Either way they all probably have that 'LEFT RIGHT' audio track, haha.

I'm still surprised that Hotel 6, Stage 8 is how far we can go in this Beta. Maybe there was going to be a Hotel for Iggy between Wendy & Bowser's hotels, but the Beta can't load it so it crashes. Or Bowser's hotel just doesn't exist at this point in development.
At least the audio for the next cutscene still exists. As you'd expect, most of the differences lie in the (now typical at this point) lack of BGM, though there is also a slight difference in the dialogue, with Mario replying to the Princess.
So I guess there are no beta versions of the "where there's smoke there's fire" scene or the final cutscene with Princess Peach thanking Mario and Luigi? That's too bad.

I have to wonder. There's possibly a cutscene that everyone have forgotten, including myself. In the retail there's a cutscene where we see Mario getting transported through a orange pipe, which I think is some kind of warp pipe. Is there any sign in the beta of this exact cutscene and if yes, is there any different compared to the retail version?
I'm pretty sure that cutscene plays when you find the secret warp zone (enter the door on the top floor of Stage 5 in Hotel 3) in the Retail version. The warp zone unfortunately does NOT work in the Beta so I'm not sure if the cutscene files are on the disc.

Mario also said Princess when Princess Peach Disappeared which in the retail game. Mario does not say "Princess" when Peach disappears the second time. By the way the Princess’s name is called Peach that is what Nintendo officially called it even when they were remaking Super Mario RPG instead of going by Toadstool like the Original they went with Modern Peach. Even when Mario met The Princess in the Super Mario Bros. Movie she was called Peach. I like it called Princess Peach!
If you mean the screen with the numbered boxes, you have to save your game (select 'No' when prompted to continue) and you'll be taken to that screen when you go to reload your data. The level select cheat from the Retail game (save your game with the initials 'B_ ') doesn't work in the Beta. My CDi loses all saved data as soon as I turn off the console (the internal save battery is long-dead) so I had to play through the entire game multiple times to reach/record later stages.

It does indeed, pretty much the same as the release version, but the release version has some duplicated frames,I assume to lengthen the animation

You can use Jpsxdec to rip CD-i audio files, they're all in the wave format so they are already uncompressed.

The level select cheat from the Retail game (save your game with the initials 'B_ ') doesn't work in the Beta.
My CDi loses all saved data as soon as I turn off the console (the internal save battery is long-dead) so I had to play through the entire game multiple times to reach/record later stages.
