    Got it. 7.5 simple equation. Thanks for the fun.

  • @EvanVilux
    @EvanVilux 5 месяцев назад +5

    Ans: b
    Why?
    We have to multiply the whole equation by 3 in order to get the denominator away. Since we are multiplying 3 by -2 and 3, we would get this:
    2m - 6 = 9
    Why 2m? Because we multiplied 3 by the fraction 2m over 3 and we cross-cancel them which would result to 2m
    Then, we get 2m = 9+6
    2m = 15
    m = 15/2 => m = 7.5
    Easy math! Thank you for sharing this problem with us!

    Seems like your method was way over complicated ? I did it in my head in about 20 seconds
    2M/3 - 2 = 3
    add 2 to both sides
    2M/3 = 5
    multiply both sides by 3
    2M=15
    divide both sides by 2
    M= 7 1/2 or 7.5 however you want to state it

      @@gregc.mariano9226 well, maybe. But the different example he posted was based on exactly the same principle, and I think a brief look at the two of them shows that. So, on balance, I don't think it's a bad error. I do a lot of proofreading, where I have to be quite pedantic and I normally find an error in the first paragraph. Often the first sentence! Errors are everywhere; its up to us to realise that and not take everything as gospel until we've examined it, tested it and understand it.
      If you think about the number of posts made on this channel, it's a small error in a lot of good stuff.

    You have no idea how far I’ve come since I’ve started watching your channel. I’m 70, and haven’t understood math since 6th grade, including 4 years at university. Starting 7th grade, I was “given” ‘D’s’ for effort. I am now considering taking your beginning math course. If someone had told me 6 months ago that I would be interested in taking a math course, I would have looked at them like they had 2 heads. THANKS!!!

      I too had trouble with math until the 10th grade when I took trig. From D's and C's to an A overnight, I ended up tutoring everyone else. I loved trig for to me it was about repeatable patterns.
      Afterwards I felt confident to tackle harder math. Flew right through Calc I, II, III and differential equations. What I learned in trig was to work the problems into a format that made sense to me, where equations can be manipulated and played with.
      We learn too much structure and format in school that is quite rigid, and unfortunately people never recover from it.

    First loose the minus 2 to the other side of the equation so m . 2/3 = 3+2 = 5
    then inverse the 2/3 to 3/2 on the other side so m = 5 x 3/2 = 15/2 = 7½ or answer B

  • @vincentrobinette1507
    @vincentrobinette1507 4 месяца назад

    I just back-titrated the whole thing. The fraction -2 had to equal 3, so 3+2=5. The fraction had to equal 5. I saw the 3 in the denominator, so 3X5=15. The numerator had to equal 15. m X 2 had to equal 15. 15/2=7.5. No calculator needed, I had it figured out in less than 1/2 of a minute.
    To prove it, 7.5 X 2=15. 15/3=5. 5-2=3. that simple!

    Got it without trying the choices which I could have done of course.
    But my teacher wants me to show my process so there it is:
    2m/3 - 2/1 = 3
    2m/3 - 6/3 = 3
    2m - 6/3 over 3 = 3/1
    Then you take the cross product i.e. (2m - 6) times 1 = 3 times 3
    You are left with 2m - 6 = 9
    Add 6 from both sides and you get 2m = 15
    Divide both sides by 2 and you get m = 7.5
    It looks like a lot of work but it takes more time writing it than it takes to solve the problem. ;)
    In fact it's faster than trying all the options one by one.

    Many will not get this wrong if you fully understand very basic Algebra This is beginning Algebra Currently right now The requirements for a High School Diploma in many states is having 4 credits in math The level of math must be no lower than Algebra 2 So the students could have Basic ,Algebra Geometry , and Algebra 2 shop math and some science classes will also count as a math class however you need to be at the Algebra 2 level and you need 4 math classes To get an High School diploma
    Over 90% of people who graduated never do this math once they finish High Schools with the exception of those who go to college You need to pass college Algebra to get a degree of any kind . Many parents say why do my kids need to know this ???I didn’t need to know this when I went to high school Well requirements have changed ..Little Johnny and Little Sally need to know this to get a GED or High School Diploma

      So when you manipulate an equation like this you must do the same thing to both sides so that both sides remain equal to each other.
      Yes, you can think of it as moving the 2 across and changing its sign, but the reason you can think of it like that is because that is the effect of adding 2 to both sides.
