    Subaru WRX STi Final Edition - review: aex.ae/2n51bj9
    The Subaru WRX STi Final Edition is the very last road-going offspring of a gold plated world rallying dynasty that first started back in 1994 with the Impreza Turbo. While Subaru hasn’t been competing on the world stage for over a decade and the WRX STi hasn’t worn an Impreza badge for nearly as many years, the car has been our last remaining link to that halcyon time where Subaru ruled the rallying roost. And as the WRX STi says farewell, James Batchelor takes a closer look…

    Had one around the millennia, was happy enough with it, until I got my first RS4, then I really noticed it the difference in build quality and pure performance. But you can't compare those cars directly, of course, but the Sub had less understeer and even with much less power, it was involving to drive and a lot of fun.

    Driving a Subaru is like running barefoot, driving a Golf R is like running with Nike's latest high tech running shoes on.
    In a world that is becoming more and more sanitised, the WRX STI's demise may feel like an inevitable consequence of progress but when they're all gone, I'll miss the occasional sound of a flat four burble rumbling in the distance, followed by the sight of petrol heads looking up to catch a glimpse of the rally legend.
    I feel a little let down by Subaru, but I'm grateful for them giving us the car in the first place.

    £34k for this special edition is worth it , though it is sad to that Subaru will stop doing the WRX STi and remains a part of their spirited heritage.

    Love the car, probably the best raw hot hatch out today. There are so many ‘wolfs in sheeps clothing’ on the market today, the golf R, RS and S3 for example. Subaru make proper hot hatch’s, they look like one, go like one and they put a big smile on your face every time you drive one👍

    No one will miss it.....Subaru should be ashamed of themselves for letting this car linger and not move itself on in any meaningful way. The performance has barely changed in its 15 year history. 2003-2004 STi’s were 300-305hp.....and 3 generations later it’s pushing another 10hp or so more, with no significant improvements to ride/handling, crappy interior, meanwhile competitors such as the MK7 Golf R, Focus RS, and even latest version of Civic Type R have upstaged it in many key areas. Very impressive Subaru 👏 I’m honestly surprised they can move any of these things at what they are priced at

      business costs a higher now than 15 yrs ago , Base wrx sti sells for 3,667,000 yen Japan , 370z isn't cheap either 3,950,000 yen . In 2003 both these cars cost 3,200,000 yen . Dollars devalued why your dollar doesn't go far . If a Manufacture sold a wrx sti for 3,100,000 yen they would stop building it

      Very well said James. I agree with you 100% (and I am a Subaru fan). Especially for a final edition. I am certain they could have squeezed out at least 350hp reliably and focused more on weight reduction where feasible.

      @douglaslindsay2434 5 лет назад +3

      Obviously you have not done your research, ok same EJ25 motor slight power increase to 305 Bhp agreed. Massive changes to shell strengthening, platform dimensions The wheelbase is 25mm longer, the roof is 5mm lower, and the whole car is 15mm longer. The base of the A-pillars has also been moved forward by 200mm The body is 140 per cent stiffer than the previous generation, while there is 16 per cent less body roll thanks largely to spring rates that are 22 per cent stiffer at the front and 6 per cent stiffer at the rear. The steering is still hydraulically rather than electrically power assisted and the rack is 15 per cent quicker due to the ratio being changed from 14.8:1 to 12.7:1.. Oh and was 1.5 seconds quicker than the Golf R around Anglesey racing circuit. Averaging around £2500 - £4000 cheaper than the Golf and with the Fords head gasket issues, In my opinion Subaru seems still to be the better option 👍

    • @scoobystichris790
      @scoobystichris790 6 лет назад +1

      alvarortega2 couldn’t agree with you more. There are three reasons why the uk/Europe are dropping the, STI one; it won’t pass emission tests in the future. Two; not enough people are buying it due to car journalists giving 5 stars to the so called completion. Three; car journalist who keep comparing it to other cars and thinks it’s the same sort of car and not giving it enough credit. As its a focused rally car for the road, not another fast, soft touch material, boring to look at family car. Car journalists seem to have lost there way and aren’t true petrol heads anymore.

  • @clairebannister4749
    @clairebannister4749 6 лет назад

    Subaru are missing a market here in the UK for the basic WRX version - 270bhp, better size wheels suspension and uprated more efficient twin scroll turbo - as for sale in the USA. This is basically 2004 technology- and you'll be lucky to get 20mpg. If you want this experience buy a 2004-2007 version, esp. the WR1 - and you wont lose any investment.

    This guy blows - literally. Same specific output year after year. My 02 Legacy B4 has the same power. Should be able to lift their game with the FB one would think. I hear straight 4's are on the horizon for Subaru so maybe then?

    • @ALMX5DP
      @ALMX5DP 6 лет назад

      Havent heard anything regarding an inline 4, on the contrary the 2.4 turbo fitted to the Ascent previews where Subaru's powertrains are headed. And while I agree to an extent that the EJ is ancient, the improvements to this generation's chassis are great and keep it somewhat relevant in the marketplace today.

    • @phoenixrising7047
      @phoenixrising7047 6 лет назад

      A 2.4L turbo boxer with even less power - great. Next gen WRX will have FB turbo - thats what I'm interested to see. Much sturdier architecture. Apart from whats under the bonnet I'd say they're still killing it in my books.

    • @ALMX5DP
      @ALMX5DP 6 лет назад

      Phoenix Rising, yes less power in a more pedestrian model, just like other versions of the FA, FB and EJs were. I havent heard any designations yet, leading me to believe it wont be an "FB" engine, rather an even newer design.
