Truth. I love Dreamcatcher and Kard - two groups that are very popular internationallly but get not much support in Korea. Davichi is one of the most popular groups in Korea, but get ignored internationally. While sales are important for a group success, support the music and groups that you love - forget the charts and award shows

They sold 6 million copies of their debut album - then went public to reveal they were broke because they received so little money from their label. N'Sync and Backstreet Boys had a ton of money stolen by their manager. There was even a huge scandal in the 1950s - called Payola - where record companies had to pay radio stations to play their hits - it was so bad that Congress investigated it. Big Bang publicly went on MAMA awards and G.D. dissed them on the air for being so shady.

It was possible to get on chart just by buying a lot from single shop, actual sales numbers weren't important. And if it was quiet week it wasn't even expensive. And with phone votes just a couple of people were needed to bump someone on top...
When EXO and BigBang stopped attending award shows I stopped watching and voting for those shows too. Loved it when GD actually dissed MAMA during his performance on the show. Serves them right! I'll just buy albums, stream my idols music and love them without the pressure of awards coz we fans knows who's got good music and talent. 💗

Fans of particular groups or artists playing their favorite artists videos on a loop all day every day using 100 different accounts and devices and shaming adherents into "supporting" their favourite group through coordinated efforts to inflate streaming numbers and RUclips views. Manufactured popularity.
Winner kept on appearing on the unanswered questions documentary, they received the biggest damage by sajegi. Winner members work so hard writing and composing their songs, imagine how pissed they must have been. People used to say everytime they made a come back they are followed by machines. Looking at the documentaries, that turned out to be true, and they’re not even a group that comes back often thanks to yg. Fiance, millions, everyday, ah yeah were all victims. Makes me angry to see the fulfillment of seeing their hard work being taken away, especially as you know winners leader seungyoon is the type to lock himself away in the studio and constantly make songs And twice were robbed a whole 3 times too looking at the documentaries which has by the way become a real hot issue in korea. Many artists have shared thoughts of the program on their socials like IU and Sunmi.
I cried when I found out x1 disband. I new most of these stuff were 75% fake! This happens a lot! It’s so sad that they work so hard and they don’t make it. I’m still crying!

Also MELON made 2 "I'm OK" songs 1 is fake and the other 1 is the original one. The fandom was listening to the fake one for many days until an ikonic pointed there's another same one which is the legit one.
EXID went from not being on the charts to being number 1 though not only going viral but also peoples love their own hard work and commitment to not giving up even when things look dark

Interesting video! I'm not surprised and honestly cannot blame companies for using these methods to get their artists recognition, considering how cutthroat the industry is. I guess it can also be seen as a different kind of investment, creating fake hype or spending a lot of money on marketing.. In the end I agree with what you and music insiders also agree on, which is that listeners should diversify what they listen to. It's always a shame if good artists cannot break through due to weak marketing, their talents should not be wasted.
This is the same as the Payola scandal of the 1950s , where radio stations were paid by record labels to play the latest Eddie Cochran single over Little Richard, for example.
I know how to deal with this problem. Close all the charts! That's it! Let people use theire own musical taste to choose music not popularity criteria .

If the the charts are all based on social media views then Maybe the charts should ONLY be based on actual music song sales (downloads, maybe even concert tickets if they need more data). You can't fake sales without spending money, which would defeat the entire manipulation purpose.

Governments could also invest more on cyber prosecution and the ring leaders (the hardest). But still, there's been cases where hackers infect the code of serious companies and apps and inject spyware... so it's something like an arms race. Well in the end it's "easy money". Users should be more educated about technology, information safety and good habits. Governments (people on leadership positions) need to educate themselves about how the Net's technology affects their economies and public safety (banks, utilities companies, people's private information leaks) and well... what can we ask for to the companies...

Wow! 9:40 this happened to ikonics too there was this one suspicious artist who played in ikonics on MELON accounts even they never played it. This happened lasr year in January. Also MELON made 2 "I'm OK" songs 1 is fake and the other 1 is the original one. The fandom was listening to the fake one for many days until an ikonic pointed there's another same one which is the legit one.

Very good video. This is not just in K-Pop. This is happening all over the whole world. Jon Sine has a video on RUclips about the same thing happening in Germany. Chart manipulation has been happening way before the internet. Basically it has always been in the music industry and it will sadly never go away.
That is why SM doesn't make most of there idols go to award shows especially exo and YG doesn't make blackpink go to award shows too

Interesting video! I'm not surprised and honestly cannot blame companies for using these methods to get their artists recognition, considering how cutthroat the industry is. I guess it can also be seen as a different kind of investment, creating fake hype or spending a lot of money on marketing.. In the end I agree with what you and music insiders also agree on, which is that listeners should diversify what they listen to. It's always a shame if good artists cannot break through due to weak marketing, their talents should not be wasted.

If the the charts are all based on social media views then Maybe the charts should ONLY be based on actual music song sales (downloads, maybe even concert tickets if they need more data). You can't fake sales without spending money, which would defeat the entire manipulation purpose.

Users should be more educated about technology, information safety and good habits. Charts are manipulated everywhere, by buying twenty copies of your own album to buying views, likes and comments, and also by the people who think it's nice to spam other groups with comments [happened to BTS - Stay Gold (the amount of comments was insane) and Blackpink - How you like that]. People should stop trying to put others down and stop buying their way to the top
