It’s absolutely crazy to think that Shohei is already in the GOAT conversation at 28 years old… but I can’t disagree at all. If he has a few more seasons in a row like this it will be absolutely undeniable. Everything that could be put into words about the guy has already been said by everyone a million times, but he is exactly what baseball needed. He’s increasing interest in the game at an unprecedented rate, and is making baseball exciting again.
I know there shall be "Shohei Ohtani Award" or "Unicorn Trophy" in MLB in time... The problem is, there may be no one really deserves for it for the very long time beside Shohei himself.
He should have won MVP last year. If he was in a big market he would have. Nothing against Judge, great player, and yeah the home runs, but come on, Shohei is a lock for MVP with numbers like these. Vlady had huge numbers in 21', but no cares about the Jays...
Funny thing is Yankees fans claim Judge was the reason they even made the playoffs but don't realize how pathetic that is considering the Yankees gigantic payroll.
@@southsider3542 Learn about false equivalence. It just means the Angels team is much worse than the underperforming Yankees, especially the their pitchers.

Let's be serious, Ohtani LOST the AL MVP to a guy that hit a lot of homers last season while he was being a top 5 hitter AND top 5 starting pitcher at the major league level. Now because he's hit a lot of homers and Judge is injured, he's now untouchable this season? Give me a break, he deserved it last season and will probably deserve it every season he stays a top ten in both hitting and pitching. Ohtani got robbed last season because a NY Yankee hit a lot of homers. 🤨😒
Totally agree - last year’s East Coast media bias was grotesque. 🤢🤮 The decision to award Judge the MVP in 2022 will be perceived harshly in the future.

I've moved on to the GOAT of all sports debate. I've freed myself from the annual MVP waste-of-brain-cell-debate. I hope this helps. peace out
Yea it was a dumb thing that hitting one extra homer than 61 automatically cemented Judge for MVP. Or similarly this year people are calling for Luis Arraez automatically MVP if he ends with 400. Hitting 62 instead of 61 or 400 instead of 399 should not be the criteria. That said, Judge did have higher WAR but I think because of a lot people don't understand advanced stats, and that WAR doesn't really work with Ohtani (and thus would spark a lot of debate), the voters instead stick to the breaking Maris record argument but the problem with doing so is now you set a very bad precedent what qualifies a player for MVP (i.e. breaking a long standing record).
Ohtani is likely going to have hit 30 homeruns by the All-Star break. That alone is enough to make someone a MVP candidate, but he will also have thrown 100 innings with an ERA of around 3. It’s just baffling.
Shohei is neither a mystery nor abnomal. It is the result of “the difference in education” that Shohei Ohtani have received since their childhood and school days in Japan. Ohtani is undeniably a great athlete, but if he had been born and raised in the United States, with the same DNA would not have grown into the Ohtani of today. He was born and raised in Japan and received a Japanese baseball education from childhood, which is why he is the player "he is today". Not only his physical abilities and skills, but also his attitude toward baseball and competition, his stoicism in daily life, and his gentle and kind behavior as a person based on sportsmanship are the result of his baseball education in Japan from childhood to high school. He is not a unicorn or monster, but merely one of an honor student of Japanese high school baseball education. Japanese YAKYU bassball was derived uniquely from American-style baseball and took more than 100 years to achieve. The fact is that on this same planet, there is another baseball that exists in a different spirit than the US style. Of course, the roots of baseball are USA, but baseball that was exported to other countries from US and took root there developed in a different way. This would be a fact in this planet. To understand what Shohei Ohtani's motivation is and the basic idea in him, it is good to look at his goal sheet, which is very famous in Japan. It is an 81-square goal matrix sheet (mandala sheet) that he created as part of his school education when he was a 16-year-old high school freshman. You can see what he was aiming for at the age of 16, learning baseball, his future goals, his daily life goals, and what he chose as the keywords to achieve his ultimate goal. Of course, this is a story from his childhood when he was only 16 years old, so it is different from what he is doing now, but it clearly shows what he was aiming for, what he practiced, what motivated him, what he wanted to do, and what was related to the hidden part of his life. I recommend you to see it once. Many people who have seen it will probably be surprised at what they find out. It is a glimpse of who he is and where he came from. And it is clear that this has led him to where he is today as a major leaguer. He has worked hard and faithfully implemented the scenario he devised in his mind 12 years ago. And you can get a taste from this sheet of the real power of Japanese baseball education that allowed this to be created by a high school rookie. He didn't just happen to achieve his current power in the majors, but that it was a planned action. He is not playing baseball for money. He just wants to be the best in baseball one day and master the way of baseball (YAKYUDO) in his own way. I feel the same spirit as a licensed swordsman in Bushido Japan.
'Remarkable'? Why don't you call it as it is? Historic. They probably wore that word out last year when they kept talking about Judge's 'historic' season ever since he was at 30 HR, a feat that Ohtani had done in 21 before the ASB while also being his team's top staring pitcher. You don't need to be biased when choosing true mvp. Those idiots who still believe Aaron are better need to be more objective. Please give Sho the MVP right now
Judge is a better hitter, but the margin he is better at doesn't equal to a top 5 pitcher. While I don't mind Judge winning MVP last year, to think that he is better than Ohtani because he won the award is what makes me think that people are still under appreciating what Ohtani is doing. He may not win MVP every year, just like even MJ or Lebron cant win MVP every year, but Ohtani is by far the best player in our generation and it is not even close, he may very well be the best player of all time when he finishes.
Acuña isn't the right shade for baseball fans. Just like Bonds before him, a majority of baseball fans (who are majority white) do not want to see a darker skinned man succeed in a "white man's" game. Despite Latinos and blacks absolute dominating the game for 30 years
