I like the ridiculous number of 3.5 inch drive bays. That is literally the thing that brought me to Cool Master in the first place. There are other cases for people that need front radiators. We data hoarders need our 3.5" inch drives.
Tyler Watkins ikr. I am to poor to afford a NAS so I just keep all storage stuff in my PC. I have 7 Hard drives totalling 20TB and 2 SSDs Totalling ~1.4 TB.
They just put a new color and tempered glass panels, nothing new lol. The cooling on the side is the example that they didn't bother too much, on the original cosmos II there are vents for the fans to suck air.
Ya i have this case and yep i am still using it when i saw they had this coming out i was like yes i can finally upgrade my case and then i saw this and well they pretty much fd up they had such a bug thing going for them with this case and they missed it i mean i wanted them to take the cosmos to the maker series and i was hoping the was it i guess i am waiting another 5 years to upgrade my case
what do you expect they claim to make the most ideal air cooling cases....with directive airflow. What i hate about cm is no matter from low end to flagship cases too much plastic nothing to actually definitively show the difference between their top tier cases and their lower end other than "finished metal" or brushed metal panels....while again being like 50/50 plastic parts theyve become more thermal take over the last 5 years than coolermaster
same here. I really thought they were going to make the Cosmos attractive again. I had hopes, and cooler master knows people get all excited when you just say "Cosmos 2". They milked this to death.
As one would know, this case is exactly like the original Cosmos II. It just has a silver paint job added to it. If I had this case, I would have added parts from the original Cosmos II to customize it a little bit. I do like the silver paint on the outside, but not a big fan of the glass panels that it comes with. If I was a huge system modder, I'd keep the glass panels. Since I'm not, but like the silver paint job, I could replace the glass panels with the doors from my original Cosmos II. I think for those who have the original Cosmos II, this case is an easy pass since all it has going for it is a new silver paint job.
its an amazing case i own the original i have a 5960x and triple 980ti sli build on water, being able to get all the radiators and still have room for my massive amount of storage was a godsend and i love the case to the point i already own the original and will be buying this one just to pull the panels and put them on my chassis. It is a case loved by those who own it and unapologetic to those who don't.
There is a reason we don't use anything in a PC case that isn't powdercoated anymore. EVERYTHING inside this case will scratch. I don't care one bit about nostalgia if the thing they want me to be nostalgic about is simply not practical.
Have the same case. Amazing case. I just wish I can upgrade the front ports on case. Can always hook up front bay expansion slot. Can add an extra 120mm fan inside the case behind behind the 200mm front fan. I have the bottom bays removed for more air. Until I get more storage in place. A great case for potential home server applications. Lots of storage. 9/10.
I love how many hard drives this case can take up ,I already have around 5 hard drives and looking to expend and this case can take so much more ,on another note it's a time to buy new panals
At 6:08 you can see aluminium shavings right below the motherboard. Was that from the case? Shows the quality level CM has. I mean 300+ and it doesn't include cleaning the materials?
I believe they chose to retain the internal features because, just like it's predecessor, it was one of the few cases of it's time that delivered an extremely expansive and robust case design while keeping classic conventional features such as cd/dvd rom bays, hot swap bays and huge storage potential, which users like myself still value highly. I have the Cosmos 2 normal edition and I've always made use of 8 of the HDD bays. In fact I was constantly swapping them out. Had my motherboard supported more sata devices I would have used up all the bays. If you're using it for a media PC, you'll benefit from the high level of redundancy made available with all those bays. Likewise you can easily install boxed copies of video games, watch blue ray movies, burn movies, games etc. For me those aspects are far from dead, so I can see the merit of it's internal design. Not sure about the Anniversary edition, but the normal Cosmos 2 has stellar air-cooling potential. Though this has probably diminished greatly with the new side panel design. That is the main detraction I can see with this case.
I like the outside look, and appreciate hard drive space considering so many new cases limit hdd/ssd space. Having 5 drives I like a case with lots of storage space. However they lost it with the cable management and the top io doesn't look great. For the price it does seem like it's lacking in feautures
For people like me who use a lot of hard drives, these kinds of cases are pretty rare to come across. Seeing as how many of the big cases that are being released are more focused on being able to fit two systems instead of one with more hard drives and sometimes don't even give the option to add more hard drives. I do wish they'd have updated more about the case like the fans but overall I'm not too disappointed with it except for the price that is. Really wish I could get this case.....
Its true everything he said about this case, I have this case, and I was kind of disappointed in it, but I love the look of it, and this case has soooo much potential, I moded my case, fit a 3 fan radiator on the top took out all the hard drive racks, put in a 120mm and 140mm radiator at the front. So if you take the time to mod it and customize it, all the issues he mentioned are gone. And they also fixed the rattling glass panel issue he was pointing out, they have rubber pegs on the top and bottom of each glass panel that prevents it from rattling anymore. This case requires work, but in the end its worth it, better looking than any other computer case out there
That moment when a $70 P400 has a better interior than a $300+ case. The max I would pay for this case would be $100 and that is pushing it. Why didn't they actually update the inside.
I still own the 2012 Cosmos 2, modded it 90 degress to put (2) 420mm Radiators a Quad Gpu and a E-ATX motherboard. and still have room for 3hdd drives and 4SSD drives
it heavily focuses on drive mounts but even getd beaten there by the define r5, which has 5 + 3 HDD slots, 2 SSD slots and and two 5.25 slots on a much smaller footsprint and a third of the prize
I would have bought this case in a heartbeat had they modernized the interior. Always loved the look of the Cosmos 2, and the anniversary edition looks even more beautiful with glass.. But it is with this as with the original, the surprising lack of radiator space in such a large case and poorly interior design makes this a no go still. Had it been fully modular on the inside and supported 420s it would have been my next case. Guess that is why i am using a Darkbase pro 900 and probably will for a long time since it fits 2x 420 rads without much modification.
I was using 8 harddrives when I purchased the Cosmos II, so for me lots of hdd space was a good thing. However today im using 4, so a few dedicated ssd brackets would suffice for me. And still one 5.25". And like mentioned, it's been 5 years. Cooler Master are better than to re-relase the Cosmos II where the only change is cosmetic. I get it, they want to reach out to the fanbase of the Cosmos II. The people who disliked the first one wont like this one. However those who REALLY wanted the first one but never got around to buy one, gets a chance with an updated version. Lower cost for Cooler Master to simply pimp it out a little.
Case is a shamble's, Silverstones FT02 which I believe is now 10 years old, looks better, performs better and is made with better quality aluminium for half the price and is still the best air cooled case on the market. Wish you would take a look at it in comparison to modern cases. I would be very interested to hear how you get on with your Ryzen rig.
I own the original Cosmos II. I bought the Cosmos C700P but returned it because of quality control issues (Cosmos II >> C700P. I really wish Cooler Master had updated this - refined it by the following: 1) shrink the control panel for adequate air flow for third fan placement on top 2) allow for removal of entire front 5.5 bay area 3) front radiator support 4) reduce front sliding cover size with mesh for better air flow 5) copy top radiator support from H500P 6) get rid of unnecessary cables from control panel (I removed these, cables were glued to PCB - problematic)
I'm with Dimitri on this. WTF was Cooler Master thinking? This case could have been so much more if they had just put a little more effort into the execution of this case. He's right, they just slapped a couple of tempered glass panels on an older case. We deserve more than that for the price of this case.
I have both the cosmos ii and 25th anniversary versions, I use both as mass storage, I was wondering were you missing the power led cable? As it’s not on my 25th anniversary version, only hdd led, reset sw, and power sw but no power led, my original cosmos ii has he power led though
You ask who needs that many drive bays, well one could also ask who needs a front rad or a rad at all. Not every case needs to cater to those who like to play with water.
4:39: "Who needs so much hard drive storage?" I do. I could do with out all the frilly plastic stands and see through sides though. Really wish I could get a case with this much storage with out the eye candy and less money. "Why?" You ask. Because I would really like to build my next FreeNAS with that many drives in it.
I Currently run two raid setup's for my home server one for file storage and one for VM storage. I use a total of 8 HDD I also have a 500 gig SSD for certain VM's that's a total of 9 drives. I could easily use this case to its full potential and it would be a great case to run a server in. I could care less about front radiator mounting as long as I have the top to mount a radiator for the CPU.
I have a Cosmos II Original that I bought specifically for 12 Hard Drives (48TB to be exact). I was gonna have Lee H. Fab me a Window but we never got around to it. I agree with all the other points you made though. Not enough updated to warrant buying it again. You could use an old Cosmos II back side panel so as not to see the ugliness and it probably wouldn't rattle. You might try putting a rubber bushing or O-ring in the hole.
I have an old cosmos 2 that has been replaced by the Phanteks Enthoo Primo. This case was such a waste of space and poor rad support. They really missed the boat on this one. It could have been great!
The Cosmos S and the newer Cosmos 2 used to be my favourite cases but in a time with hard drives so large as to only need 1 or 2 max; and when SSD's are taking over as fast short term storage and application/gaming drives what the hell was Coolermaster thinking? Your right Dmitry, this shit is completely unacceptable especially considering the cosmos sold for close to $500 Canadian and I'm sure they won't lower the price. The Phanteks Enthoo evolv TG still takes the crown for nicest case IMO, but I'll be honest the outside of the cosmos is and always has been a thing of beauty.
Am agree, interior layout needed some actual care. Also why not usb 3 - c on the front i/o panel or even HDMI? For an even deeper argument, if there was more relevance given to the potencial fact that today 2.5 ssds or hdd may be more popular, than could determine even a small reduction of the overall case footprint. Excuse my english am learning.
some of us have power supplies worth showing off and know how to cable manage. That and a cookie cutter lighting system that makes your rig look like hank hill's christmas decorations isnt appealing to alot of us.
Well I loved the case back then, it was freaking awesome. Now I would have to go with the Fractal Define R5, which is a much quieter looks sleek and elegant.
the CPU cooler is be quiet! Pure Rock and since i've mounted on a X370 AMD board, it can only face up with the AM4 mount on this particular motherboard.
You can order free AM4 kits for the Dark Rock and Shadow Rock coolers, but they claim the Pure Rock is compatible with all "current" AMD sockets. It makes we wonder if the web page for Pure Rock has not been updated since AM4 came out.
Cooler Master really dropped the ball on a case that could have potentially sold very well if they took the time to fully update it. I'm still rocking a modded cosmos ll and would have gladly shelled out their price point for a "fully" updated cosmos.
Needs a proper basement (keep those drive trays on the bottom, and get rid of the front mounted ones), SSD brackets would be nice, but judging by how dark the glass is, it'ts not needed, less glossy material on the inside as it will show dust like crazy and finally it needs better tiedown loops along side SSD brackets on the back. With these it would actually be modern.
Buy the case that best fits your needs. This one is not the case for you but that doesn't make it a wrong case, just not for you. This case is for people like me that have a use for 12 hard drives in a storage array. I have two of those under my desk right now, with a few extra for Virtual Machines. Total, I have 33 hard drives and just a single SSD for my personal rig.
He destroyed the dream I was having about porting my silver build over to this case. That rant about the interior was so spot on, I was like Yahhh! He's so right. Not cool Cooler Master, not cool at all.
Hey Dimitri, Jonsbo manufactures beautiful full aluminum cases that are great value. Such as the Jonsbo VR1, VR2, RM3 or UM4, check them out if you find any time. ;)
So, a comment on the hard drive space... I've actually been looking for a case that could house all of my HDDs. Currently I am in an ArmorRevo Snow Edition, with all drive bays populated and 2 of the 5.25 converted to house 3x3.5" drives. I definitely need a case with more HDDs than the average user. Having 11+2 (effectively 13) plus the added 3x5.25 which will allow for another 3 or 4 HDDs, is definitely appealing to me. The downside for me here is the lack of radiator support. Could the top house an H100i from Corsair? if so, could it do so while housing a 120mm rad for the MSI 2080Ti Seahawk X in the rear fan slot? That information would be helpful :)
the cosmos II to this day, is my dream case... if i could get one, i would use it.. everybody i know who bought one back then, still using it.. still loving it... wish i could have afforded one... really nice case.. well at least the original.. As to lose screws and such, always check all the screws so many times they come with loose screws and this shits driven me nuts for over a decade.. not coolermaster just in general...
After watching the video and despite said faults, I still want one! For me, the exterior is more important than the interior, my only OCD thing is making sure my color theme matches, if so than I'm happy. :D Right now I have the NZXT H630, I got it for the silent factor, but the airflow really is poor. The new Cosmos dwarfs my case, mine being 21.54" x 9.65" x 22.32" and the Cosmos 27.72 x 13.54 x 26.14 in and the airflow appears to be better, though I'm not a pro at what is or isn't good airflow tbh...
Brutal review and while it may be deserved, I am not out to win any build competitions. It is a beautiful case and with some TLC the layout problems can be overcome (a tiny rubber dot placed along the mating surface of the door will solve your rattle). The only thing I was truly disappointed with is the absence of a USB-C connector on the input panel. The additional drive bays are a requirement for me as I run 6 6TB drives along with my .M2 boot drive and a 4K burner drive. I also appreciate the extra room because of my large hands. An Asus ROG build with Aura Sync is going in along with In Win Aurora fans and RGB Ram so the interior visual aesthetics will not suffer due to the lack of an updated interior design. Do I wish they had done a better job? Sure. Will it negatively impact my build? Not in the least.
Hello my friend Can you help, I have COSMOS II and I lost my PSU BRACKET, if have any suggestions help me or maybe can you send the size of PSU BRACKET if you have.
"So Bob how are our sales doing?" "Excellent Tim, only our old Cosmos II is not selling well, maybe we should retire it" "I see, well... So, whens our payday? Was hoping to go rafting on Friday after work i hope they don't make some stupid Anniversary party" "I hope so too Tim. Wait we could just make side panels of the Cosmos II with the leftover tempered glass we don't need and call it special, no-no, ANNIVERSARY edition!" "That's a great idea Bob! Lets do it!"
I had my hand under my jaw and ready to catch it..As it became unnecessary. For I was going to say this jaw dropping case would do nicely. As you reviewed the case and described it further.,, My ambition's just melted away. To bad Dmitry. So sad to see a potentially high end case suffer on so many levels. I hope that Cooler Master Takes this seriously. Because as A PC case enthusiast like myself knows. A lot of the selling point's that a case has to contend with is having the correct lay-out for all components and cable management. I have no more to say. Other then Be true to yourself and others. Have A Wonderful Day.
I am a mac user presently and the utter lack of space for adding stuff is what bugs me the most. So having lots of space to add things inside appeals a lot to me. I want to put in blue disc burner, lots of hardrive space for storing videos, photos etc.
I wish I could buy another one for my next server. It's epic and highly recommended. I already have one, but not the anniversary edition. BTW 13 HDD slots are still not enough! :-)
I have 8 3TB drives in 2 RAID 5 arrays, Boot off a samsung 850 Pro, I do have a NAS its got 4 3tb drives in a RAID 5 as well.
Tyler Watkins I agree ,the only thing that kept me from buying new case is the fact that no other case can hold up my drivers
What i love about coolermaster is that in general they don't forget about the 5.25" drive bays. I need my bd drive and fan controller...
Jayscool It's mostly TV I've been recording for 15 years.
I am glad that you can be critical and not be affected by your sponsors. This is reviewing done right. Thank you.
Our marketing relationship with Cooler Master is professional :D I am curious to see their suite at Computex ha.
-Dmitry.
I just really liked this video you guys make good videos keep up the good work.
How can they get so much right with their Master Case Pro 6 and get so much wrong with this?
$$$
You said it.
They just put a new color and tempered glass panels, nothing new lol. The cooling on the side is the example that they didn't bother too much, on the original cosmos II there are vents for the fans to suck air.

if only they made this exterior with the interior of the master case lineup
The exterior looks great but that interior layout is horrible
typical Coolermaster for you.
what do you expect they claim to make the most ideal air cooling cases....with directive airflow. I don't even like the look of it from the outside. Never buy this rippoff
you know that plastic in our days is more expensive than iron and aluminium. atm pa it cost average 1 euro aluminium and iron it cost below 0.4 euro
I had a excited emotion when I entered the video, then I just got so disappointed
same here. I really thought they were going to make the Cosmos attractive again. I had hopes, and cooler master knows people get all excited when you just say "Cosmos 2". They milked this to death.
yea
"They milked this to death."
Dafuq is that? Cosmos II is supposed to be like it's the predecessor. Not modernism.
for $320 I am VERY disappointed. seems like I'm going to choose c700p instead. it seems to be a good choice.
As one would know, this case is exactly like the original Cosmos II. It just has a silver paint job added to it. If I had this case, I would have added parts from the original Cosmos II to customize it a little bit. HE'S NOT WRONG.
It's beautiful...until you opened it. The '90's called, they want their computer back.
yes. It's supposed to be like that. 90s. Nostalgia.

lol.. so 2012=90s?
Well the cosmos looks like a sci fi case from the 90s...
@Viking 404 what are our options for that these days? Inwin 303 & 301?
Have the same case.
Amazing case. I just wish I can upgrade the front ports on case. Can always hook up front bay expansion slot.
Can add an extra 120mm fan inside the case behind behind the 200mm front fan.
I have the bottom bays removed for more air. Until I get more storage in place.
A great case for potential home server applications. Lots of storage.
9/10.
The inclusion of that Phanteks ad is like Dmitri silently whispering to us
"Pssstt... hey, check this one instead, hint hint" XD
I love how many hard drives this case can take up ,I already have around 5 hard drives and looking to expend and this case can take so much more ,on another note it's a time to buy new panals
I own a cosmos 2. this is awesome. my case is out dated but now I can keep my old case and buy a side panel window to show off my hardware.
I want silverstone to revamp their FT02 and RV02 cases, along with the TJ07. Those were THE cases. Innovative, premium, beautiful.
At 6:08 you can see aluminium shavings right below the motherboard. Was that from the case? Shows the quality level CM has. I mean 300+ and it doesn't include cleaning the materials?

I got mine 2 days ago. I love it. updated from a Nvidia 334 CoolerMaster Elite case.

I remember this being my dream case back in the day. How the mighty have fallen.
thank you for not sugar coating! good review
I love how real this video is , this is what i like real stuff , good video man
Its true everything he said about this case, I have this case, and I was kind of disappointed in it, but I love the look of it, and this case has soooo much potential, I moded my case, fit a 3 fan radiator on the top took out all the hard drive racks, put in a 120mm and 140mm radiator at the front. Great review and you are spot on with your comments thanks!
This is fantastic case, I'm using it still. Love it.
1:48 the wingspan on it reminds me of a portal turret personally.
Love the new front dust filter removal idea, i think i'm gonna buy it!
Case is absolutely Stunning!
The way he says Cosmos lol 0:17
TriFlix Films He sounds like Idubbbz.

agree with you... seems they had the chassis lying around and just gave them the new exterior to get to sell them...
I would have bought this case in a heartbeat had they modernized the interior.
Always loved the look of the Cosmos 2, and the anniversary edition looks even more beautiful with glass..

My basic advice to anyone interested in the Cosmos is, buy a mastercase maker 5 or pro 6. You'll be happy with either of those
I was using 8 harddrives when I purchased the Cosmos II, so for me lots of hdd space was a good thing. However today im using 4, so a few dedicated ssd brackets would suffice for me. It seems fine to me. I'm using a Rosewill Thor V2 case from 2012. I happen to like the old school cases.

i have Case Coolermaster Cosmos II 25th Anniversary Edition and is the best case
With glass panel? That's what people requested so far, but for me normal black one looks better.
Never cared for inside look with RGB lighting.
THE COOLER MASTER KHOSMOS IS BACK!
You ask who needs that many drive bays, well one could also ask who needs a front rad or a rad at all. Not every case needs to cater to those who like to play with water.

"Why?" You ask. Because I would really like to build my next FreeNAS with that many drives in it.
Might be a dumb question, but would this fit a Cooler Master 240L RGB Liquid AO?
Yes it would up top.
-D.
Dimitry, do the side panes of the 25th Anniversary Edition fit the regular Cosmos 2? Please reply!
Mr ,
anidees al cristal cube ir the mean it 4 pm series
I would like to see what do you think about that one
+angelo lopez crap quality build... Glass is everything
crap quality build?
how so ??
glass is everything ??
what does that mean ???
Your mic is freaking awesome!!!! what mic is it?
Can you fit 360 AIO on the top, for example NZXT Kraken z73?
I have a Cosmos II Original that I bought specifically for 12 Hard Drives (48TB to be exact). I was gonna have Lee H. Fab me a Window but we never got around to it. I agree with all the other points you made though. Not enough updated to warrant buying it again. You could use an old Cosmos II back side panel so as not to see the ugliness and it probably wouldn't rattle. You might try putting a rubber bushing or O-ring in the hole.
I just want one of those side panels for my old Cosmos II, do they sell it seperatly?
I have an old cosmos 2 that has been replaced by the Phanteks Enthoo Primo. This case was such a waste of space and poor rad support. They really missed the boat on this one. It could have been great!
good job.
Will the Kraken x62 fit on the top of this case?
Just bought one for my Plex server. Looking forward to having room for 13x 3.5" HDD, plus a 3.5" cage in the 5.25"
The Cosmos S and the newer Cosmos 2 used to be my favourite cases but in a time with hard drives so large as to only need 1 or 2 max; and when SSD's are taking over as fast short term storage and application/gaming drives what the hell was Coolermaster thinking?
Hello. I wonder how many did they make?
I like previous metal side panel.
I want Cooler Master keep producing original black Cosmos 2
has tempered glass but no rgb and no psu shroud.
0/10 would not buy
jk Great review as always
+Phillip Miller
Think about it, you're blind
Tempered glass that can easily break and handlebars for easy carry. Not logical at all.
some of us have power supplies worth showing off and know how to cable manage. That and a cookie cutter lighting system that makes your rig look like hank hill's christmas decorations isnt appealing to alot of us.
I think the C700P is better !
Hey man, any chance you'll be reviewing the new Fractal Designs Focus G case?
Well I loved the case back then, it was freaking awesome. Now I would have to go with the Fractal Define R5, which is a much quieter looks sleek and elegant.
beautiful case
What CPU cooler is that? ... and the fan is blowing upwards? I'm curious!
the CPU cooler is be quiet!
Dmitry did u got a contender for worst case of the year 2017?
Thank you for this thorough review. You saved me a few bucks right there :)
I would love to see an ITX version of this behemoth.
I remember when that case came out, I've been dreaming about a Cosmos 3.
still rocking the OG cosmos II ^^ black is king baby :> and at one point i had ALL the hdd in that case and still have like 9 in it :P
hardware canucks make absolutely the best review of chassis on the entire web. waiting the HAF H500P review :)
This case made my mouth water.
As a home media server its awesome if you can pick one up cheap enough...
Hey Dimitri, Jonsbo manufactures beautiful full aluminum cases that are great value. Such as the Jonsbo VR1, VR2, RM3 or UM4, check them out if you find any time. ;)
The Legend is Here
So, a comment on the hard drive space...
11x3.5 is.. genuinely perfect for me... thats exactly how many 3.5's i have in this cosmos medusa im still using... ;)
Where do you store all these cases?
Hello my friend
Can you help, I have COSMOS II and I lost my PSU BRACKET, if have any suggestions help me or maybe can you send the size of PSU BRACKET if you have.
Cooler Master, ya done goofed, m8.
Why did they keep the 5.25 and 3.5 inch bays?
"So Bob how are our sales doing?"
"Excellent Tim, only our old Cosmos II is not selling well, maybe we should retire it"
"I see, well... So, whens our payday? Was hoping to go rafting on Friday after work i hope they don't make some stupid Anniversary party"
"I hope so too Tim. Wait we could just make side panels of the Cosmos II with the leftover tempered glass we don't need and call it special, no-no, ANNIVERSARY edition!"
"That's a great idea Bob! Lets do it!"
Having expansion bays for frontal I/O expansion is way more important than a front-mounted radiator, IMO.
This case is on my wishlist for a very long time, only that is not so expensive... ;-)
but does the fan controller still make after market fans "click" cause I hate that on my cosmos II
I agree with you on this one
I wish I could buy another one for my next server. It's epic and highly recommended. I already have one, but not the anniversary edition. BTW 13 HDD slots are still not enough! :-)
