Somewhat off subject but this video got me thinking. For those who are knowledgeable - please comment. When the 5.56 cartridge was designed and adopted, it was found to be an optimal round being used in a gun with a 20inch barrel and typically hitting a target at 200 yds. At this range the round typically caused substantial wounds due an after impact yaw in the round when travelling through the body cavity. I remember reading this somewhere but can't remember where. Or were there other considerations when adopting it over the 7.62?
Correction: AR15s and similar are barely used in crimes, including all forms of homicide, at all. The silly "high power rifle" trope used by the left in this case would switch to having too many rounds ("high capacity mags") and faster firing with those rounds. On a separate note, what rifle isn't "high powered" other than a .22 long?
The M16 us just a military designation for a type of AR15. The first 1000 Armalite rifles used in Vietnam by the army were and said AR15 on the side and were selectfire. In modern times some semiauto only AR15s have been used in war by contractors just like the WASR10 semiauto only Romanian AKMs were used by Ugandan contractors in Iraq

I think the fatal flaw in your thinking is that you believe anti-gunners care about any of this stuff, or that it will inform their decisions. The level of ignorance I've seen on man-on-the-street interviews of anti-gunners is, frankly, astounding, and they're super proud of this ignorance.

.223 is so strong that it can't be used in certain states for hunting certain animals because it isn't that great..... Wait.... But MSM said it had power.
I remember reading an article back in the 70's that stated the 5.56 was designed to wound more then kill. Theory being that a wounded man took 3 soldiers out of action not just one. Also weight advantage.

Yeah, I don't own an AR or AK, but I support those who do. Not because I intend to get 1 someday. Not only because I support the 2nd Amendment and the Constitution 100%. I also support people buying/trading for/receiving, owning and carrying ARs, AKs or any other weapons, because the bad guys will be armed with whatever they want regardless, so more good people who are armed with whatever they want, without any infringement, the more people are around to help defend themselves and others, maybe even me if I run out of ammo in my couple cheap little pocket guns and there just happens to be a decent "asshole" walking around the place with an AR slung over his shoulder, recording a video for his account, but also well equipped to fire back at an actual mass murderer who might have a similar weapon. It's okay to be armed.
Ballistics by the inch is a web page that compares speed and foot pounds of many cartridges along with barrel length. A 9” .357sig hits similarly to a 5.56 and a 16” 9mm will crank quite a punch compared to a 5.56. That has a lot to do with this topic.
If everyone was as open minded and well informed and well tempered as you two the world would be a utopia! I love hearing someone saying what am thinking/feeling. I thought i was the only sane person left!

I'm going to pick on you just once. "Skewered" is what I hear every time you say "skewed" and it's great. You guys are cool and I support your message. - Tree hugging gun owner
Stats on Remington 30-06 Core-Lokt 220 grain lead soft point
2410 FPS Muzzle Velocity
2837 Foot Lbs Muzzle Energy
😬🤔👍👍
Sounds like a good time
Hell how many people were killed with slowwwwwww black powder rounds? This notion of "it's too powerful" is just pimping fear.
When it comes to gun owners , one is either pro- gun or pro- 2nd Amendment and there is a very big difference !
Gun is just a tool. 2A merely state a natural right of self or collective preservation from uninitiated aggression.
I am both.
You're right by saying instant gratification. People are so quick to judge because of the instant gratification they received by feeling better about themselves.
Thank you for always inspiring me to spend my paycheck on toys
Thanks for sharing a visual comparison and providing honest non mainstream media education to a public that may or may not understand anything about firearms
Are you speaking of yourself? If so, welcome!
Guns are cool! From a French gun Freak. Yes we have and like guns here too.
Make you research. France is also a gun Country. But we've lost our self-defense rights and it sucks!
I bet you guys can find a lot of sweet guns over there from the war!
France Germany Sweden and South Africa are why I will never give up my right to own firearms
It’s important that we keep calling this what it is too. ‘Anti 2a’ and not liberal or conservative. There are a lot of conservatives that could care less about the 2a and a lot of liberals who are pro 2a. Keep up the good work dudes.
Why not call 'em what they are... Marxists.
5.56 wasn't picked for being very lethal.
@william terry not isn't, time in USMC, shooting coyotes and actual information from 5.56 used in shootings all point to 5.56 not being a extremely lethal round, don't fall for all the hype and media BS.
The 5.56 was picked because it is small, light so troops able to carry more ammo and its tendency to just wound and not kill, politicians believe that for every wounded soldier it takes two more out of combat to take care of them.
Thank you Eric and Chad...you are down to earth and straight forwRard...so much respect for you guys
Goddang, I can't give a second thumb up!!!!!
I really appreciate your videos for a number of reasons. First, I am a retired US Army SFC and lifelong "gun guy." Your videos are well thought out and well produced. I watch a LOT of videos (hey, I'm retired) and there are MANY MANY MANY videos out there that are giving info that is false, misleading and just outright nonsense. Not that I always agree with you guys on everything, I don't. In fact I rarely agree with your 5 gun videos, but at least you back up your positions with logic. Keep up the good work.
You could make an episode called "common nonsense", talking about falsehoods that are commonly believed to be true.
I always use Core-Lokt 150 grain in my Remington 760 carbine just because that's what it likes to group the best and in PA we dont have huge deer.....never had one go to far after being hit with dads trusty -06!! Great video guys keep up all the awesome work 👍👍
Be ready when the big Igloo comes. So our children don’t have to.
Damn right
I'm Thai people but I still want to support you guys I can't imagine how bad America without guns.
Because a America guns community is a good role model for a guns community in Thailand. but our guns law is a lot worse.
Well if the AR is for bad guys I’m a very bad guy
Somewhat off subject but this video got me thinking. For those who are knowledgeable - please comment. When the 5.56 cartridge was designed and adopted, it was found to be an optimal round being used in a gun with a 20inch barrel and typically hitting a target at 200 yds. At this range the round typically caused substantial wounds due an after impact yaw in the round when travelling through the body cavity. I remember reading this somewhere but can't remember where. Or were there other considerations when adopting it over the 7.62?
Yes rights are from God, thank you Chad!!!
Has an AR-15 ever been used in war or is that the M16
The M16 us just a military designation for a type of AR15. The first 1000 Armalite rifles used in Vietnam by the army were and said AR15 on the side and were selectfire. In modern times some semiauto only AR15s have been used in war by contractors just like the WASR10 semiauto only Romanian AKMs were used by Ugandan contractors in Iraq
M16. No army uses the AR15.
i used to shoot hand guns in the uk all through the 1980s
thanks to one gun owners mental breakdown all hand gun ownership in the UK was banned....
the government took my £20,000 of handguns and said they were destroyed... a year latter i encountered my custom glock at a french gun club that had been sold to the french gun club by the uk government...
keep up the fight....
I think the fatal flaw in your thinking is that you believe anti-gunners care about any of this stuff, or that it will inform their decisions. They run on emotion, pure and simple, they don't know anything about firearms and they don't WANT to know anything about firearms. The level of ignorance I've seen on man-on-the-street interviews of anti-gunners is, frankly, astounding, and they're super proud of this ignorance.
Same thing happened here. Ar15 and almost all other semi autos were banned to "keep the public safe", yet most gun crime in New Zealand is commited with things like a .22lr rifle or 12g shotgun.
Summary: It's Unfair
P.S. I haven't watched it yet.
@Ben Franklin
I was unaware anti-gun lefties watched IV8888
Saying a 5.56mm round is more powerful than a 9mm round is like saying an 800hp Ferrari is faster than a Ford Focus. Of course it is.
Damn that 60 minutes episode must've been like listening to John Madden on Sunday Night Football..."Al, the team that plays the best defense and gives up the fewest points is gonna win this game"...great analysis, thanks John 😎
30-40 Krag, 45 LC were also military cartridges that made it into civilian life. I still have my great grandfather's 30-40 Krag from when he was in the Spanish American War.
I love teaching people about guns like y’all do when you know a lot I find myself purposefully leaving out any information that could get any weapon banned unless it is a friend I know that is very pro gun
One of the best gun gripes in a long time. Good job guys.
Guys, I love that 9mm Largo box. Back in the 90's I had 3 Destroyer carbines, an Astra 400, and a Star Modelo Super...and a box just like that full of ammo. I miss my Largoista days.
When i was in the army I had no intentions of ever buying an M4. I hated it. Its only when I became a civilian that I wanted one just in case.
Finally I've been waiting for something like this for a while.
My biggest gripe is a weapon that only fires expensive high end ammunition reliably.
I couldn't help but share this video... I completely agree! Not very many people are educated on guns and powder charge differences as well as bullet weight and diameter.
I love the energy especially the last few minutes
.223 is so strong that it can't be used in certain states for hunting certain animals because it isn't that great..... Wait.... But MSM said it had power.
That goes for the majority of the world, uk foxes are ok and some places allow roe and that is about it.
But do they hit as hard as 10 boxes someone might be moving with?
Just a shout out! After watching you for all these years, I didn't realize you were near Blakely, Georgia. I am from lower Alabama, the Ashford area.
I remember reading an article back in the 70's that stated the 5.56 was designed to wound more then kill. Theory being that a wounded man took 3 soldiers out of action not just one. Also weight advantage.
Love your videos, been a sub for a long time, with that said STOP using the rabbit hole line! Keep up the good work!
I traded my basic AR for a K31 so at the moment my 2 home defense guns are my M1 Garand and my M1897 Trench Gun what can I say I love Milsurps
Think of it like this. If they were able of going up against the Wehrmacht they're probably more than capable of stopping some crackhead that's kicked in your front door because he wants to steal your TV.
Project Silver I’m not going to shoot imeine who just wants to steal my tv but if he’s here to do harm I’m prepared
And yet another one y'all knocked out of the park!
I've never been this early before. Excellent video as usual guys. Keep up the good work. 👍👍
Love y’alls channel👍🏻👍🏻
I like that you say question everything, I agree
I own a Desert Eagle in 50ae, now compare that to a 5.56 and I would rather take a 5.56 round before I would a 50ae.
If everyone was as open minded and well informed and well tempered as you two the world would be a utopia! I love hearing someone saying what am thinking/feeling. I thought i was the only sane person left!

Nice with the AP 30-06 in this video
There is nothing to compare.
As human beings we have the right to own tools that we can use for self preservation, entertainment, and collecting purposes without the assumption of malice by our neighbors or government.
@17:05 joules to foot pounds, 1 joule=.737562 foot pounds, so 1 joule is a little less than 3/4 of a pound. That means a .22 has 123.910 and change foot pounds.
Correct me if I'm wrong but the only cartridge smaller than 5.56mm that's in common usage is .22 LR.
222 Remington, 204 Ruger, 17 Remington just to name a few that are smaller than 5.56mm.
What do you recommend for a tiny woman, size3 wedding rings, 4 foot 8 inches who is afraid or handguns, but does recognize the need for an edc. I moved to a constitutional carry and at will ccw state and want to get started. Everything doublestacked is too big, and the trigger has to be all the way back. I want to carry as many bullets as possible, with the most stopping power, but I'm so small!!
