Breville Dual Boiler | Fix leaky steam wand | Replace Steam Valve OR Flip Seals | Full Tutorial
Make sure to unplug your machine before starting this fix!
It is not necessary to replace the red O-rings unless you notice they are broken, or there is a leak. I've just shown you how to do it, but you can use the ones there if they aren't causing any issues
Seals: uxcell PTFE Flat Washers 10mm OD 5mm ID 2mm Thickness Sealing Gasket for Faucet Pipe Water Hose (Search amazon)
Red O-ring: BS007 size (Search Ebay/amazon)
Green O-ring: Unsure sorry!

Breville Dual Boiler | Hissing Probe Fix
Просмотров 5 тыс.Год назад
Steam coming from the centre of a probe on my BES920. *Note, if you're hissing is coming from the outer ring of the probe, this is not the correct fix. You need a new blue O-ring as seen at 4:20. Here's the fix: O rings I bought: uxcell Silicone O-Rings, 5mm OD 2mm ID 1.5mm Width VMQ Seal Gasket for Compressor Valves Pipe Repair* www.amazon.com.au/dp/B082SV49MH?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_...
Thanks so much for this great vid. Helped me quickly fix my leaky wand. Very comprehensive. I also lost a washer while doing it 😂
This was super helpful and very well produced. Thank you so much. While I’m here, does anybody have any good leads on where to get spare boilers for this thing?
Where are you located? There's a Facebook group called 'Breville Dual Boiler Group' with approximately 12k members - often you can find good advice there for your specific area
@ Fairbanks, Alaska…
Wow that is a great instructional video that simplifies and shows the struggle. Others will just show removed part and you got no idea how difficult it is to remove....
Pretty much why I made it! Kept getting to a roadblock with no help from videos. Once I figured it all out thought it best to make the video I wish I had!
I went through all these steps, and now when I turn the machine on, it won’t start or heat up. It makes no sounds. The steam light on the front just blinks. No idea what happened.
Hmm. What was the original issue that caused you to want to fix the steam wand?
@ it was dripping quite a bit at rest. I was able to figure out this secondary issue after I posted this. The small knob the handle attaches to was pushed outward. Apparently it has to sit just right in order to actuate the steam valve. The machine must have thought it was stuck open.
@@MrSoulDevelopmentnice one troubleshooting! Glad you could fix it
I'm looking to tackle this project in the coming week due to some sputtering around the probes on the steam boiler, as well as a rapidly dripping/bubbling steam wand when at rest... this video looks like it will be immensely helpful. Thank you for making this.
How'd you go mate? Check out my other video if it's helpful for your steam probes.
@@jonathanhann5478 big improvement for me!! The steam wand no longer drips and the probes are vastly improved 🙏🏻
@@MrSoulDevelopmentgreat to hear! Good stuff - and well done. Saved yourself a few hundred bucks trying to get someone else to fix it
@@jonathanhann5478 absolutely. Thank you for this video, especially!
Just fixed my machine with the help of this video. Much appreciated mate, thank you
Epic. Glad to hear it!
Hi! My breville barista max have leaking wand when make coffe. The tap is made from plastic whits some screws in it. Can be repaired? Thanks
Sorry, I haven't tried a repair on that machine! I'm sure it can be though, check some coffee forums for anyone else who's done it
This was great, thanks. The best thing about it is you're a complete hack, which is exactly what I needed to get this done. Great video, and I had no screws left over at the end! Thanks again!
This is exactly why I made it! A complete hack to help other hacks like me - the video I wish I had😂 Glad it was helpful!
Can anybody tell me the size of the Green O’ring? Great video👍🏼
BS008 - one of the other comments stated that - I haven’t verified it
Thank you!
You're welcome!
It looks like the center screw in the handle may be stripped... Any ideas?
Sorry I missed this! It can happen when the screw gets rusted due to water. It's happened to me. What I did was get a drill bit the same size as the head of the screw, and drilled the head off, being careful to not drill past that. It should then come off, and with pliers you can twist out the leftover bit of the screw once you get it off
@@jonathanhann5478it turned out that the previous user used a hex type screw. Luckily I had one and was able to get it out. Now I just need to find that grey plastic piece to replace, the center cylinder is offset.
@@seru715 That's frustrating! Glad you had the right piece. Hopefully it's all good to go!
Thank you for this! I'd read about this procedure on home barista but there's no way I could have done it without this video.
I was the same! Lots of trial and error from reading online, figured there might be others in the same boat. Glad it helped!
Hey mate thanks so much for the video. I am struggling to get the c clip back on the probe!? Any advice?
If you use some needle nose pliers it should do the trick. Make sure you're putting it on the right spot, some sections are thicker than others
Thanks Jonathan. The point on not overtigthening the valve really helped me, as I almost got it wrong on my first try.
Glad it helped!
Great video! The little clips are easier to hold onto if you put an elastic band over the needle nose plier handles to keep it closed while you remove or insert. Or use hemostats. The o ring for the valve stem is a size BS008.
Is the BS008 the o ring to replace the green one shown in the video? Thanks
Got same symptom, didn't notice the little white o-ring at all.. Thanks a lot!
Great video with a lot more detail than others. Very helpful. Previously the steam was coming out of the wand at about 75% with the valve closed. After reversing the seals the valve actually works again. However, the inlet side of the valve now leaks. It leaks at the point where the flexible hose meets the O-ring and is secured with the hair pin retainer. The red O-ring looks fine. I tried re-seating it, still leaks. Any suggestions?
Glad it helped! Not 100% sure without seeing it, but a couple of thoughts 1) Try putting the O ring on the flexible hose first rather than seating it in the metal part, then put it back together and test. 2) At the end of the flexible hose, is the metal bit pushed into the hose enough? Sometimes the metal bit pulls out too much and can cause issues. 3) Sometimes the oring looks fine, but has still degraded enough so the seal doesn't work (cant see with the eye). Try replacing it if you can
Great video ... solved my problem ... THANK YOU Jonathan! Question: The old o-ring was buried in the ceramic tube and I was unable to remove it (even though I could see the edges of it), no matter how hard I tried (using jewelers screwdrivers and picks). I ultimately went ahead and installed a new o-ring in addition to the old one. The new ring also went up inside the ceramic and was barely visible, so (for better or worse) I installed a second (an additional) new o ring, which now is about half inside the ceramic tube and about half out of the tube. The steam no longer escapes and the machine has been working fine for a couple of days. I had to compress the assembly (the o-rings) ever so slightly in order to install the c-clip. I SHOULD have tested the assembly with just one new o ring ... it may well have worked fine ... but I am crossing my fingers that the (crazy?) combo of the old o-ring and two new ones ends up doing the job for months or, hopefully, years to come. Thanks again. BTW, the rings I used were as suggested by @turbotrana below (2.5mm ID 4.5mm OD and 1mm C/S food grade silicon).
My pleasure! Glad it was helpful! Yeah I'm not surprised that happened - I found it difficult to get mine out! If it eases your mind I would have done the same in your situation. Maybe not ideal but you can be sure it won't leak. I can't really imagine what issues that would cause? Good on you for giving it a crack!
an excellent video with lots of tidbits and detail! well done ! thankyou
Pleasure! Glad it was helpful
ha ha those are lock picks. i use those too for orings. ideal as they are very strong
Definitely! A good option I've found
Thanks for the video and break down, big help!!!
Pleasure, glad it helped!
What size was the tiny o ring? Thanks for the video.
Excellent thanks
Does anyone know all the o-ring sizes for the assembly? I'd like to be able to replace these when needed
I just measured it up and you got the wrong O ring size. I am pretty sure OEM is 2.5mm ID 4.5mm OD and 1mm C/S food grade silicon. You put in the 1.5mm cross section which is a tight fit and may last forever but the 2.5mm x 1mm will slip in easier. I got a feeling that it may be designed to leak under certain conditions so OEM size might be important.
Thanks for doing that! I was going off advice I'd read online in a few places, so can't claim to know which is better. Its worked well for me so far, but if anyone's unsure this option may be a better one to try out!
Videos cut off prematurely? Why not repost it?
You make a good point! I mainly haven't because I realised after I posted and couldn't be bothered editing again - most of the info is there that you need!
Awesome thanks for sharing! My wand has a slight drip, I'm guessing it might get worse over time, but not something that NEEDS to be fixed until it becomes worse? I also hear a slight hissing sometimes that goes away after I activate the steam wand for a second. Not sure where that's coming from or if it's related.
You're relieving the pressure of the boiler, it must be leaking from one of the connections above the boiler
I have had my BDB for many years now and didn't bother opening it up unit recently and noticed a lot of rust/ corrosion around the steam value mounting section. It meant a lot of the screw heads popped off when trying to undo and untimaly means it is on its last legs. Keep up with the maintaince of replacing orings (which are the easiest things to do) and the machine will last and last.
@@robertShaw85 are you saying basically replace the seals before they need to be replaced? Preventative maintenance?
Great video, I have found flipping the seals only lasts a few months before the wand leaks again. Teflon tape is a must or it will definitely leak
might sound like a dumb question, but where did you use the teflon tape? On the thread? or some how on the washers some how? thanks
@@Swifteagle on the threads only required for the joint where he mentions " you don't have to tighten this all the way only until there's friction" i had to use teflon and nip it all the way or it would leak progressively tightening did not work for me
@@stephenpapadimitriou2066 thank you. On my machine it is fully tight, not sure why he is not fully tightening.
@@Swifteagle the main reason I didn't fully tighten, is because with new ceramic flat washers, when you tighten too tightly, the ball with struggle to turn as the washers haven't been indented enough yet

have the same problem. I noticed the machine start hissing a couple of weeks ago, but just ignored it. Multiple probes were hissing it turns out. probably too late as the electrics are now cooked and the heat control is out of whack. probably need to replace the printed circuit board controller.
I caught mine too late and now the corrosion and contacts look like a rust heap.
Was it loud, I get a slight hiss sometimes, it goes away if you turn the steam on for a sec so I'm guessing it's something related to the steam boiler pressure. I don't see any steam leak or moisture but I hear it from somewhere... taunting me :D
thanks for the video am having the same problem, can you share the amazon link again it looks like it was cut off in the description ?

i have this same problem, been using foodgrade silicone to fill that bottom area. But only a temporary fix that lasts about 6 months. Thanks for the video!
No worries!
If you put the c clip back on and it falls off, you've put it too low! The cylinder is a touch thicker higher up
