The glove on Steve's right hand is due to an issue from playing for so many years. It had worn down to bone on bone and was very painful. In 2016 he is recovery from surgery and has a mobile "cast" that still allows him to play and looks a lot like what he is wearing now. But, he admitted in an interview that he had to change his picking technique due to the limitations of the cast. Considering all the work he has put in down through the years, this doesn't surprise me. One of the best and most prolific artists of our time.
I thought like that too 15 years ago. Today I grown out of Steve Morse Music, there so many musicians that attract my taste much more than Steve. Chris Thile, Bill Frisell, Josh Smith, Bireli Lagrene, etc

Steve is in his 60s and injuries mount up after shredding for over 50 years. He broke his left arm (affected the way he plays) and has a repetitive injury to his right wrist. Resulting in the loss of most of the cartilage in that wrist. He has had to change the way he plays and you can see, at this point, that he is learning how to play with a stiff wrist, as opposed to the anchored, wrist "rolling" action which gave him his blinding technical speed in his prime. Check out "Steve Morse Band - Live, 1990 Full Concert", or if you like Purple, "Deep Purple Live in Poland, 1996". To see vintage Morse, check out a 3 part series called "Odd Steve Morse Stuff", which goes way back to the early 80s with the Dregs. I saw the Dregs several times in the late 70s/early 80s era and it changed my taste in music. Steve is one of only 3 guitarists to be named "Overall Guitarist of The Year" 5 years in a row - retiring him from the competition and putting him into the Gallery of Greats. ellokittymew really interesting thank you.... you have good taste of music. Morse, Howe and Johnson, are art of my all time favorite. I found an old cd few days ago with a cover of « the clap » played by Steve Morse... you should enjoy ;)

Steve is the ultimate guitar player in that he plays all styles with equal virtuosity and is so musical!! Dave is an amazing bass player too and all the playing they have done together really shows here!!
Steve Morse is heads and shoulders above virtually anyone else in total musicality...just unreal what a talent he is. Dave is incredible as well. I've been following SMB and the Dixie Dregs since the early 80's. I never tire of it.
So true I hear so many instrumental guitarist these days and none of them hold a candle to Steve Morse in terms of tone or harmonic understanding. Plus with an instrumental group like the dregs you had total musical integration violin keys. Bass. an awesome drummer and of course Steves virtuosic guitar playing. Yes Dave LaRue is awesome. You got to be good to hang with Morse. Once again a demonstration of tone and harmonic understanding So lacking in instrumental guitar music today.
OMG this video is just incredible to anyone who knows anything about music I'm just a lowly singer but I have been trained in classical piano and classical vocals and have taught myself some guitar this is awesome though and I feel ashamed because I never heard of David LaRue

Steve Morse studied in music school, which made his chord compositions and cadences sophisticated, complex. In some compositions there is a clear influence of Baroque music, especially by J. S. Bach. Steve's a master.

I think if he would have gave himself an image people think of, he would have been more noticed. He is known for playing the bongo bass. He's amazing !
Steve Morse, my all time fave guitarist for about 30 years now. it is heartbreaking to see him struggle with his right hand technique now but regardless he is still Steve fucking Morse! so much amazing music from one person.

Not at all. Charly Hayden and Pat Metheny or Bill Frisell and Thomas Morgan. Dave LaRue itself is great musician.
