So Milbury antagonizes an 18 YO kid, and then baits him with a wickedly innapropriate question for a professional interview, Ryan answers with creativity and then Milbury tells him to kick rocks? Like, what is your goal? What is your job? If you don’t want to draft him, then don’t draft him. Mike thought he was playing 4D chess with the “guess what my motives are” type of BS question. What a man-child. Ryan should have brought up the shoe incident.
In my opinion Terry Ryan may be the first Montreal Canadien draft pick to suffer their mishandling of prospects and so much so it robbed him of any chance of having an NHL career. There was a time there was no better organization in the NHL than the Montreal Canadiens and one of the things that made them the best was how they developed young players. They were sent to a minor league team which was run by trusted coaches, many former players and top organizational people. They learned the winning ways of the big club, learned the system they would be expected to play with Montreal and most of all, their confidence was supported and built upon. When they won the cup in '86 they had young players like Claude Lemieux, Stephane Richer and Chris Chelios and those players were learning from masters like Gainey and Robinson. In fact, Chris Chelios' played his first NHL game (and many more after) with Larry Robinson as his defense partner. THAT is how to run a club! Terry Ryan was never given half a chance to show what he was capable of doing in the NHL. He played 4 games his first year, 3 the next and then the team gave up on him and he only played one more NHL game. But the problem is that he wasn't playing with their top players, he wasn't playing on the power play, he wasn't given any chance at all to show whether he could contribute anything. He spent those 8 games on the 4th line, playing just a few minutes a night on a lousy team with lousy players. They couldn't have done worse to ruin the man's confidence had they been trying to do just that. And here we are more than 25 years later and they are still making the same mistakes now that they were then. Ryan Poehling is the latest example of someone who is going through this. It's too bad because I believe 100% that Ryan could have easily been a 20-25 goal guy, steady and physical. But nope...such a waste. Sorry Terry, you deserved better!
Best hour of your life Tr jr. I was a kid and watched that series and still remember when Henderson jumped on the ice after calling Peter Mahovolich off the ice and Foster Hewitts infamous quote. "Henderson, Henderson has scored for Canada"
Started playing hockey again last year and recently been binge watching SC. Biz is the man also love the group dynamic w everyone involved. You guys need to drop some jerseys or cheaper practice jerseys at least!!!
This is an awesome story! Let this be a lesson to all you cake-eaters out there: some people may be douchebags, but there could be another awesome experience waiting just next door!
Terry Ryan sadly was a NHL bust. I used to play hockey league simulator with online friends around this time. In this draft I actually took 6'6" Teemu Riihijarvi who was taken 12th overall by the Sharks. He never even left Finland so he was a real life bust. In my sim league, he was awesome!
It's funny how Terry absolutely answered everything perfectly and Milbury didn't get that that's what he was looking for... If you throw shittest at people and they ace it, you can't go crazy on them that's just pure failure... Cheers y'all!
Hi Meet Phil Esposito in Nutrisystem in Pleasantville New York. My wife was running the operation I came in to pick her up to go to lunch and I said do you know who that is and she knew but didn’t understand who he really was. I went over to say hello to him and he stood up. Perfect gentleman nicest guy you want to meet the biggest pair of hands you ever saw a human being. He actually would prefer to talk hockey but he had some sponsorship deal. He was meeting other people there 100% greatest guy in the game so cordial so friendly so articulate.
You gotta tell Terry- it was Paul McCartney listening to pet sounds that inspired Sgt pepper not the other way around. Pet sounds came out like a year earlier
Remember Milbury climbing into the stands and beating a fan over the head with the guy's own shoe hahah. Imagine that happening today? He'd be charged with assault
Terry is one of the best story tellers ever. I'll bet he's the same in person. Thank you Bizzo.
He's is, he owns a bar back home if you can get a story out of him it's always gold
This is absolute gold
Thanks Kenny Banya.

The proof is in the pudding with Milbury's (non) success as a GM. What a clown.
That’s one of the best stories I’ve ever heard, just hilarious that something like that actually happened!
Always hated Milbury.
He’s not a likable character. Power tripped narcissist
IMO this clip is so underrated, truly a gem. 10/10 enjoyed every second of it
Millberry is arguably one of the most incompetent general managers that has ever been in the NHL
Milbury is to the NHL as Matt Millen is to the NFL
Same initials too, weird...
I would say it’s a toss up between him and Pierre Dorian
But he was right about Terry unfortunately
peter chiarelli says hi
Hahaha Terry Ryan is a beauty, all time chiclets guest for sure.
Whatever Milbury expected to get out of that question to Terry Ryan boggles the mind.
Milbury wanted to hear what a good boy Terry would be and how he would be home for curfew. Yeah good luck pal
Millbury asked those questions so everyone in the room would know Mike Millbury Is Here. he's an insecure ass.
I'd say " Mike, why does your daughter need to be home so early?"
That would have been good.
Oooooo
Jonathan Garmuth this is an under-rated comment.
That would have been money
Jonathan Garmuth but he has the curfew not her
I can't get enough Terry Ryan stories. The old man is great too!
Not a bad story, i've heard some great ones on spittin
This is the kind of hockey insight I love to hear. Great interview SC
"Been called worse, boys!"

Wouldn't be surprised that poehling turns into a good player for the flyers.
You should publish this book
That was one of the better hockey rants I’ve heard in a while, well done.
This is the future, you we're exactly right and they've finally fixed it.
@@jimgray3346 Sorry bro...I'm old...that's my excuse. lol
When the days get long, I go to this video...fucking hilarious and a great story...what beauty of a story.
If you look up the definition of a beauty in the dictionary, it says Terry Ryan.

Absolutely... legend
2:35 legit spit my drink all over myself laughing
Please more of Terry. Dude is a beauty

Terry Ryan has to come back. What a great interview.
A lot nicer hearing an interview with JR by himself and leaving SR out of it. Although SR was a beauty it nice to actually hear Terry speak.
jr, sr, who are these people

One of the best clips ever on this great channel
I love this guy. His story on playing one game in the ECHL has more goosebumps than a Rocky film.
TR is a great chiclets regular. Awesome at telling stories
The Espo part is true gold. The Milbury part well what did ya expect.
Hey Biz, Does Terry still have any of his Fredericton Canadiens jerseys? He was a huge fan favourite during his time here
This is exactly how I’d picture Milbury as a GM. I can totally see him picking fights with 18 year old kids.
he picked fights with kids too. Look it up.
You'd never know it from the numbers, but Terry Ryan probably had one of the greatest careers ever in hockey.
Terry Ryan was a hockey protegy in his younger days. He would score at will.
What are you talking about ? He played 8 games in his career.
@@bigbadbruins1he said hockey not nhl
I don’t care if he meant PEE WEE HOCKEY. HE SUCKED.
