- Ivan Demidov's skill and creativity are limitless, and that's what made him a steal the moment the Montreal Canadiens drafted him 5th overall in the 2024 NHL Draft. In this video, I break down what makes Demidov such a unique prospect - the likes of which the Habs haven't seen since Alex Kovalev.

He’s gonna bring our top 6 to a totally other level
Suzuki, caufield, slaf, dach, newhook and demidov. The future is bright
How did this guy go by four other teams
@@fckinvandoosI’d try to replace Newhook with a bigger winger (yet to be traded for). IMO, Newhook is an excellent 3rd line player with speed and skills.
@@Ben-hi5zm yes newhook would give a lot of depth to the habs center line , could easily become the 2nd line center in case of injury , the question now , with the actual roster should newhook be given a shot as the 2nd center with Dach as a RW? since dach is a big guy and his good playing in periphery along the board
I've watched all of newhook's goals last season and most of them are from the slot, he is good at finding the spot in this area and quick at taking the shot. For that i'd try him as a center on L2 since the habs are still in rebuild phase and can afford to try different combination
@@Bizmo403- the same way Michkov was bypassed by 5 other teams (Bedard was #1). One team reached for a 2nd pairing defenseman based on need.
Future is looking good in Montreal. Both Slaf and Demidov are great puck distributors, each with different tools that make them particularly hard to slow down, and they have enough shooting talent to keep teams on their toes. Both Caufield and Suzuki are solid goal scorers, Suzuki also bringing a very well rounded game.
Would love to see some more speed in that top 6 in the future. Hage looks promising in that regard, though he obviously has a long way to go to prove it.
But something like (Slaf-Suzuki-?Hage?) and (Caufield-?Dach?-Demidov) could be a very difficult top 6 to play against. Each has great attacking potential but comes at you in a completely different way.
But even if the lines look nothing like that in the end, have both Slaf and Demidov gives our top 6 some incredible flexibility. Even if Dach, Hage, Newhook or Roy dont pan out in the top 6, I'm not too concerned because we jave enough there that i don't think those last two spots will be particularly hard to find via trades/UFA signings, especially with the Assets we have and Cap space we've been granted by favourable contracts.
Hell, maybe everything goes to hell and we suck forever, but that doesnt change the fact that, at this moment, i am a very excited Habs fan.
His edgework is next level, seems to have legs made from rubber.
Can't wait to see Demodov and Hutson on the PP in a couple of years!!
Just imagine when he's going to have good players around him and how the power play will go with Suzuki, Caufield, Slaf and Hutson.
i used to pray for times like this
and now PATRIK LAINE
I was happy when the Habs drafted Slafkovsky, (unlike a lot of people) but I wasn't overly excited about the pick because of the Wright controversy.. Today, Slafkovsky is the player I expected him to become when they drafted him. Which is great! He and Suzuki are my two favorite players on the team. Hutson looks fantastic too. That being said, when Celine was walking up to the podium, I was welling at her through my monitor to say "Ivan Demidov!" I still can't believe the Habs were able to pick him up at 5th. I cant wait to see what this team looks like in a few season when some of these young players get more experience. Players like Hutson and Demidov have make their teammates look great and I have a feeling that the Habs are about to break out on the PP. Suzuki, Hutson and Demidov on the same PP should look very good. Add that big talented Slafkovsky and Matheson and you're looking at a great PP unit. You have Dach and Caufield to play on the first or second PP. Mailloux, Xhekaj on D, Newhook, Roy, maybe even maybe Heineman if he ups his game. This team can go from having 1PP unit to 2 easily if everyone stays healthy. They don't have to trade for a top 6 if they are patient. As soon as Demidov comes over, they have 5. Caufield, Suzuki, Slafkovsky, Dach and Demidov. If Hage is as good as advertised, he'll be here in a few years too. So ya, I couldn't be happier about Demidov and I have a lot of faith in him as I did Slafkovsky.
We won’t have Hutson and Matheson on the same PP. remove Matheson and add Caufield. That’s wild!!!!
I'm legit so hyped man
with how responsible he is without the puck, how committed in the d-zone , his extremally high hockey IQ and bulldog personality. IMO although he is a winger... this kid could be am elite center iceman.
It really feels like the domino pieces are falling perfectly into place. Not long ago peolle were thinking Caufield was our best talent. Crazy to think that Caufield might be our 4th best player, and its not like he is regressing or anything. He had to deal with being the 1 guy the other team has to shutdown, that is tough for young players to handle. With Dach coming back and maybe Demidov, Caufield will have a lot less pressure. Gonna be fun to see how he does.
6:10 that laugh from the announcer after that play is just too good
Habs are going to be legit very soon!
I made a comment and forgot to thank the author for his excellent video. THANKS!
I can already see a Demidov- Suzuki - Slaf 1st line doing alot of damage in the Atlantic for the Habs.
The Habs aren’t just building a Playoff Contender they’re building a Dynasty.
New Jersey begs to disagree with you.
@@rgood1204
Demidov comparable with Jack Hughes
Suzuki comparable with Nico Hischier
You guys have NO player like Slafkovsky
You guys have NO player like Dach
You guys have NO player like Laine
Lane Hutson comparable with Luke Hughes (I personally prefer Hutson)
Reinbacher & Nemec probably have similar value.
Nemec very good offensively.
Reinbacher very good defensively.
I like Guhle better than Silayev,
but I guess you could argue they are comparable.
Caufield & Jesper Bratt…
I guess that’s debatable who is better / more valuable.
I probably give the edge to Bratt,
but two very good players.
I’ll take Montreal’s future over New Jersey’s future
Any day of the week,
and twice on Sunday

@@rgood1204New Jersey’s up and coming prospects hold nothing to the Habs 😭😭
@@rgood1204 to be fair you couldnt reply to what he said so you just replied a laughing emoji.. lol
The probability of Demidov being available at 5th spot in the draft was extremely slim, a near miracle. Demidov has the talent, the attitude and character to succeed. In addition, he will NOT arrive in Montreal with the pressure to doing everything. The rebuild is already advanced and the offense responsibility will be shared with Suzuki, Caufield, Slafkovskÿ, Roy, Hutson and more. Each of these Habs is capable of taking the pressure in the venerable temple of hockey.
When the Hawks picked Levshunov I was like mehh.. maybe! When the Ducks picked Sennecke I was suprised and excited I knew DemiGOD was going to land to Montréal! Columbus was a no brainer for me that they were going to pick Lidstrom to have their two future 1-2 center with Fanttilli.
Can’t wait to see these Youngsters (monsters) performing here. ( Demidov, Hutson, Hage, Slaf.. name it! )
@@johnbri7572 I dreamed a little of Demidov because realistically he shouldn't have slipped that much. I didn't even discuss Demidov. Logically I saw Iginla in Montreal because Demidov, Lindstrom would have left the table and Senneke was an enigma because he was on the rise. The three teams before Montreal “didn’t make a bad pick,” but they “didn’t make the best pick.”
PS: With the change in relations between the KHL and the Russian Hockey Federation, Demidov could arrive in Montreal this year 🤞🏻
@@danielmontreal007 yea same ! I was saying to pol who wanted Demidov .. stop dreaming he wont be there a 5 haha! My pick was Sennecke, Catton or Tij.
I still can’t believe we got him at 5. Hes not just talented. He has a good maturity for his ages. He fits perfectly with the Habs. Hes going to be a fans favorite for years!
He reminds me a bit, of a forward Lane Hutson.
Great video
I just want to go to sleep for a few years and wake up when the Habs are ready for a cup run.
You need to mark this NSFW Hadi 😜
I think it could be good for Demidov to be in the VHL next year. He could learn to play against men with a lot less pressure than in Montreal or the KHL, and he can get lots of ice time.
Would prefer him in Montreal, he said he thrives on pressure.
VHL is like Russia’s AHL. Rough play, long bus rides… Sure, it’ll toughen him up, maybe, but I don’t think it moves the needle on his development enough. I say KHL or bring him over where we can at least have more precise control on his usage and development…
Even better in Laval
Kent Hughes said that if he don’t play in the KHL, they will find a way to keep him in the KHL or bring him in North America.
@@alex-dj9bxdemidov said its too early to come habs roster for 2025 he could start bad like slafkovsky so he can deveolp in ahl to for his ice time
great video
Watched 30 minutes always on the puck and finding seams. Reads the game at elite level. Slick hands, goes strong to the net. Loves to score and an above average passer. 30-40 goals, 30-40 assists.
Double the assists,
and you’re closer to his actual
Points total upside per season
Amazing work, i'm also concerned about his skating style. It looks like he could be vulnerable to knee or groin injury. When you get low, you're at risk of more weight on you, not unlike what happened to Markov vs Eric Stall.
Agree. I can live with the 10-2 thing, but he’s gonna need to tighten up his spread-eagle deking stance or rent himself a semi-permanent bed next to Dach’s in the infirmary (apologies to Kirby for the cheap shot.). I’m confident he’ll figure it out, hopefully not the hard way.
As a die hard Habs fan, I AM THRILLED about Demidov. Don't get me wrong, I am frigging excited about it. The only thing that worries me and that no one really talks about is his injuries during his last season in the MHL.
Great video (Habs fan) thanks. But who’s “better” kov or dov ?
He will be the best performer from the 2024 draft class
This guy could make Cole Caufield a 50 goal scorer. Dangle, dangle, feed BUT.
My only concern with Demidov is because of his style he becomes more of a Pettersson/Marner than a Kucherov. By that I mean a 90pts+ regular season guy but when the ice shrinks, he cannot pull his moves. Still overjoyed he's a Habs prospect, he was the perfect and right choice to make at the draft.
Could you please do something like this on Luke Misa??
I’m a Habs fan but this kid will get run over in the NHL over cutting through guys skating the way he does.
if he's being punished why is his 2024/25 season showing SKA willing to give him a strong development plan for the Habs. Bobrovs father is scouting the SKA team so he can speak with them on behalf of the Canadiens. It looks like the SKA are very accommodating. Especially releasing Michkov a year early
Who's Yvonne Deemedev?
Yvonne Deemedoff
It’s “Dzee-MEE-duff”. Get it right. ;)
Why there isn`t anyone in the assistance?
war
Man I wish Russia wasn't under an authoritarian regime, they are great people and athletes but Putin has completely soured any respect I have for them. I'm rooting for this guy as a Habs fan. Its really sad. :/
He's like every Russian greats skill set into one. I see a bit of everybody in there. 😊😊😊 Shit was meant to be. Go Habs.
One thing I would say he is going to have to learn to move the puck quicker in the NHL or he’s going to get injured a lot
HuGo should send the Russians a $ couple million bribe to get him over here this year. Whole season in Laval would be great!
Bring him to the AHL and throw him to all the Matt Rempe wannabes looking to make a name for themselves…? No thanks! If he comes here it’s NHL or nothing.
Demidov's rights are owned by SKA St. Petersburg.
SKA St. Petersburg is owned by Gazprom Export.
Gazprom is Russia's state-owned Petroleum conglomerate, currently under sanctions for funding Russia's illegal war in Ukraine.
If we want him, we're gonna have to smuggle him out a la Mogilny.
I’m really worried about just how deteriorated the MHL is. I think the league has gotten really bad over the last few years. What other junior leagues do you think it’s on par with?
Sure makes up for not taking Michov.
reminds me of hemsky a little bit
true. his skating
he does have nice hands but can he steal the puck like datsyuk i guess we’ll see
I wonder if he's not even better than celebrini
