  • "The Day It Fell Apart" is a really fun song by Leslie Fish from a ways back that I've enjoyed for a long time. The song was chosen by the Patreons for last month's song and due to delays got pushed back. But here it is now! I hope you enjoy!
    Lyrics:
Just a little general hospital, in a little factory town.
The board put me in charge for mainly keeping prices down.
    I hadn't touched a patient since 1982,
But the day of the explosion I remembered what to do.
At eleven in the morning, we all heard the factory blow.
The blast took out the windows, and the shrapnel fell like snow.
We could get no help from out of town for half a day or more.
We had near a thousand casualties and beds for ninety-four.
And can you keep your head, your backbone, or your heart?
We all found out the answer on the day it fell apart.
It was worse than combat medicine; supplies were draining fast.
Bandages ran out and antiseptics wouldn't last.
I took all the able-bodied I could catch inside the door
And made them help the doctors to go scrounge supplies and more.
I invented laws to tell them saying in such emergency
Forget your usual job and boss, your orders come from me.
I sent the cops to commandeer anything in reach:
Food or disinfectant cloth or alcohol or bleach.
And can you keep your head, your backbone, or your heart?
We all found out the answer on the day it fell apart.
The janitor ran cleanup squad, the cook maintained supplies,
The garbageman removed the ones who died before our eyes.
The clerks burned all our papers to boil water on the fire
For sterilizing instruments, as the body count went higher.
A local healthfoods herbalist brought everything he had.
The painkillers were useful, and the poultices weren't bad.
A smack and cocaine pusher handed us his whole supply.
The quality was lousy, but a few more didn't die.
And can you keep your head, your backbone, or your heart?
We all found out the answer on the day it fell apart.
We did triage in the parking lot, ranked minor, major, grave.
A sad-eyed fireman gave the stroke to those we couldn't save.
Then sometime in the chaos, a director wandered in
To tell us we were breaking rules, what trouble we'd be in.
But if we'd swear the factory was not the fire's cause,
And the harm was accidental, he'd forget the broken laws.
The staff sneaked up and grabbed him, and tied him to a door.
He gave them blood transfusions 'till he hadn't any more.
And can you keep your head, your backbone, or your heart?
We all found out the answer on the day it fell apart.
When that day was over, and we'd saved all that we could,
We saw that law and politics would hang us where we stood.
We'd saved eight hundred lives but shattered all authority.
I told them, "People, save yourselves, put all the blame on me."
I took my books and instruments, and a few supplies beside,
Packed my car and ran away to open countryside.
So now I live an outlaw, condemned by righteous men,
But for all the lives I saved that day...
    I'd do it all again.
And can you keep your head, your backbone, or your heart?
We all found out the answer on the day it fell apart.
Can you keep your head, your backbone, or your heart?
You'll all found out the answer on the day it falls apart.

Sorry all for the delays, this was supposed to be last month's song, but between burnout and getting sick, I missed my intended release date. This song was chosen by the Patreons for last month's song and the Patreons will be choosing *next* month's song as well! This song has been a lot of fun to record and make (delay's asides), and is the first song posted with a new guitar (that I finally got) Hopefully the guitar sounds a bit better than in earlier songs. For those of you who've been considering Patreon, or are otherwise interested, This song released just over a month ago as an early audio release for Patreons only. There will be another early Patreon release for this month as well, so feel free to support me on Patreon!

You should be more sory about what you did to the song. Guitar is fine btw and your voice to but the song tells a story ffs just because you got a voice and a guitar doesnt mean you ahve to earn money while ruining this work.
Dont just publish any shit to please people this is not even close to what it should be.
You wait with the song to keep up with the guitar, no matter how I look at this it's not good.
If this is what you do for work you should reconsider your decision.
Do this for a hobby, then its fine but it needs improvement in many ways.

The way the song ends reminds me of a time when my father and his good friend volunteered in search of a rescue.
Both of them were expert mountaneers, and one day, there was a case that a man had injured himself on a ledge about 50 ft up a cliff.
Now the regulations mandate that rescue crew must go in from above the rescuee, but that rock face went up another 1000 feet and they qould have never made it to him.
They ignored regulation and orders from the organizer and quickly scaled the face up to him and lowerd them down. And for that the were promptly dismissed.
Two highly competent men lost for the sake of beuracracy.

    • @leafboy3967
      @leafboy3967 9 месяцев назад +37

@river6634 Sure, but that regulation makes a timely rescue in certain circumstances completely impossible.
Moreover, the over 2000 feet of vertical that would have been scaled in the dark would have posed far more risk to all involved.
These regulations were made by bureaucrats who sit at desks, not the expert mountaneers that they mandated were fired.

Thank you for sharing this song. It has long been one of my favorites. I wonder...Am I the only one seeing this as a major block buster of a movie? I vaguely remember a 'made for tv' (I think) either during the end or after the end of the Viet Nam war. A couple of righteous doctors entered a VA hospital set in a major city near D.C. And they pretty much cleaned house. A similar theme to this song, but this one has so much more action and drama. Still. I don't watch hollywood any longer. Too repetitive, boring, and ... did I say repetitive? snicker. But, with the right Producer/Director, I'd pay to see it.Actually, Leslie Fish is such a wonderful story teller, I'd watch any movie based on her music.

Uh, which fire is the song referring to? From my research, all the fires I found in the second half of the 20th century up to 1982 were either arson or had casualties that weren't nearly large enough.
It isn't about generic workers rights violations of the late 19th and early 20th centuries either, since the song specifically mentions 1982, which is when the song was made.
