Love this series. And this story never gets old. Imagine if we never got to witness the Sedins playing together as a tandem. This whole thing that Burke pulled off is magic.
I love how you can see the other twin within the shot of their individual player cards. Definitely cannot imagine a world where the twins didn’t play together, not even just in Vancouver, but in any team. Burke’s maneouvers on this draft should be at the level of common knowledge in any sports history I’d say
Was hardly the drafting of the sedins that caused mediocrity in Vancouver. They played above their contracts during the entire time since the salary cap was imposed. Nobody they could have drafted instead that would have remotely been even anywhere near as good

I met Brian Burke early on when he joined the canucks. I didn't know who he was, saw the logo on his shirt and asked him about Larionov and Krutov. Gave me a 2 minute response and was very polite and engaging. He is a solid dude.
Love how at 2:22 you can see the BROS band warming up, and then their song starts playing a bit later. Little details like this make an already excellent video even better!
Not only are these incredible stories and well animated, but I’ve also discovered some great new bands from the songs you guys put in. More of these please.
I never thought about the logistics of how the same team was able to draft both identical twins. The Morris twins in basketball were also drafted one pick apart, but by different teams, and weren't on the same team until a trade 2 years later.
I honestly don’t get critics like you. Burke just said this was the worst draft heading into it so people wanted to move picks which made it easier. In today’s game draft picks are essential to build the core of the team. Every GM has a hit an miss I’ll admit he’s not the best at signing players that handcuffed us and his trades are meh but at the time we hired benning we had nobody in our farm system to build a core around and benning was known for his scouting now we have players like petey, Hughes, podkolzin, I think juolevi could be a solid player he’s had injury issues and a solid goaltender and a future goaltender compared to what we had back then to what we have now benning deserves some credit for his draft picks. Virtanen now didn’t pan out but at the time of the drafted all the fans wanted a home grown kid and that was virtanen now that he didn’t pan out pitchforks are out for benning to be fired I’m tired of fans jumping off right away when something doesn’t pan out
@@pravleenminhas3594 100%. Most "Fans" don't realize that their constant braying about "win now" with the Sedins saddled us with the eriksson contract. We should have been rebuilding. They also soured our relationship with Linden, because that's what he wanted but got shouted down by management that were under pressure from fans.
@@Electricalphil exactly the the fans and ownership group are the worst because we can never go through a solid rebuild and hockey is the toughest to rebuild a team and you don’t know how player will do when drafting a kid that is 18 and assessing his ability to play in the future by looking at his skill set now. Look at Edmonton they have been going through a rebuild and they were gifted multiple #1 overall picks and only a couple of those panned out in our franchise history we didn’t have a single #1 overall yet I believe our future is brighter than Edmonton in the next couple of years. If the Canucks ever draft a kid and just one person doesn’t work out some canucks fan throw a fit like “we should have never drafted this guy what were they thinking”. We treated players like luongo, naslund, ohlund, Kesler like crap in their later years but whenever they make a guest appearance fans go nuts and that’s what pisses me off about “these fans”
@@Electricalphil Give me a break bud. Yes blame the fans, because they made the final decision on who the Canucks signed contracts with. He should've came out and admitted when needed retooling. Would've been hard to swallow, but if he was a good GM he wouldn't pander to the fans and do his job. It's not just Loui's contract it's also Myers, Roussel, Beagle, and Holtby & Virtanen instead Toffoli were all recent bad signing/decisions, it's not just one that's handcuffed us. He's a good scout, no doubt but that does not make him a good GM. He needs to be good at all aspects of the job not just one
@@jejsemin33 I believe virtanen was coming off a good year that year and virtanen is younger where Toffolli is older and didn’t know how much of an impact he would make. The assumption was that virtanen turned it around and toffoli was in the later years of his career obviously hindsight is 20/20 but do you honestly think benning would come out and say we need a rebuild he would’ve been fired had he said that because the owner is a tool and he’s stubborn I’m certain that he was in benning’s ear to sign these players so they could still compete clearly that’s not the case. Of course a GM is supposed to be good at all facets of the position but look at what benning started with and look at what we have now. We have a solid group that we can build around

As a very young, ignorant child, I thought the Sedin's were just allowed to be drafted together because they were brothers.
Me too lol
i just laughed so hard at this - league should consider it
i definitely thought that twins at least were allowed to do this lol because one team in the league i grew up watching had twins two different times
Little League Brother rule!
I thought something similar as well, that they are inseparable and won't play on different teams 😂
"I'm running out of questions here kid" 🤣🤣🤣

Apparently not, if his decision resulted in decades of toiling in mediocrity for his own team.
