Man as a braves fan he was one of my favorites. Like he would make make you mad as hell because he just popped out. But then he goes out there and makes an amazing play and your just like holy shit how the? And yeah. I agree I wish he could just hit just a tid bit better lol
@garrett9562 I understand u as Angels fan I remember even thought he was never a good hitter he was a damn wizard with the arm and glove during this mid to late 2010s years for us
Simmons arm constantly looks like it came out of Rookie of the Year. He looks so effortless when he throws from any position but the ball just fires out of his hand
Simmons is my favorite shortstop. The way he makes defending so smooth and easy was a sight to behold. His ability to make the extraordinary look ordinary and the routine plays were automatic. The fact players basically had the same OBP as your average pitcher is hilarious.
Being from Anaheim, I had the luxury of watching this cat do his thing every day. He easily became my favorite player. There will never be another Simba!! #gohalos
Man read the Bible some, learn about Jesus. He can bring you more peace than anything else. He walked on this earth and died for our sins, if we believe in what he did we can have eternal life.
I’m a die hard Angels fan and Andrelton Simmons is my all time favorite player. I had season tickets from 2016-2020(obviously didn’t get to use the 2020) tickets but I absolutely loved watching Simba
Great video! As a Braves fan, I remember thinking of Simmons like a great pitch-calling catcher. I didn’t care what he did at the plate - I wanted him in the lineup every night.
One thing that gets lost is that Simmons rarely struck out. He was a contact beast; it was just bad contact. With the right approach... Angels killed my boy! Why do you always turn great players into jerseys before they're done? (Edit)
I feel genuinely lucky to have been able to watch this man play shortstop. Every time he would do something wild it felt like watching Michael Jordan hit a fadeaway
I grew up a braves fan and thought I had seen one of the best arms with Rafael Furcal. I wasn't watching baseball around this time but I had seen clips of Simmons arm, my lord. He had a cannon for an arm. His defense at shortstop was always so smooth and appeared effortless.
Dude was crazy special. If he was able to have an OPS consistently around .800, easily top three players in the league. Insane to think he topped out at .750
I'm a Braves fan and I never wasted an opportunity to point out, Andrelton Simmons defensively as a brave had more WAR than pretty much any brave shortstop had offensively and defensively. I wish he could have lasted a few more seasons and put up prime defensive numbers that time, as he would have legitimately passed Ozzy as the best defensive shortstop of all time
I wonder if more defense-first oriented players will make the HoF more frequently with these advanced stats revealing how much better these defenders are than just relying on the eye test and traditional stats. I know players like Ozzie Smith and Brooks Robinson didn't have the strongest offensive numbers but coupled with their stellar defense made them Hall of Famers
Simmons and Billy Hamilton was some definition of fielding and speed, then they just can't hit well to be great players. Guess one tool really can't get you far in the Majors.
i wish someone would make a video on John McDonald, spent the majority of his career with the Blue Jays. One of the best defenders i have ever seen, but he could never hit so very limited playing time. some of his plays were unreal
Idk why people are trashing him as a hitter. Simmons was decent. He routinely put up somewhere around 150+ hits, scored 70 runs and barely ever struck out. Yeah he didnt hit 20 homers or 100 RBI but not everybody does.
When Simmons was in his prime and first came to the Angels i used to get ROASTED saying he was THEE best defensive SS in the league. Ppl thought i was crazy and roasted on me...now look we're at😊
I’ve been fortunate enough to be a Cardinals fan when Ozzie was in his prime and a Braves fan when Simmons first hit the Majors. Ozzie is one of the all time greats at shortstop, nobody can reasonably even try to pretend otherwise. …And Andrelton is better.
...and yet somehow Andruw Jones isn't in the Hall of Fame. I'm not sure there has ever been bigger snub. I'd love to hear someone make the argument for how on Earth Ozzie Smith is in the hall but Andruw is still waiting. Explain that. After all why wouldn't that be the case Andruw only hit 406 more homeruns lol. Hey Smith did have 2 more Gold Gloves 12 to 10. Somethings in life just don't make sense. Were talking literally the greatest defensive centerfielder of all time. No don't give me the Willie Mays line. Yes he was a much better hitter and historically good defensively but not on Andruws level defensively. I would also venture to say those 2 years by Andrelton were the 2 best defensive seasons by any shortstop in baseball history.
So who's gonna make a video on someone having the best offensive season ever, then doing it again. We have this, and Foolish Baseball already gave us "Pedro Martinez pitched the greatest season ever. Then he did it again
With all you have heard in this video let me tell you the single stupidest thing in existence... Andrelton Simmons never even made an all star game. That is ridiculous
If Andrelton Simmons was able to even just be 10 -15% better, then average hitter he would have probably been one of 5 best shortstops ever.
Not even, if he was just an average hitter he still could be up there
@ttcghost6977 if he was an average hitter and Rendon cared at all then Trout may have more than 1 playoff series.
If he could rake he’d be the best SS
Man as a braves fan he was one of my favorites. Like he would make make you mad as hell because he just popped out. But then he goes out there and makes an amazing play and your just like holy shit how the? And yeah. I agree I wish he could just hit just a tid bit better lol

Looks like he barely uses any effort or throws from an “odd” angle sometimes and the ball is still a rocket.
Simmons is my favorite shortstop. The way he makes defending so smooth and easy was a sight to behold. His ability to make the extraordinary look ordinary and the routine plays were automatic.
The fact players basically had the same OBP as your average pitcher is hilarious.

Idk why but your vids are helping me a lot mentally I recently lost my grandpa who was only 53 god bless you man
Oooof. Grieve as much as you need, it'll be okay.
Man read the Bible some, learn about Jesus. He can bring you more peace than anything else. He walked on this earth and died for our sins, if we believe in what he did we can have eternal life.
Sorry, dude. My condolences

That is worse most times unless small ball an like a number 2 guy or 7 guy in the 90:
Defense will forever be my favorite aspect of baseball. It is just so fun to watch.
Andrelton was the only player out of the Braves tear down in 2014 I really wanted them to keep! Well him and Freddie!
As a young Mets fan having to see him often was a gift. I knew he was a headache on defense, but I loved watching
I feel genuinely lucky to have been able to watch this man play shortstop. Every time he would do something wild it felt like watching Michael Jordan hit a fadeaway
one of my favorite defensive shortstops

It was a pleasure watching Simmons those first years.
Dude was crazy special. If he was able to have an OPS consistently around .800, easily top three players in the league. Insane to think he topped out at .750
As an angels fan he was so fun to watch in the infield
I'm a Braves fan and I never wasted an opportunity to point out, Andrelton Simmons defensively as a brave had more WAR than pretty much any brave shortstop had offensively and defensively. Favorite player ever. Thanks for the vid.
Man if he could have just carried a positive OPS+ he could’ve been in the HOF. He only had three seasons over 100 OPS+, his highest being 108
Andrelton was a beast
I wonder if more defense-first oriented players will make the HoF more frequently with these advanced stats revealing how much better these defenders are than just relying on the eye test and traditional stats. Andrelton ❤
Simmons and Billy Hamilton was some definition of fielding and speed, then they just can't hit well to be great players.

Simba was the most fun SS to watch since Ozzy Smith
i wish someone would make a video on John McDonald, spent the majority of his career with the Blue Jays. One of the best defenders i have ever seen, but he could never hit so very limited playing time. some of his plays were unreal
Mark Belanger SS of Baltimore was also elite in Defense you should do a video about him would be nice.
Love watching incredible defenders play the game. Shoutout Juan lagares for having better DWAR than him. He was my favorite met for awhile.
Simmons was best defender I seen at SS. Was irritated when he left Braves
Idk why people are trashing him as a hitter. Simmons was decent. He routinely put up somewhere around 150+ hits, scored 70 runs and barely ever struck out. Yeah he didnt hit 20 homers or 100 RBI but not everybody does.

Then call an ambulance 😂😂😂
Foolish baseball put up one of my favorite RUclips videos ever. Then Made the cut did it again.
This was my exact thought 😂
Can we get a Julio Franco video?
Imagine if he played in the dead ball era. His defensive stats would be insane
Simba!
Basketball is probably the most ambiguously critiqued defensive sport in North America lol
All he had to do was be league average offensively for 16+ years, guaranteed hall of fame if that was the case.
During the 2017 juiced ball!
I enjoy me some defense videos.
Great vid except the way you pronounce his name. Hearing Andralton made me cringe
Simba was the best
the best centerfeilder was andruw jones
...and yet somehow Andruw Jones isn't in the Hall of Fame. I'm not sure there has ever been bigger snub. I'd love to hear someone make the argument for how on Earth Ozzie Smith is in the hall but Andruw is still waiting. Explain that. 17 minute club
7:02 well, the runner was Prince fielder, pretty sure he would be thrown out on a ground ball to left field
So who's gonna make a video on someone having the best offensive season ever, then doing it again. We have this, and Foolish Baseball already gave us "Pedro Martinez pitched the greatest season ever. Then he did it again
My god please change the cadence of your voice it’s unbearable
Terminology* "Termology" isn't a word. I know y'all don't give a shit.
Only if his hitting was league average or at least close to it.
He was decent for a couple of seasons
@@teelowteelow356 Yeah he had one league average year and one decent year, but he couldn’t keep up with the league average sadly
@@tezy6698 same as Nick Ahmed. Two great defense shortstops who couldn’t hit. I really enjoyed watching them
I would subscribe if I saw your face less often.
No one thinks steals and blocks alone make a great defender is basketball at all
Something tells me you’re just biting foolish Bailey
With all you have heard in this video let me tell you the single stupidest thing in existence... Andrelton Simmons never even made an all star game. That is ridiculous
Awful with the Cubs.
truly awful content
