It's so sad what happened to Steve Gleason, I hope that in his most depressed moods these days he uses the memory of the New Orleans' rebirth and that he was the patron saint. Bless you Steve! =)
Gleason unfortunately contracted ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease) in 2011 which has forced him to be wheelchair-bound due to the paralysis that accompanies this condition. However, he is still an integral part of the Saints organization and a devoted father and husband and an inspiration to many in New Orleans and beyond. In 2011, he was awarded a Super Bowl ring for his contributions to the team. On October 15, 2015, he was at the Saints/Falcons game and was presented with the George Halas Award, and that same night the Saints blocked a Falcons punt and returned it for a touchdown, amazingly echoing Gleason's own blocked punt from 9 years prior.

The Edge from U2 also started the charity Music Rising at this time, which helped replace the instruments that New Orleans musicians lost in Katrina - keeping the music scene alive in the region. Trombone Shorty and his band performed as well. This was also U2's return to the arena where they played the first post-9/11 Superbowl Halftime show. The video may have tried to downplay its significance, but this musical performance was a big part of the night, adding to the cultural importance of the rebirth of New Orleans.
