Fun fact no one is talking about: this was also the introduction to the new drummer, and I think it's nice they started with the muffled and "distant" drums, only to bring them to the forefront when Emily starts singing, kinda like saying "hey, these are the new folks, say hi to them"
The difference is that we already knew that Rob wasn't in the group anymore. So they hired a new drummer. But the fact that they had a new vocalist, and the fact that is a girl and everbody was expecting a boy and at least someone trying to do Chester's stuff, that's the surprise and that's why everyone is talking about. To me, she is perfect, she is not replacing Chester, she's creating something new. Chester sang with pain, Emily sings with anger. To me that's amazing and I'm so excited for this comeback and waiting for the album.
@@philkrugel1452 love that one! I cried when I first heard Emptiness Machine, so many emotions and it brought back the loss of Chester but I’m so happy for them!
@@jackie5177 I got very emotional watching the live stream where they introduced Emily to the LP world. I’ve shed many tears since Chester died and then again when they brought us some old unreleased tunes and now with Emily aka the bravest woman in rock. She absolutely kills it on Heavy Is The Crown!!
Thank you for being the 1st vocal coach I've come across to notice the F5 she belted in the final chorus, without going into her head voice! Because F5 is DIFFICULT for me to reach without going into my head voice! Maybe its because I'm a guy.
Thanks for a brilliant reaction & analysis Jen. I've watched a lot of these now but yours is one of the best. I really appreciate how you dissected the multiple variations in both instrumentation and vocal delivery, it changes listening experience and how you hear the song.
initially I was just pumped and happy to see them back together with a new vocalist that did not dissapoint. Then I started listening to the lyrics and yeah im fucking crying. LP always just had a way of hitting you hard with their lyrics. Fucking tearing up because like always I can relate to their words.... just glad to have them back. They're like the friend you always had when you were at your lowest points.
Being unsure of how much Linkin Park you have heard, you should definitely check out Given Up (the live video). Chester was such an amazing talent. I am happy with the direction they went with Emily, she has a voice that can do justice to Chester’s part of their catalog but doesn’t sound like a cheap rip off or replacement for him. (He can’t be replaced)
Wait what? you youtube? I just randomly came across this channel and reaction while doom scrolling and enjoy watching people's reactions to this. I love the new Linkin Park reboot so far. Its good to see you're indepth breakdown as well as you performing
I am so excited for you to jump down the linkin park hole. Live performances are awesome because you can truly see Chester put his entire soul on the line for each song
I really like Emily, she's got great energy & perfect voice for this. As a Brit you might understand my dilemma - I'm an Aussie & I will sing but oof my vowels are very obviously Aussie lol. I've been trying forever to not sound like I'm singing "moi" when I'm doing "me" , especially while using the old false cord distortion. I sound like Kath & Kim & is not ideal lol
Great breakdown! I recommend watching Linkin Park performing their song QWERTY live in Tokyo in 2006. Chester's vocals on that are crazy and I'd love to see your reaction to it!
Mike sounds great here. Never really got to really hear him sing. Dont think they deserve hate for briging her in. They want to make music and waited along time
Future Linkin Park reaction suggestions? There's a lot to choose from. In the End (the first song of theirs I ever heard), Bleed it Out, One More Light, Iridescent, Hands Held High, Guilty all the Same - should keep you going for a while as well as introducing you to the variety of styles of music Linkin Park have made over the years.
I only want to be part of the positivity regarding changes like this. Not any part of the potential backlash negativity. In my view vital artists should be able to continue creating and achieving art. Because rising from the ashes is a potent victory.
Lovely reaction! Although I'm looking forward to a dive into Heavy is the Crown just like the rest, I hope you can also take the time to explore Waiting For The End. It has arguably one of Chester's most impactful vocals coupled with devastating lyrics. Plus the song itself is so well put together.
As several others have noted, check out their latest (just released yesterday) called Heavy is the Crown. For going through the back cataloger to experience Chester's voice more, you need to react to a live version of Given Up. I know there are several, but I think any of them would be great to check out. He always delivered in live performances, so you cannot go wrong.
Thanks for the reaction Jennifer, I cam e hear because of your reactions to Home Free but am enjoying your new found interest in Linkin Park. I was at their London concert two nights ago, Emily isn't Chester but she is a great performer and certainly has a slightly different spin on some of their tracks. I don't think there are many Linkin Park tracks you could pick that would be bad for a reaction so I'll let others suggest those, having said that if you want to hear a more stripped back version of Chester he did a cover of Rolling in the Deep in 2011 at the iTunes festival in London, with Mike playing the keyboard. The video is on youtube and is pretty good, even though the crowd was singing along. Maybe one to consider after you have got a bit more used to his 'normal' Linkin Park sound. Keep up the great work.
Hi Jennifer, your reactions are so awesome! Thank you. When you have a chance please react to the LOVEBITES song EDGE OF THE WORLD, LIVE with lyrics. The singing will take you on an emotional journey.
An interesting fact that people haven't noticed is that when the chorus happens, Emily is wearing a sweater very similar to the ones Kurt Cobain wore. Her drive vocals remind me Kurt Cobain
Linkin Park did an amazing cover of Rolling in the Deep, would love to see your reaction to that! I also think you'd enjoy Waiting for the End, but it's unlike anything else they've really done. It's the song that got Emily Armstrong so choked up she had to stop singing during her first show with the band, and Mike Shinoda's said it's his favorite LP song. Last one I'll mention is With You, it's got some seriously gritty growls from Chester. :D
A few of my favorites from Linkin Park with more singing than aggression My December Breaking The Habit Waiting For The End Iridescent The Messenger Castle of Glass Roads Untraveled Powerless
Jeniffer listen to Hybrid Theory their first album and hear Chester's voice in so many different ways , he , Chris Cornell and Michael Hutchins from Inxs are in my opinion the 3 best male vocalists that I know of .
Good LP songs that you should definetly react on are: Numb/Encore (really nice official mashup) Bleed it out (can react on emily too) New Divide (it's a Transformers title song, really cool) One more light (much calmer and soooo emotional, especially considering Chris Cornell's death and later Chester's too) Breaking the habit (one of my favorites) What I've Done (another favorite) In the End (ofc!! most popular song of the band) Castle of Glass (I'm sure you heared it before, very popular on the radio) Heavy is the crown (original with Emily, new League of Legends Worlds Title song) Other good songs to react to: Hands Held High (mostly Mike's rap, very different from all other songs on the list, and an anti war topic, sadly still up-to-date...) In my remains (on the calmer side) burn it down (similar to What I've Done, another favorite) Given up (a lot of screaming) Lies greed misery (almost a bit punky) Papercut (very interesting melodic choices, can react on emily too) *The Requiem - might want to listen to it not on stream, its a filler between songs, but a good one Iridescent (sad song) Somewhere I belong (another favorite, amazing Mike part) guess that's enough choices. I personally think that it doesn't matter much whether you react to a live performance of it or not.
This song is good and both the singer own it. My request please check Hybrid Theory Vocalist also, I can say his voice is not exactly like Chester but sound the same! 😊😊
I've been catching the live shows from their current tour as they pop up on the Tubez and IMO The Emptiness Machine sounds much better live. There is a little (IMO) overproduction to the voices with the album version that isn't there live. It just sounds so damn clean :)
Muffled instruments are old techniques used in dance music. Picture the drum roll goin g from muffled to clear when the beat drops. lol #theseguysthinktheyinventeditlololololl
