Many HVAC service calls are due to the blower motor not working. This is the diagnosis and solution I found for a Trane air handler with a blower fan that wont' turn on. In my video are all the steps I went through to figure out what was wrong and to fix the situation, so if you are worried about fan motor replacement for your HVAC air handler, these are the steps you need to see. Remember, the blower motor is crucial to the proper function and operation of your HVAC system.

My Digital Clamp Meter: amzn.to/3TYJIHX
Fluke Clamp Meter: amzn.to/3exBhD3
Fan Blower Wheel Puller: amzn.to/3d1psVk
With the right tools and a little know-how, I figured out what was wrong, and fixed the problem. This information is unique because never have I seen articles on the internet or youtube talking about how one can look up inside a Trane air handler or test resistances in the way an AC Service Tech should test fan blower motor resitances.

Bro I love this guy's narrative skills 😅...hes like the white Morgan Freeman 😅😅
Love your voice and demeanor. Thank you for the video buddy. Im a 19 year veteran auto mechanic so im thinking of just taking on my own hvac repairs because of the price, hassle, and time wasted on simple stuff i could likely do on my own
Sounds like you have a lot of mechanical knowledge, so why not? Just be careful and do lots of research. Household electric is nothing to be casual about. And let's face it, most of those HVAC guys are just salesmen in disguise!
Do you guys get paid by the word? Dying here at 100 ° , obviously repairmen charge too much . Looking for repair help online and go through an hour of someone describing the heat to me.
Unfortunately, I am not aware of any 20-second solutions. Maybe wikipedia?
@@MervsServiceSecrets Anybody who doesn't have the attention span for a 13-minute video should NOT be attempting their own repairs. 😁
Agreed, but let's be nice, it's really hot in some parts of the country. And, yes, that's why my videos are for entertainment and educational purposes only. Most people don't understand nor have the patience to navigate the dangers involved in such repairs.
Though this content doesn't apply to me in the least I still had to watch every second! Lol love your stuff! And appreciate your shared wisdom! 🥰
Awesome! Thank you! You rock!
I need one of those booklets Please

It helps me.... smile!!! OK and helps me with household electronics. Thanks Merv!
Rock on! You be careful now!
A/c running. Motor runs most of the time but sometimes it doesn’t. But compressor will be. The evaporator then freezes up. At that point I turn off ac, I turn on manual fan and it won’t come on either. It seems after it sits, the ice thaws I can then press fan again it then works. At that point I turn ac back in and it works fine. Can’t find the rhyme or reason. The motor is maybe 2-3 years old, just replaced capacitor thinking it was the issue. But it continues to randomly not work. I’m
Replacing thermostat cause it’s 24 years old. But a hvac guy told me if I hit box and blower starts then it was a certain thing but I can’t remember what he said. I went under house watched. The outdoor unit started but blower didn’t. I hit the box with my hand and it started blowing high speed.
Maybe low refrigerant????
Excellent video. Thank you much. Merv, kindly, our furnace (circa 1981 Borg Warner/Trane natural gas, still in good condition) blows the screw in breaker (locate on outside of it) whenever the blower tries to start. The start relay actuates, and AC unit runs fine with the motor electrically disconnected from the system. It's only when the motor is connected that the fuse fails at start. The blower assembly turns freely inside the plenum. Between the leads to the motor: ~2.1 ohms resistance (not zero/short). I think it's a single speed motor ('R.P.M. 1075, AMP 5.0' written on it), & has 3 power leads coming/going to it. (It's always only run @ one speed, as far as I can tell from the register air outputs). ¿Is this motor bad or can a start cap cause this type of failure, kindly? ANY advice or comments much appreciated. Thank you so much.
Did you ever find the answer and/or solution? What was it?
Love it! U gotta a new subscriber
I just love your humour ! and great teaching method !
Thank you! 😃
These videos are the best!
Good one Merv!
Also a good idea to put a surge protector on the furnace circuit. My furnace got hit, and it had a ECM blower. $1000 for a new motor, and that is just part cost! $$$
Good tip. Thank you!
Good advice. I live on a hill that is a magnet for lightning. I've lost two devices (fortunately cheap ones) to surges. To protect my more expensive devices I've installed both whole house protection at the breaker box and a specific HVAC protector at the outside power cutoff for my heat pump. For the whole house, I installed at Siemens FS140, which is now being replaced with the FSPD140. (Check around. The prices vary enormously.) To protect my heat pump, I got an Intermatic AG3000. You should be able to get both (or comparable units) for under $300. As you note, not having them can cost far more in repairs.
Man that was so satisfying my dude
Loved this Video... Thanks fur puttin out yonder...! Cudos from Colorado!
