Seems I'd better be writing this here rather than repeating myself over and over in the comments section, but Pulstar was made by former members of Irem who originally made R-Type hence the resemblance. Obviously Aicom didn't have the rights to the R-Type name which is why it was named Pulstar.
@Radwar99 Yeah, I can see where you are coming from. In fact, this feels like it was originally going to eighter be a sequel to R-TYPE, or a remake of the first game, which seems more likely. My theory is that they were developing a remake of the first R-TYPE game in the series, but eighter did not have the rights to R-TYPE, or wanted to make something that does not have the R-TYPE branding slapped on it, so they rebranded it to pulstar. Therefore, Pulstar is a rebranded remake of the first R-TYPE, while Blazing Star is a rebranded remake of R-TYPE 2.
Stunningly beautiful game! I still can't wrap my head around the fact that this is 1990 hardware designed in 1988-89. My cousin has an AES one of the early ones that was ment for Video rental stores, and the details in some of the games like Last Blade or this one, or Viewpoint or any of the King of Fighters or Gaoru is shocking. I mean even playing SF4 or SF5 with its 3d graphics is crap compared to SNKs mastery, only SF2 & 3 matched it, and no modern game has ever made me feel the way i did when i played the MVS in arcade, maybe it was that time... the console wars, the incredibly inovative games, it will never happen again. My fave quick play is SVC Chaos playing with Sagat =) I loved SF in the arcade but this system was the onlyone that did it perfectly in the early to mid 90s, and it's a testament to high quality design that they made games for it until 2005, i cant think of any other mayor home console that was supported that long. Its like a time warp to my teens when i play any of its games. I love may other games on SNES or Genesis or PS1 & PS2 or Saturn, but NeoGeo is just so full of mistique. Its something difficult to discribe, but to this day i get goosbumps evertime i touch the AES.
Ah yes. I remember falling in love with Blazing Star and went to find Pulstar cause it was the 'prequel' after someone mentioned it. Just amazing how good these side scroller shmups were. I wish the story was more fleshed out. The premise just seems so interesting.
The animation of the bosses look amazing. The transformation of the first boss, molding from scrap, is really cool. Also the boss-design of stage 6 around 28:29 is kinda ... 😏
Both games are different and great, Pulstar is more about memorization, it feels hard because it encourage you to play it several times in order to master each level perfectly
I love both games but also give the edge to Blazing Star. That said, this game has the better soundtrack and visuals. I just wish I was better at Pulstar.😂😂
Based on the comments seems like there's people who didn't knew about this game at all. I thought it was more well known. Pulstar is awesome, one of many many R-Type clones but in a good way, plays great, looks great and is hard as herll haha but fun nonetheless.
It only featured a chick running. I would never count that to be "the best ever." Sol Feace, among other Shooter'em Ups, had incredible intros. Heck, Bari-Arm would like to have a word with you on that statement.
Dieses Spiel ist absolut sauschwer durchzuspielen. Ich habe es selbst schon oftmals versucht und scheiterte bereits in den ersten Sekunden. Hut ab vor dem, der das Game beherrscht!!
Man i begged for a neo geo as a kid never happened lol now I look at the prices jesus! Mom and dad would rent me one every now and then at least from blockbuster!
Everyone who worked on R-TYPE originally wanted to make a remake of the first game, but instead decided to rebrand it into Pulstar. That’s the backstory behind the game.
Pulsar was basically an amped up R-Type!! Awesome game

I don't think they wanted to make an officially licensed game to boot

So it's a shameless R-Type clone lol

Seeing you fly past other members of the same organization you work for and fail in the last stage hits you right in the feels.

Blazing Star is an indirect sequel
The animation of the bosses look amazing. The transformation of the first boss, molding from scrap, is really cool. Also the boss-design of stage 6 around 28:29 is kinda ... 😏
lol the player's ship interrupted what would've been some super messed up alien porn
Basically R-Type on steroids.
Always blows my mind how good the frame rate animation can be on the Neo Geo.
This is one of the best looking side scrollers out there. Very nice indeed.
The graphics are stunning...some of the best 2d work I've seen...
Neo Geo had a 24bit 24 Mhz GPU and Bus.
@@humansrants1694Yeah it had pretty impressive sprite capabilities
This game was crazy insane hard. I prefer blazing star. It had more vehicle options and the soundtrack was amazing!

This channel is everything!
Looks incredible for coming out in 90
Never seen that before , looks awesome need to try it

I would say that, this game seems a buffed (in graphics) R-type.
Well the game was made by former members of Irem who made R-Type.
That bullet pattern around 23:50 is insanely tough to navigate. Great job 👍
thanks for posting the ending
i couldn't quite get there lol
The second stage is like a combination of the second stages from R-Type and R-Type II. And then the third stage pays homage to Gradius.
Pulstar has the best intro ever.. 💚💚💚 there are even more underrated games with intros as well.
It only featured a chick running.
I would never count that to be "the best ever."
Sol Feace, among other Shooter'em Ups, had incredible intros. Heck, Bari-Arm would like to have a word with you on that statement.
@@TGMShoNuff sorry I was so hyped.
R Type clone, but more importantly prequel to Blazing Star.
great job my god was this a hard game to play fun but hard
Wait a tick! Thats R-type!
It was made by former members of Irem who made R-Type.
@Tikiboomboom84 From the same people that brought you the R-TYPE series, introducing Pulstar!
This game familiar R-Type nice gameplay.
Did u use to have consoles in Arabian peninsula countries?
@@emresarhan5370 No I’m from Malaysian. I been play on ps1 and ps2.

AMAZING 💚💚💚
Looks awesome. I just wish it was vertically scrolling. I may have to get it on Switch.
what's with all the giant weeners in this game?
Someone had good taste 🤣
Maybe influenced by Giger
japan
There's even a penis coming OUT of a vagina at 28:30
Is it the same as R-Type?
Nostalgia
Sweet
The yellow things came out of the horns looking like Molly the tadpole
interesting our heroine is one of the pickable characters in its sequel blazing stars
Where are you can get it
Pretty impressive for 95
1995 wasn't the stone age 😅
Well i come from fighting games realm and there things were pretty dull yet. So, compared to them, yea, iron age maybe?
@@joaoguilhermebastos519 Plastic age the Neo Geo was really powerful at the time.
Tekken, Virtua Fighter 2, Soul Edge, Daytona USA, Virtua Cop, Time Crisis 1, Ridge Racer, etc were all '94/'95. Nice try though@@joaoguilhermebastos519
Man i begged for a neo geo as a kid never happened lol now I look at the prices jesus! Mom and dad would rent me one every now and then at least from blockbuster!
This game is $8 on Switch and Windows. 🥰
hyper human tech vs devilish lobster like alien mothership xddd
Up they changed it again! R type
biomechanics ?
19:25 that's normal? I mean he touches the enemy and he doesn't die
That enemy is just like a presentation of the boss, that's why there's no damage.
Probably no hitbox on the enemy also like guy from before said it's just an illusion of the boss
R-Type clone?
mmm... 1st stage looks a lot like R-Type Delta for ps1... Irem copied from this game?
Edit: also the pod, some weapons and other things are the same
R-Type on steroids
Is this part of the r-type series?
No, but it's inspired by it (and a lot of other shmups)
It was made by former members of Irem who made R-Type.
Everyone who worked on R-TYPE originally wanted to make a remake of the first game, but instead decided to rebrand it into Pulstar.
That’s the backstory behind the game.
Is it me, or is this heavily inspired by R-TYPE?
Mostly the same devs they worked on Metal Slug too.
dribblethwaite
R-type
First
second
TOTALLY not a ripoff of R-Type, you guys...
Who cares? it also used PRE-RENDERED CGi graphics and it's not like other games had similar borrowing of R-Type like gameplay mechanics.
Gradius/Life Force elements too.
LOL rip-off...
I see you never heard the term "inspired by"....
Technically I did say it was NOT a rip-off lol
Stunning regardless of its inspiration.
