  • Come along with Eric O. at the SMA shop as he goes through the procedure of changing a rear hub assembly / wheel bearing on a 2005 Buick Lacrosse. This vehicle has an ABS speed sensor built into the hub but some however do not. This is a pretty standard procedure for many makes and models of GM vehicles.

Mr. O your videos have personally saved me over $100 when I watched how to replace the ignition switch on a Chevy Blazer.
I don't know what I like more, your liberal use of brake clean, or the sound effect when you show us the can.
Keep the great videos coming. I thoroughly enjoy each and every one.

Just had to replace an 09 acadia's rear wheel bearing a couple days ago. No shop or fancy tools, just an air uga duga and ping pinger. The instructions on my 2011 SRX said to remove the ABS sensor too, but just using my own sense and checking with some measurement I've confirmed that you don't need to at least on that one, it sits right behind the reluctance ring, and won't interfere or be harmed by a wheel hub assembly replacement.

It not really the upper intake manifold that leaks coolant. It's the lower intake manifold gaskets which used a nylon gasket carrier (which is dissolved by Dexcool) that causes the leak. Replace with either the Delco or Fel-Pro lower intake manifold gaskets which have an aluminum carrier design and those fix this problem. The plastic upper intake manifold of the original Series II design had problems with the EGR passage melting. That caused a leak as well. ATP makes a good replacement plastic upper intake manifold.

Fun fact about the Buick Lacrosse. Here in Canada, they had to call it the Buick Allure....because LACROSSE in French translates
to" " self gratification" So GM produced two sets of literature and all those different emblems to keep from offending our French brothers.
Even funnier though was that later post 2009 they sell the LACROSSE in Canada. Go figure.

Also, rust and corrosion are interchangeable. Rust just refers to iron oxide, which has the brown/copper color we all know and love. Other metals like Zinc and aluminum corrode with a whitish buildup. All oxidization causes an expansion effect which locks shit together, so it all sucks. Iron metals are porous enough though that the rust can just go through the whole piece over time. Aluminum and zinc corrode at a basically negligible rate after they get their initial coat of patina.

I like the adjustable-head flashlight. that, with a Velcro strap and you can now solve many of the perpetual "perfect lighting" issue when fixing cars

Hey dude, you should do a traveling road show like This Old House does. You could start by coming to Massachusetts and replacing the rear wheel bearings in my Silverado. I can't pay you much but there's a good ice cream place near me. You can have two scoops if you do both sides.

I HAD to look it up...
The definition of cattywampus, often spelled catawampus, is not lined up or not arranged correctly, or diagonally. An example of something cattywampus are the positions of the items on the top of a coffee table after a two year old has been playing with them and moving them around.

Is it possible to dismantle the hub assembly and check what bearing is in there and then with the old bearing go to specialized bearing shop and buy such bearing and then install the new bearing only?

At 9:30 you put Loctite on the TORX bolts. Why not anti-seize instead?

You do a wonderful job on your video and you have a good personality for it. When reinstalling the wheel bearing hub assembly would you see anything wrong with using high temp wheel bearing grease instead of Fluid film on the wheel bearing bracket? This would keep it from corroding and make it easy to remove the wheel bearing assembly in the future if needed. Thanks.
