Mr. Snyder, from near my hometown of Harrisburg, PA. You wouldnt know it from this, but Jay was a VERY well respected umpire lol. He had a great career. Kudos Mr. Snyder, you umpired some of the biggest matches of my childhood.

I saw them play each other in an exhibition in San Diego in the early 80s…They were both funny and it was a great match.

Good stuff. Its clear though that despite the wooden rackets -- which were all about control and finesse -- they're both still playing the power game of modern tennis. Something the old superstars like Borg just couldn't adapt to.

Van patten won Tokyo beating a few of the top ranked guys around that time . Super talented guy. McEnroe , well we all know .

Connors was really, really good at the net but never got much credit for that.

Lendl owned him. 17 matches in a row at one point. The only time Jimmy had any success against Lendl was when he first came on tour as a teenager.

Connors relied too much on a flat forehand and didn’t get the depth in court. Compare his shots of depth to today’s guys who hit the baseline time and time again because they’ve using more top spin.

I always thought those Lendl adidas shirts with the face were interesting and I always wished I had them. One year the face looked to be snoozing. Another year it had different colors and looked to be wide awake.

Leider werden seine Erfolge immer mit Steffi Graf verglichen , doch das ist völliger Unfug. Steffi Graf war um Klassen besser und erfolgreicher, Becker hätte in der heutigen Zeit keinen einzigen Titel gewonnen,

McEnroe was a repugnant bully whose truly terrible behavior was tolerated for far too long. The American sport media always made excuses for him (Connors as well) because American 'champions' made for good ratings and revenue. That said, by this point in their careers McEnroe was overmatched against Lendl. Cheers!

I would say that Lendl had a more successful career overall than Edberg. Lendl won 8 Grand Slams to Edberg's 6. Lendl made it to 19 Grand Slam finals which I'm pretty sure is far more than Edberg. And Lendl spent much more time as the #1 ranked player in the world.

Was the tv that fuzzy back when we watched these matches? This is still a lot of fun to rewatch.
