  • This time we'll take a look at New York Islanders 1st round pick from the #NHLDraft2024 Cole Eiserman out of the US National Team Development Program (USNTDP), There are a million highlight videos of his goals out there I'm sure, but what does he look like shift by shift? I'll focus on his mental game, his reads, his anticipation, and his process for getting open to see what we have under the hood.
Shout out to Frank Sinatra for helping with the foreword of this hockey video.

Great analysis. I absolutely want more of those. If you can fix the constant background noise from your mic, you'll get one more subscriber :P

Thanks. I never heard that background noise until I turned this one way up. I'll see if I can correct that for the next one.

Really good video. There’s definitely a lot more development in him but I feel 3-4 years he’ll be way better rounded. He’s also pretty young for his class so maybe that means something

How would you compare him to Kuzmenko? I'd put Kuzy above Eiserman because of the playmaking factor too

Respectfully this is a lot of criticism considering you are evaluating his performance in what appears to be one game. All these items you mention are teachable and can become second nature with experience. And certainly not unexpected with a 17 year old.

Of course it's one game, because otherwise it's three hours of the same thing on repeat haha. I don't frame things up because they're exceptions, I frame them up because they're consistent traits that I've seen for two years.
He plays a unique style, other high-end prospects don't have these tendencies (both good and bad). But not everything is just a coach away. That's why so many draft picks - even first rounders - don't pan out. Not all players are coachable, not all traits are coachable. It also assumes that his current coaches - the ones in charge of America's top prospects - not only permit this style of play and these tendencies, but that they promote them.
That's not to say that he's a finished product - he's not. That's not to say that he's not going to get coaching that connects with him in some ways - it's not. But there isn't a magic wand to this or else everyone would pan out. So you look at the tendencies, you look at how the player sees the game, and you can determine - to a point - what's going to stick with him coaching wise and what might not. Then you extrapolate that out on his three primary development arcs to try to ascertain his upside with reasonable accuracy.

God, I mean Dal Colle was a 0-dimensional player with only 3 AHL seasons with a point every other game, one AHL season with a point per game, Wahlstrom did not break the US NTDP goal scoring record like Eiserman did, never mind in less games than Caufield's previous record

Kid is a stat and will pot 40 NHL goals his rookie season. Book it.
