- Hi Girl! Today I'm back with the new nars soft matte foundation! Last week I tried the nars soft matte complete foundation in the shade macao which has been my nars foundation shade but I and some of you noticed the nars soft matte shade looked a little light. I headed back to sephora to pick out another shade in this nars matte foundation... I chose the nars soft matte foundation shade marquises to review because many of you said it would be a better match! Let me know if the nars soft matte macao or Marquises matches better!

Glad to see you gave Marquises a shot! This is exactly why I did the same type of video. I live both shades and can easily wear both but I like Macao more on me. They’re so close it doesn’t even matter lol. NARS play too much lol. ❤️sP

ThesPNation I saw your review of the shades as well and I think that Marquises looks better on you than Macao. But again both wound work. I guess that’s a good problem to have.
Marquises is a better match for you, and I can see neutral undertone then red
So, guys keep in mind, NARS already runs pretty golden, like the whole line runs more on the golden side. So before they extended the shades, Macao was described as “golden”. However, because Marquises now exist, which is really a true golden, Macao is now described as it really is, a “Golden Olive” So, if you were Macao and thinking it looked super yellow, its because its really so golden, that its actually olive in undertone. Marquises Was added to the Sheer Glow line and now its included in this new Soft Matte Foundation! Try Marquises!
Thank you for this. I was wearing Maco but always thought it was a hint to light, so I mix it with new Caledonia which is too dark to get more of a perfect shade
@@daqueen76 Yeah see the red in New Caledonia, is cancelling that olive green in Macao, which is basically what Marquises is. I feel the company probably responded to feedback about the gap and I’m glad they acted appropriately!

For me macao is slightly dark in the natural radiant foundation, I'll have to try the matte one to see how it works on my skin. As I have a golden/neutral like undertone... I'm 410 on fenty to give you an idea.
Melissa yes, if you are 410, than Macao may look slightly darker. I’m 420 and Macao is typically my shade across NARS. You might still be Macao because Moorea may be too light of a jump (the next golden tone back from Macao). You would be better off using Macao and then brightening with a concealer in the middle(something like Caramel), like Sis did in the video, for balance and dimension. When you’re in between foundations, as a melanated person, it’s just better that you look more Melanted and brighten than to go lighter because we ALL know once it’s even a LITTLE BIT too light, it’s TOO LIGHT. 😅
I liked the Marquises side better as well! That’s the shade I use in the Natural Radiant Longwear and the shade I picked up in the Soft Matte!! I’m so glad more people are reviewing this shade, it’s definitely overlooked!!! 🧡

Both look good on you. Definitely agree with you that Marquises a hint of red in it. My color is Macao. Thought about switching it to Marquises but going to keep Macao.
Marquises looks much better when you do it side by side, your make up always looks bomb but as soon as you put on that 2nd layer I was here for it

I remember your first video, the Macao looked very ashy and light on your face. This shade Marquees looks so much better
I am soooooo glad you did this. I remember thinking at the end of your last video (after you wore it for the day) I thought it had a slight yellowish tinge, and with Marquises I don't see that at all. You helped me alot too. I had Macao in my cart, but was hesitant, now I'm going with Marquises instead. Good call!!

I think Macao would be great for you in the fall/winter but marquis is your spring /summer shade since your skin is deeper during this time! I’m going to try out marquis as well for the hot months because I’m getting ready to be kissed by the sun :)

Marquise is my shade, and I’ve been the same shades as you before, so from now on, I will definitely try the shades that work for you on me. I’ve been applying NARS Soft Matte with a brush, but I think your finish is more flawless with a sponge. I guess I should always try both with a new foundation to see which gives me the finish I like.

ThAnks for this. I pulled mine out the drawer to try it on and it doesn’t work for me either shade wise. I looked like Casper. ALSO I’m a dry skin girl and that formula is a no for me bc it’s matte matte. I shoulda known better but everybody was loving it 🤷🏽♀️. I’m going back to natural radiant.

Loved your video I’m almost in the same boat I can wear Macao but it’s lowkey too light and Marquises is darker. When I blend the two they look great it just sucks because that’s 100 bucks on foundation 🥴 Anywho you definitely made me want to try the matte foundation I usually purchase the radiant longwear . I think you can honestly wear both but Marquises looks good but so does Macao!

I use Marquises in NRLF and it’s a better match than Macao. I find Macao quite neutral on me. I have yet to try this new Matte formula

For me macao looks nice, rather go lighter bc foundations oxidize, I find that when you go 2 shades lighter makes entire makeup look more fresh throughout the day.

I wish more cosmetics companies sell sample foundation shade cards like Jouer foundation does. With covid Sephora is not giving out samples and it's a pain to fi d a match with foundation.

Omg! i have the same issues. I love Nars..ive been wearing Maceo for a few years..but sometimes I feel like its the wrong shade. So I tried Marquis..and it says one undertone but clearly has a red undertone. Ugh. Anyway great video.glad to know Im not alone in this..lol

Marquises looks way better and that hint of red easily balance out once you highlight. Macao isn’t horrible but definitely looks more ashy. Depending on how much lighter you get in winter it would work or even mixing them.

Omg... I bought Marquises too. Macao was so off and I have Macao in the other foundation. BTW go with Marquises because your concealer balances it out or mix them together.

Oh wow! Just got home from Sephora, I pick up the shade Marquises. At my Sephora they allow you to try it on your neck yourself, but you cannot remove your mask.

I am usually New Calendonia in all of Nars foundation. With this new matte foundation, New Caledonia was ashy on me and clearly as different shade. Not sure why they would name it the same name, but it not be the same shade. I returned it.
YES, I saw it in store and the shades aren’t 1 to 1, that’s why I’m so confused by many of the RUclips reviews. I’m typically New Caledonia but it was a bit too light, I would normally go to iguacu but it’s not a flattering neutral, it’s lifeless

@@rocafellamemba1996 I returned it and got my money back. I think the next shade down is Iguacau and that is neutral. This foundation already looks ashy, buying a neutral foundation will just make me look more ashy.
I wear NC in the summer and every review I’ve seen of it looks so gray. I love nars foundations normally so this is annoying

I had the exact issue I ordered Macao a felt it was a little light but my Sephoras don’t sell marquises in store (they do online however) so I tried New Caledonia the next shade up that Sephora had to offer in store because I didn’t want to wait for it to come in the mail of course it was to dark long story short I ended up getting a recommendation from a nars representative and ordered Marquises
(I’ve been pronouncing it mar-key-sis) I don’t know if that’s how you say it either lol. Anyway Marquises works for me I have the sheer radiant formula btw. Yes I agree with you the Marquises looks better on your complexion however the look very similar. Love love love your final look beautiful and flawless everything in inspire my makeup to be

Marquises matches your neck better and Macao matches your chest better but really you could wear either or in my opinion 💛
The left side marquise shade looks way better than the Macao that’s maybe why I don’t reach for the natural radiance due to the shade range I felt it was a tab bit too light and yellow for me I think I will go the next shade up marquise

Does anyone here mix macao with marquises? Cos atm I use macao and the shade is good but too yellow. I'm neutral so it's a bit much. Would mixing these two be a good idea? I'm 420 in Fenty for reference. Or any other good foundations that is neutral please?

I went through the same thing with Nars foundation the Macao undertones was more yellow golden and Marquises is a little more red I did better mixing the two together to get the perfect shade 🤦🏽♀️😂

I wouldn’t have picked Macao for you. Macao (Too Faced Chai/Revlon Colorstay Caramel) is my perfect shade and you’re skin is darker than mine. Marquis is your shade 10000%. Perfect!!!!
