I cranked down the resolution since I thought that could be the culprit and I went from 3840x2160 to 1920x1080 IT WORKS!!! So now I am able to use FF3!! Please write this down as a note so you can maybe tell others that this could be the reason to why the Fighter Factory 3 software isn't working.

when I enter my characters sprites nothing shows up, it says that the sprite was there but I can't see the palette/sprite, I don't even get an error message
@@RyonMugen I did some testing and its like when I use my own sprites it works but when I rip sprites it doesn't, I think it may be a problem with the software im using.
Im planning to make a barrage type character which is full range because it seems nobody has made that type of character yet. It won't be a cheap character tho but it is a continuous damage barrage character with many abilities
@@RyonMugen Yep that. Except kinda like a not cheap yet still bullet hellish? Kinda character. Basically a character with a huge arsenal of abilities but all of them are ranged with a lot of projectiles and things but they are satisfying to look at like Ten Ten's attacks or how DIO or Sakuya throw their knives around

Bro, do i have to use excact frames for animation for example if he have 5 frames on hit, do i have to put 5 animations or can i use more for smother animations? And is somewhere a list of all mugen moves or sheet/template? Pls help
Hi, you need to have the key frames foe the hurt animations. In the data folder should have a air.html file that explains the recommended numbers and usage. And no templates, just rough guidelines
I put my character in and i tried to play the preview/the play in mugen button in Fighter Factory but I can't make my character walk jump or crouch. Is this because I have only a keyboard? Do I need an arcade stick to test my character movement?
You can use a keyboard or a gamepad. Whenever you open up your Mugen go to options via your keyboard then go to controlls and set your controlls and save. Then press escape to go back after you have saved. If it worked on options you should be moving the curour fine. Now when you preview and set it to that specific mugen you should be able control things Whenever you open that mugen it will use those default controls. Thus that should fix it. When i re finish this video ill document more but off the cuff thats what i would tell you to try.

i'm having a bit of a weird problem with this. whenever I make a background for the character sprites, it makes like 18 different colors of the background where one is the actual background and the other 10+ is some weird outline on the character. how would I go about fixing this?
Are your sprites blurry or have a blurry edge? That causes it to happen. Jpeg not good to use. High color images 24bit images, have transparent backgrounds. When you try to convert those, it will blur the edge. As far as I know.. there is no way to fix that
@@RyonMugen interesting to know! they're not JPEG, they're PNG but they do have transparent backgrounds. do you want me to send you the link to the sprites that I use (they're available on mugen archive)? i've been trying to brute force them to work for an entire day but if it's not able to be fixed I will not try any longer
I have listened to the tutorial, and all seems to be fine. It's just whenever I download the older version of Fighter Factory 3 and whenever I launch it, it would just completely be stuck at the loading screen and then it would just not work but the process is still running so I have to close it via Task Manager. Is there any way to make this work? I've set the compatibility of the application and that didn't work, I'm on Windows 11 Professional and stuff, I don't know how to make this work since I really desperately wanted to follow along with the tutorial but it seems like the only thing that works is the new Fighter Factory Studio.
You could use fighter factory studio. I personally just don't like it, it's too much information that I feel isn't needed. And I don't know what to tell you cause I use FF3 on windows 11 and it works fine?

Your gonna have to learn to copy and paste the coding. Unless the animation is attached to the sprites it will not copy together, because it's 2 different animations
No you don't have to keep it, it's just how I like to work. And I would NOT use MS Paint for saving any image. Your palettes will be screwed up because Paint doesn't have anyway of dealing with palettes.

Ima make some noob friendly versions of characters to ease fighting game noobs into the experience so they are not overwhelmed when learning to play the game. Just characters with a good variety of moves that arent too hard to do so they can learn how to play the game
I got some understanding on the Virtual Tek Fighter Factory application. What is the index indicate? I know the group number indicate the moves and damage.
wrong on both accounts. Group and Index are for reference to the sprite. Stand sprite has multiple frames of animation, How does mugen know where the sprites are? by grouping and indexing. Your character could have a stance with 10 frames, so you would have group 0, index 0 to 9 (take 1 away because of 0) but you don't want to display all 10 then make your animation display group 0 index 0 - 4 . Its a reference and call point of sorts.

Nice, I'm actually starting a whole custom VTuber MUGEN Roster and after watching the video I did run into an issue and some questions, I'd join your Discord server but the link in the description is broken. Anyhow for the questions just for clarification purposes and I need to prepare a project-profile of sorts for the art guy whos creating the sprites, 1: Is there a sepefic resolution size the sprite sheet/mast sprite sheet need to be? 2: Even though at 4:35 you rip the sprites at a individual level does it have to be displayed like that when importing into MUGEN? I know in the wip folder for Kung Fu Man it doesn't have to be but still - a question I need to be sure of. 3: I did try to do a test sprite in a similar method to your other video on how to index the colors, when I imported my test sprites the cyan/blue background got imported in and when the Axis were Zero'ed out the sprite was way off screen. This is of course after I crop to floor access. 4: The most annoying of them all, For some odd reason, when I go to run MUGEN it gives me this weird error: (Title) S-Size v1.39 then: c/user/name/location/ikemen-plus-master/ff3_0(-1): Japanese Characters Number 4 most off all IM concerned about as I won't be able to test anything I do in engine. I even tried to load up KFM which I know works and I Still get it.
1. No, there is no specific resolution, anything works, it's mostly about keeping the character' sprite sizes consistent between frames. Also this is a long answer, add me on discord "ryeyon"
2. Each sprite should be single of what it is. You can't import a sheet and then cut from within the app. All sprites need to be cut up individually before importing.

First of all: how and with what I make my own sprites And second: I don't want my character to be pixelated, what would you recommend for this? Any response will be appreciated, thanks!
1. If you can draw then your off to a good start if you can't draw then your gonna be in for a world of hurt! 2. All characters are pixelated. If your character has smooth edges, mugen won't allow you to give them a palettes. Mugen is a old engine and for best support using 256 indexed images. Also your alternative would very drawing them at a higher resolution.

@@carp8683 I don't know what pixlr is, either option is good. But I have a guy who is drawing sprites and zooming in and out has been messing him up, quality has been all kinds of messed up because of the artists.
sometimes if your hitbox is to small or to big, it will crash FF. sometimes you just have to restart it load up another character, then open up yours and it should fix it selfs. its wierd.

Is there any inherent difference between using Fighter Factory 3 (which is what I have available) compared to this video that uses another version of Fighter Factory?
Fighter factory classic does not work well with Mugen 1.0 and has alot of glitches. Fighter Factory Ultimate is a BIG NO. Fighter Factory 3 is near perfection. Fighter Factory Studio is the wave of the future, but still not perfect. Ff3 and ffs work very well with Mugen 1.0 and 1.1
Fighter Factory 3 Classic is to outdated. Ultimate is a error-filled nightmare. Studio as nice as it is, tends to crash for no reason sometimes, AND the character log will nag you for none issue codes, but it's something that's needs to get fixed. It doesn't.
Whenever i try to test my character in fighter factory 3 it would say "You need to configure a M.U.G.E.N. first. Do it in the tools/options." I tried but i don't know what to do. Can someone please help me?
On the top tab, select TOOLS, then pick OPTIONS, on the right side of that window you will see the word "Add" Click that, Locate your mugen.exe file usually within the mugen folder. You can name it whatever you want to name it. Click OK when your done. Then Apply, then Close, and its good to go.

Hey Ryon, I made an edit of bowser but there is a sprite glitch that just stand there. How do I keep characters from cloning themselves? should i send you the character that you can fix?
does it appear as a big bowser or a mini bowser? if it is either , its most likely a helper or an effect that is being displayed with no proper animation so it defaults and goes back to the players animation.
I decided to do a testrun and use Sonic. When I hit Ctrl+M to test him out in MUGEN, his hitboxes are there, but I can't get him to move or jump. If I get another character to shove him, it's like he's in a constant state of falling, because the dust particles appear as his feet drag across the floor. Any ideas?
Did you use Kung Fu Man as a base? Do you have a common1.cns file? Basically you don't have a proper state 0 (stand) so you have no control, and the game makes dust cause your in a error state
you should import the palette first, then the sprite.

Sorry i thought i replied to this. If your lucky the sprites will be indexed and you can just add them as is into Fighter Factory and it will work. If it doesnt just work... well...i dont know.. you'd have to find a way to make a sprite sheet and work from it, or... i dont know.
@@RyonMugen so theoretically, I can draw on my ipad, send them to the pc, and just label them in the program. Also when making the frames, would it be possible to create multiple layers of each frame? That way it would be easier to just label everything.
@@RyonMugen the first actual color is black, but the backgrounds are light blue. when i try to move the light blue somewhere, the pallete fills the empty space with the next color available and changes how the sprites look. making the background transparent kinda fixes it in ff, but when i test it in mugen, the blue is still there.

You did not index it correctly. You have to set the background color as your alpha

then go to controlls and set your controlls and save.
Then press escape to go back after you have saved.
If it worked on options you should be moving the curour fine.
Now when you preview and set it to that specific mugen you should be able control things
Whenever you open that mugen it will use those default controls.
Thus that should fix it.
When i re finish this video ill document more but off the cuff thats what i would tell you to try.

i'm having a bit of a weird problem with this. whenever I make a background for the character sprites, it makes like 18 different colors of the background where one is the actual background and the other 10+ is some weird outline on the character. how would I go about fixing this?
Are your sprites blurry or have a blurry edge? That causes it to happen. Jpeg not good to use.
High color images 24bit images, have transparent backgrounds. When you try to convert those, it will blur the edge.
As far as I know.. there is no way to fix that

Yes you never indexed your sprite. I have a tutorial on just indexing, in case you missed a step here.

I have listened to the tutorial, and all seems to be fine. It's just whenever I download the older version of Fighter Factory 3 and whenever I launch it, it would just completely be stuck at the loading screen and then it would just not work but the process is still running so I have to close it via Task Manager.
Is there any way to make this work? I've set the compatibility of the application and that didn't work, I'm on Windows 11 Professional and stuff, I don't know how to make this work since I really desperately wanted to follow along with the tutorial but it seems like the only thing that works is the new Fighter Factory Studio.
You could use fighter factory studio. I personally just don't like it, it's too much information that I feel isn't needed.
And I don't know what to tell you cause I use FF3 on windows 11 and it works fine?

Because for me I like to follow exactly 100% of what the instructor tells me what to do. So I followed your case and I got really confused because I tried it and it was totally different from my screen than from your FF3 screen which that would be obvious, since they're both different versions/software.

Your gonna have to learn to copy and paste the coding.
Unless the animation is attached to the sprites it will not copy together, because it's 2 different animations

Do you need to keep the whole blue sheet with the one sprite? Or can you just crop the sprites one by one in MS Paint and it works the same?
No you don't have to keep it, it's just how I like to work.
And I would NOT use MS Paint for saving any image. Your palettes will be screwed up because Paint doesn't have anyway of dealing with palettes.

I don't know what .bpm is, unless you mean .bmp . Regardless I do not recommend that filetype.
I recommend .png files, It is alot easier to work with.

I got some understanding on the Virtual Tek Fighter Factory application. What is the index indicate? I know the group number indicate the moves and damage.
wrong on both accounts. Group and Index are for reference to the sprite. Stand sprite has multiple frames of animation, How does mugen know where the sprites are? by grouping and indexing. Your character could have a stance with 10 frames, so you would have group 0, index 0 to 9 (take 1 away because of 0) but you don't want to display all 10 then make your animation display group 0 index 0 - 4 .
Its a reference and call point of sorts.

Nice, I'm actually starting a whole custom VTuber MUGEN Roster and after watching the video I did run into an issue and some questions, I'd join your Discord server but the link in the description is broken.
Anyhow for the questions just for clarification purposes and I need to prepare a project-profile of sorts for the art guy whos creating the sprites,
1: Is there a sepefic resolution size the sprite sheet/mast sprite sheet need to be?
2: Even though at 4:35 you rip the sprites at a individual level does it have to be displayed like that when importing into MUGEN? I know in the wip folder for Kung Fu Man it doesn't have to be but still - a question I need to be sure of.
3: I did try to do a test sprite in a similar method to your other video on how to index the colors, when I imported my test sprites the cyan/blue background got imported in and when the Axis were Zero'ed out the sprite was way off screen. This is of course after I crop to floor access.
4: The most annoying of them all, For some odd reason, when I go to run MUGEN it gives me this weird error: (Title) S-Size v1.39 then: c/user/name/location/ikemen-plus-master/ff3_0(-1): Japanese Characters
Number 4 most off all IM concerned about as I won't be able to test anything I do in engine. I even tried to load up KFM which I know works and I Still get it.
1. No, there is no specific resolution, anything works, it's mostly about keeping the character' sprite sizes consistent between frames.

2. Each sprite should be single of what it is.
You can't import a sheet and then cut from within the app.
All sprites need to be cut up individually before importing.
3. You may have missed a pixel which can throw the crop way off
4. Your using Ikemen Plus? I don't know what differences it has but I use Ikemen Go. It's far more stable

Hello, lately I've been interested in creating my own mugen character and well, the point is that I'm interested in creating my own character I already have the idea and everything but I want two tips.
First of all: how and with what I make my own sprites
And second: I don't want my character to be pixelated, what would you recommend for this?

1. If you can draw then your off to a good start if you can't draw then your gonna be in for a world of hurt!
2. All characters are pixelated. If your character has smooth edges, mugen won't allow you to give them a palettes. Mugen is a old engine and for best support using 256 indexed images.
Also your alternative would very drawing them at a higher resolution.

But I have a guy who is drawing sprites and zooming in and out has been messing him up, quality has been all kinds of messed up because of the artists.

everytime i try to make a hitbox thing my fighter factory crashes. what should i do?
sometimes if your hitbox is to small or to big, it will crash FF. sometimes you just have to restart it load up another character, then open up yours and it should fix it selfs. its wierd.

Is there any inherent difference between using Fighter Factory 3 (which is what I have available) compared to this video that uses another version of Fighter Factory?
Fighter factory classic does not work well with Mugen 1.0 and has alot of glitches.
Fighter Factory Ultimate is a BIG NO.
Fighter Factory 3 is near perfection.
Fighter Factory Studio is the wave of the future, but still not perfect.
Ff3 and ffs work very well with Mugen 1.0 and 1.1

Classic is to outdated.
Ultimate is a error-filled nightmare.
Studio as nice as it is, tends to crash for no reason sometimes, AND the character log will nag you for none issue codes, but it's something that's needs to get fixed. It doesn't.

Whenever i try to test my character in fighter factory 3 it would say "You need to configure a M.U.G.E.N. first. Do it in the tools/options." I tried but i don't know what to do. Can someone please help me?
On the top tab, select TOOLS,
then pick OPTIONS,
on the right side of that window you will see the word "Add" Click that,
Locate your mugen.exe file usually within the mugen folder.
You can name it whatever you want to name it.
Click OK when your done.
Then Apply, then Close, and its good to go.

Hey Ryon, I made an edit of bowser but there is a sprite glitch that just stand there. How do I keep characters from cloning themselves? should i send you the character that you can fix?
does it appear as a big bowser or a mini bowser? if it is either , its most likely a helper or an effect that is being displayed with no proper animation so it defaults and goes back to the players animation.

I decided to do a testrun and use Sonic.
When I hit Ctrl+M to test him out in MUGEN,
his hitboxes are there, but I can't get him to move or jump.
If I get another character to shove him,
it's like he's in a constant state of falling,
because the dust particles appear as his feet drag across the floor.
Any ideas?
Did you use Kung Fu Man as a base?
Do you have a common1.cns file?
Basically you don't have a proper state 0 (stand) so you have no control, and the game makes dust cause your in a error state

Sorry i thought i replied to this. If your lucky the sprites will be indexed and you can just add them as is into Fighter Factory and it will work.
If it doesnt just work... well...i dont know.. you'd have to find a way to make a sprite sheet and work from it, or... i dont know.

Also when making the frames, would it be possible to create multiple layers of each frame? That way it would be easier to just label everything.
fighter factory doesn't crop away the green background. I'm not really sure what should i do, i've tried everything.
then it sounds like the green is not your alpha color (1st color in the palette box)
@@RyonMugen the first actual color is black, but the backgrounds are light blue.
when i try to move the light blue somewhere, the pallete fills the empty space with the next color available and changes how the sprites look.
making the background transparent kinda fixes it in ff, but when i test it in mugen, the blue is still there.
