  • Come along with Eric O. at the SMA shop as he goes through the procedure of changing a front hub assembly on a 2005 Buick Lacrosse. This vehicle has an ABS speed sensor built into the hub but some however do not. This is a pretty standard procedure for many makes and models of GM vehicles.

i have watched a lot of videos on youtube about break jobs and wheel hub jobs Eric. You are the first I’ve heard say something about properly torquing down the wheel because it could cause a warped rotor and brake pulsation.
Given that i have had that problem with my brakes twice, now I finally understand why! I never torque down the wheel evenly! I would have replaced the brakes and rotors again and have not been any wiser!!
I learn something new with every video Eric! You’re the best You tube mechanic in my opinion!! Keep up the great work!

Erick O, I know that butt pucker feeling all to well, First time I took My 1973 Chevy Nova SS with an LT1 modified V8 with 775 HP to have it's brakes done by someone else besides me for the first time and they did not pump up the brakes and set them. I went to pick it up and had no brakes or peddle and had to use the E-brake , gave the shop and the guy that worked on it an Ear full and the smart ass mechanic a fist in the mouth. People lesson to Eric , Ivan and Keith they are the best on the internet, Unlike some so call professional mechanics, Eric , Ivan and Keith know what they are talking about. PS: love the Vid's Eric have been watching you for about 3 years now and love everything you do, Keep up the good work Brother, From a former NHRA and AHRA winter nationals racer and mechanic, My best time down the 1/4 mile track was a 8.200 at 179 MPH here in Tucson, Az. PSS : NO rust here just light corrosion lol :)

I did the same R&R on a friends slightly older Lacrosse about 2 years ago. No drama on getting the bearing out, which is good because all I have was a cold chisel and a ball peen hammer. The plastic coating on the part of the bearing where it mated with the knuckle did its job !

I know this is a very late comment in the game here, but I made a wicked nice caliper hanger out of a long, heavy duty pegboard hanger. I put it in a vice, snapped off the fingers in the back (the ones that go into the actual pegboard), and bent the rod. Been using it for years.

Slide hammers are nice if you don't have an air hammer. You can get the loaner ones for free at auto zone. Usually the weight from the hammer isn't enough, so I'll put an old brake rotor behind the hammer and use that as some extra oomph.

I got distracted just after finishing a brake job on my own car. Came back later for a test drive, and I'm in the habit of not stepping on the brake to start the car, and all of that. Well the first time I had to step on the brake was leaving my driveway which is a nice slope down to a road with 40 mph traffic (really 50 to 60 usually), a lot of it being tractor trailers, and just plain tractors (farm type). I think I made the stop just in time but that was scary enough to never forget to check the brakes after working on them.

Used a local shop once that was recommended to me to change out the wheel bearing on a 2500 GMC pickup. Shxthead cranked on the lug nuts I couldn't get them loose and took it to Discount Tire and they had to get a huge breaker bar out. They were ticked off too. Why do people crank stuff that tight. Jeez. Good video.

When it comes to axle nuts the only torque spec required is the German spec gutentight or a couple zippy zaps with the impact and quarter turn or so with the breaker bar if you're lazy. 😂
Good air tools make this job a breeze.
Great video as always Eric. Just make sure you don't burn out doing so many vids. I'd rather continue to enjoy content for years to come rather than you get burnt out doing and take the hump with it altogether.

Torque Sticks ...I threw mine in the garbage. I was using them for years till a customer with a fancy Cadillac called 2 days after working on her car saying I did not put all the lug nuts on. I told her to stay where she was and went to look. All the lug nuts were loose. I have a very expensive Snap-On impact and a Quincy compressor. I am also 100% sure I tightened them with the torque stick. I have never used them since and threw them out.

Nice video, as usual. I've had trouble for years getting the hubs off, especially on some trucks (I'm in Michigan). I've had scary good luck using the LTI Tools 830A Hub Shocker.

I agree with the even torque is better than factory spec torque. I've noticed no one has used a torque wrench at any place I've gotten new tires and I've never had an issue with warped rotors.
