Wow that is a great instructional video that simplifies and shows the struggle. Others will just show removed part and you got no idea how difficult it is to remove....
Pretty much why I made it! Kept getting to a roadblock with no help from videos. Once I figured it all out thought it best to make the video I wish I had!
This was great, thanks. The best thing about it is you're a complete hack, which is exactly what I needed to get this done. Great video, and I had no screws left over at the end! Thanks again!
I'm looking to tackle this project in the coming week due to some sputtering around the probes on the steam boiler, as well as a rapidly dripping/bubbling steam wand when at rest... this video looks like it will be immensely helpful. Thank you for making this.
Great video! The little clips are easier to hold onto if you put an elastic band over the needle nose plier handles to keep it closed while you remove or insert. Or use hemostats. The o ring for the valve stem is a size BS008.
@@Swifteagle on the threads only required for the joint where he mentions " you don't have to tighten this all the way only until there's friction" i had to use teflon and nip it all the way or it would leak progressively tightening did not work for me
@@Swifteagle the main reason I didn't fully tighten, is because with new ceramic flat washers, when you tighten too tightly, the ball with struggle to turn as the washers haven't been indented enough yet
Great video with a lot more detail than others. Very helpful. Previously the steam was coming out of the wand at about 75% with the valve closed. After reversing the seals the valve actually works again. However, the inlet side of the valve now leaks. It leaks at the point where the flexible hose meets the O-ring and is secured with the hair pin retainer. The red O-ring looks fine. I tried re-seating it, still leaks. Any suggestions?
Glad it helped! Not 100% sure without seeing it, but a couple of thoughts 1) Try putting the O ring on the flexible hose first rather than seating it in the metal part, then put it back together and test. 2) At the end of the flexible hose, is the metal bit pushed into the hose enough? Sometimes the metal bit pulls out too much and can cause issues. 3) Sometimes the oring looks fine, but has still degraded enough so the seal doesn't work (cant see with the eye). Try replacing it if you can
This was super helpful and very well produced. Thank you so much. While I’m here, does anybody have any good leads on where to get spare boilers for this thing?
Where are you located? There's a Facebook group called 'Breville Dual Boiler Group' with approximately 12k members - often you can find good advice there for your specific area
Awesome thanks for sharing! My wand has a slight drip, I'm guessing it might get worse over time, but not something that NEEDS to be fixed until it becomes worse? I also hear a slight hissing sometimes that goes away after I activate the steam wand for a second. Not sure where that's coming from or if it's related.
I have had my BDB for many years now and didn't bother opening it up unit recently and noticed a lot of rust/ corrosion around the steam value mounting section. It meant a lot of the screw heads popped off when trying to undo and untimaly means it is on its last legs. Keep up with the maintaince of replacing orings (which are the easiest things to do) and the machine will last and last.
Sorry I missed this! It can happen when the screw gets rusted due to water. It's happened to me. What I did was get a drill bit the same size as the head of the screw, and drilled the head off, being careful to not drill past that. It should then come off, and with pliers you can twist out the leftover bit of the screw once you get it off
@@jonathanhann5478it turned out that the previous user used a hex type screw. Luckily I had one and was able to get it out. Now I just need to find that grey plastic piece to replace, the center cylinder is offset.
I went through all these steps, and now when I turn the machine on, it won’t start or heat up. It makes no sounds. The steam light on the front just blinks. No idea what happened.
@ it was dripping quite a bit at rest. I was able to figure out this secondary issue after I posted this. The small knob the handle attaches to was pushed outward. Apparently it has to sit just right in order to actuate the steam valve. The machine must have thought it was stuck open.

Thanks so much for this great vid. Helped me quickly fix my leaky wand. Very comprehensive. I also lost a washer while doing it 😂

Is the BS008 the o ring to replace the green one shown in the video? Thanks
Great video, I have found flipping the seals only lasts a few months before the wand leaks again. Teflon tape is a must or it will definitely leak
might sound like a dumb question, but where did you use the teflon tape? On the thread? or some how on the washers some how? thanks

Hi! My breville barista max have leaking wand when make coffe. The tap is made from plastic whits some screws in it. Can be repaired? Thanks

You're relieving the pressure of the boiler, it must be leaking from one of the connections above the boiler
