wonderful down the line forehand from Lendl at 4:55 and equally brilliant the following backhand return, just brilliant! Nobody could run down a ball like that except Lendl
For me Edberg was all grace. The best backhand in the game till date and the best volleyer of the game.... He might have a weak forehand but he still won 4 grand slams on grass and 6 overall and he was a perfect grasscourt player... He deserved to be No.1.... Love you Edberg now and forever
IDK man I think Edberg hit his volley harder than Mac but Mac is still a better volleyer. Love watching all of them and the Mac-Edberg battles were epic.
The Australian Indoor had a top class field. I lived in Sydney and looking back, I should have purchased tickets instead of being content to watch it on TV. Luckily I went the following year in 1991 and saw Goran play Andre, followed by Pete' Vs David Wheaton. But Lendl Vs Edberg...very sorry I wasn't there in person!!
4:02 sometimes the commentators are so fucking weird. For sure they're right about Lendl, but how does Edberg "hit the ball harder than just about anybody else in the world"? Great and powerful backhand, but his serve and forehand were certainly not fast (not to take anything away from the effectiveness of his kick serve though).
I come from the year 2050, we are looking for a rogue AI robot that escaped our time, its name was Ivan. Our cameras last show him practicing tennis in a lab... oh wait, we see him now, never mind!
@@fundhund62 Except, he never faced Federer, Nadal or Djokovic.. Lendl place in the “GOAT” debate is questionable. But one thing that isn’t debatable, is his dominance at the US Open. For 11 years, if Lendl didn’t win the title himself, the eventual champion had to beat him, at some point.
Wow. Edberg complaining about a line call. The ball at 3:07, seen at slow motion clearly bounces in front of the baseline, or at least on it. But Edberg insists on complaining about the linesman, or lines lady in this case. Edberg was wrong and acting a little like a cry baby. Even the most gentlemanly and polite players sometimes have a moment to regret. In spite of that little detail, both Lendl and Edberg are a joy to watch play.

Beautiful tennis!
The interesting thing is that Edberg is a touch player but he has the game to trouble and beat Ivan. It's a great matchup!!
Very true Alan!
when Mac tried to be nice talked like the angry Edberg

Lendl best ever
I still prefer Lendl over Federer, Nadal and Djokovic, and Sampras, and all the others...just me I guess
@@tennisking3300 Lendl Forever...nobody like him
Not best ever, top 10, yes
He had much tougher opponents than Federer, Nadal and Djokovic have.
