This is my second time making this. It was our first time ever trying homemade Salisbury steaks. Such a difference in flavor & taste then a frozen box, so much better. My whole family loved them. I love when i cook a meal & there's no left overs. Thanks so much for sharing such a soulful rich dish with us.

I love Salisbury Steak! I first had it back in the '60s when it came as the protein portion of a Swanson TV Dinner. Then I had a "homemade" version that used Lipton Onion Soup Mix for the sauce. THEN I learned to make it from scratch. I was the only 12-year old boy I knew back then who cooked things like that. (Franks and beans, using canned beans, was about as advanced as most of my friends got.) To this day, it's still one of my favorite beef dishes.

I literally just finished making this, and it is so good! I followed the directions exactly as they were written, I only added some Lipton onion soup as I saw others have suggested. But I didn’t change a thing. And I love the fact that you didn’t have 1 million ingredients. Thank you SO much!!

Where have you been all my life. I’m a huge lover of salisbury steak, tried many recipes before but they all ended in failure, either meat too tough and chewy or gravy is off. But this....is spot on perfect. I only add 3/4 stick of butter to it, eat it with my killer mashed potatoes and i was in heaven. No need to order from restaurant no more. You have my gratitude my good man.

bella christina Hi Bella, you can find Beef Base in the soup section. A popular brand name is Better than Bouillon. If you cannot find Beef Base, simply use beef broth (do not add the water if the recipe if you do) or you can keep the recipe as is and use a couple bouillon cubes. Hope this helps!! Thank you for watching and please let me know how you like it!

I've made this recipe twice now and it is definitely going into my regular rotation of 'meals to make'. The recipe is wonderful at its base, and here are some things for people to consider.
    1. One of my family has a very difficult time swallowing, and so instead of 2 lbs ground beef I've used 1lb ground beef and 1lb ground veal which makes the resulting patties / meatballs VERY soft but also, importantly, not grainy such that my family member had no problems eating it either time.
    2. Instead of the straight up salt, I subbed in extra beef base in the patty mix the second time which everyone thought gave it some more flavor.
    3. You can add as much fresh onion and mushroom to your pan as it will hold, just put in some extra Worcestershire sauce and beef base and maybe a little extra corn starch and it will just make you more delicious gravy.

Sup Larry, this is almost exactly how my grandma and mother used to make but they add a little bit apple butter to sauce, Pennsylvania dutch lol, I now use cheap cuts and needle it, age and needle again, add herbs, but same similar recipe,. I'm loving channel, and so happy you share recipes, and highlight frozen stuff for people down and out for whatever reason 👊, provide a service, entertainment, stress free recipes ect.., going from wide passing to homeless to chef with kids under 1 roof, it really hits home. Nonyah Biz Why is him mixing with his hands gross? When it comes to ground beef, the best way to mix everything together is with your hands. A lot of tools don't really mix everything real well. And if you're worried about germs, if you wash your hands, there's probably more germs in the air. Not to mention, the heat kills most bacteria.

Thjis was easy to prepare and it's the most tender and tasty beef I have in years. We've almost stopped buying beef. Now we have a great recipe that we'll use on a regular basis. There is just two of us so we cut the recipe in half. It was more than we could eat. WEe had leftovers the next day for lunch. It was OK but better the first night. We had it with mashed potatoes. WOW! Thanks!

I have made this recipe twice now. ITS AN ABSOLUTE KEEPER. A BIG THANKS. I didn’t change anything which is a first. I TRIPLED the recipe. LAST 24hrs. Great in a toasted Brioche sandwich w Swiss or provolone cheese. I used a 1 Cup measuring cup so all the patties were big and same size. I did add 4 cartons sliced cremini mushrooms & sautéed them first in the skillet after removing the browned meat patties. Once cooked, remove the mushrooms, set aside & start w slivered cut onions & followed the rest as he showed. I did this because my largest pan size would not accommodate all patties to lay flat while simmering. Before adding the cornstarch slurry, I put the mushrooms back in. Serve w Yukon mashed potatoes and sautéed green beans. 😋 😋

I been making a similar recipe for years...
After browning the patties, remove them add two cups beef stock to deglaze a can of cream of mushroom soup and a cup of rice. Season with salt and pepper and place in 350 oven for 30 minutes. Remove, stir and add the patties on top. Return to oven and bake for another 15-20 min. It's soo tasty!

Sounds very good might try yours since you atleast added the gist of the recipe with measurements ! Which is more than this guy with the video did. What size can of soup ? 10 oz. or family size ? is rice cooked or not ? Is it just plain white rice ?

    • @JASONMONT76
      @JASONMONT76 3 года назад

@@dragons8822 10oz and plain uncooked long grain or parboiled rice (parboiled stays more firm which I like).
Also before you add the patties stir the rice, the rice will cook more evenly.

I made these about 20 minutes ago.I added green pepper and onion to my meat mixture.I added toasted wheat bread and one egg and soy sauce.Shaped them into oblong balls and cooked them.I took them out of the pan.added flour to make gravy and added cornstarch to thicken then i added the meat back to the skillet.I also made mashed potatoes with sour cream and magarine. And asparagus for a vegetable. I browned onions and added them to the gravy.I like cooking an entire meal at one time.It taste awesome.

I make mine pretty much the same way, but I add 8-10 ounces of a hearty red wine, such as Merlot or Burgundy to my broth, and I use Beefy Onion Soup mix instead of beef base. Love this stuff!

I worked in a restaurant and Salisbury Steak was always popular. We call them salbies. We added celery and green pepper. At home after browning them, I use Heinz brown gravy and simmer for 45 minutes. Delicious!

I used almond flour and finely chopped mushrooms in the patties rather than bread crumbs also used heavy cream instead of milk for same reason, less carbs. Used onions and mushrooms in gravy. Turned out great.

This made an excellent meal! I do, however, want to point out that in your recipe at the blogspot page, it calls for 4 cups of water instead of 2, whereas I found that 2 cups is what should be used. All tastes the same, but had to do a bit of work to thicken up 4 cups of water. Lol
Either way, great stuff! Will be making it again. Thank you

Here is something that I started doing a few years back that made my meatloaf, and meatballs, pop. I started adding a pack, or two, of the brown gravy mix to my meatloaf/meatball mix and I am telling you....it makes them so much better. The only time I use those packs of gravy mix as gravy, is if I want gravy fries. However, add them to your mixture for meatloaf, meatballs, and I suppose these Salisbury steaks, and you will love it! It gives it such a good flavor!
