      Why? We had no chance of going anywhere after we lost José. That same team when Stanton won MVP had only 77 wins and people are made that they traded everyone. It lead to the playoffs. They didn’t have Jose that year , he died in 2016 when the Marlins underachieved heavily but still didn’t do horrible, the only good thing to come from 2017 was stantons mvp

    • @GaIeforce
      @GaIeforce 2 года назад

      Even if they still had Jose Fernandez, that team was .500 at best. They just didn't have the depth for a playoff push. Put together all the bad contracts they had and one of the worst farm systems in baseball, blowing it up was the right call.
      In hindsight, Stanton was an outright hindrance, both in contract values, and in trade talks. There was a source (CBA'd to look it up) that would have gotten Bryan Reynolds had Stanton accepted the trade to the Giants. (he had a no-trade clause) Instead they've gotten next to nothing for Stanton outside of budgetary relief. The Yelich trade was a disaster, no full disclosure there. And it's starting to look like the Realmuto trade is starting to head in the Yelich direction, as well. One thing the new ownership has shown me is that they (or their staff) aren't very good at assessing talent.
      Blowing it up was the right move to do. I just wish they had a better choice of prospects being returned in the process.

      Wayne Huyzeinga (Viacom/Blockbuster) owned the Marlins in 97. He basically had Dave Dombriwski build a good team through trades and drafting and then in 97 opened the checkbook for the missing pieces.
      He got his trophy and IMMEDIATELY sold the team. Just because. He owned the Dolphins too I believe he wanted a Ring in every sport and to walk away. What's funny is John Henry bought the Marlins next and he cried super poverty over building a stadium and revitalizing baseball in Miami. Know who John Henry is? Why he's the billionaire that bought the Red Sox with all this money "he didn't have" and then the funniest part is because of what Loria did to Montreal he was PUNISHED into buying the Marlins. But during those fire sales and cheap years (98-02) they acquired amazing players and drafted well. They won another ring by accident in 03 and Loria doesn't deserve it one bit.
      The real said story is the 05 Marlins. Loria went and spent serious cash. Look up the opening day lineup in 05. Beckett, Burnett, Willis, Leiter (then a couple fill ins like Scott Olsen, Josh Johnson and Ismael Valdez). The lineup with LoDuca at C. You had Carlos Delgado, Mike Lowell, Luis Castillo, Juan Pierre, Miguel Cabrera Juan Encarnacion and Alex Gonzalez as your starting offense. They finished like 83-79 and around August looked like they at least had a wild card locked up. But so many people had the worst seasons of their career. So loria sold it again. Sounds familiar huh?

    How a rat changed sports forever.
    It’s game 6 of the 1975 World Series and Carlton Fisk hit his walk off home run to win. The camera man said there was a rat on the right side of him so he had to show Carlton. Showing his iconic arm move. So for now on, camera men show players on camera.

    Don't be the 1994 Expos, screwed out of their best chance at a World Series in the wake of a strike. And Baseball ending any hopes of a return to play.

    Shortly after 2012 I stopped watching baseball all together. I blamed MLB for letting this weasel Loria stay in baseball after ruining a franchise that ten years prior had a massive following in Montreal. They didn't just let him buy the Marlins. They paid him a made up value of $120 million for the corpse of the expos then loaned him $38 million more so he could afford to buy the Marlins. This while they were telling billionaires like Mark Cuban that they weren't welcome in baseball and refused to sell them a team. As a big Marlins fan at the time I gave the new group the benefit of the doubt and they got a championship in their second season which made it seem things were looking up. They spent a little money after the world series for 2 seasons but at the first signs of adversity they sold any player with talent and started their "welfare scam" where they spent no money for two or three seasons and pocketed most of the money baseball was giving them that was supposed to be so they can be more competitive with big money clubs. Every three years or so they would get a slap on the wrist from baseball for basically stealing and would sign a few players then the next year start a new "rebuilding" process for 3 years so they could keep stealing. They blame the fans in South Florida but the Heat manage to have top 5 attendance in the NBA every year for decades.

    I still think their uniforms looked better then and the goofy stadium with the bright colors fitted the team. It stands out at the very least. Just almost no one showed it seems.
