The Super Dimension Fortress Macross: Do You Remember Love? is a 2D shoot 'em up adaptation of the 1984 anime film of the same title, released exclusively in Japan on the Sega Saturn in 1997, the Sony PlayStation in 1999 and the PlayStation 3 in 2012 (through digital download).
In the game, the player takes the control of main protagonist Hikaru Ichijyo, as he battles Zentradi units on each stage. The format of the game is a 2D side-scrolling shooter (like the original Macross game for the Nintendo Family Computer with also level design inspired by the Macross: Eternal Love Song game for the PC Engine CD). The player has two basic attacks: Gun Pod and micro-missiles. In addition, the VF-1 Valkyrie unit controlled by the player can transform into Fighter, Gerwalk and Battroid modes during battle.

Never heard of this game but this looks amazingly AWESOME! Reminds me of my favorite PS game: 'Raystorm' but with side scrolling. 😎✨

Super Dimension Fortress Macross had so many great 2D shmup. It sucks that the only game Macross 7 got was a GBC game. At least it was still a 2D shmup one.

It’s a classic of the genre. It’s worth a watch if you have some time.

Yes, weather you watch the "Japanese" or "English" or both, you enjoy it or cry. Be warned that Japanese version is only 1 season, the other 2 seasons was separate shows. So the series in English was integrated into one whole series. Japanese version is called "MACROSS" while the English version is called "ROBOTECH".

Why did the music stop at the end?! @1:06:40

From what I can tell the song stops because Golg Boldza zer’s (The big fortress) fleet was going through a culture shock which kinda makes them freak out and lose fighting spirit, so Boldza sends a mobile Jammer. Also Breeti’s fleet was ineffective to the singing because they had already had experience with the Macross and its culture
