  • Ivan Demidov's skill and creativity are limitless, and that's what made him a steal the moment the Montreal Canadiens drafted him 5th overall in the 2024 NHL Draft. In this video, I break down what makes Demidov such a unique prospect - the likes of which the Habs haven't seen since Alex Kovalev.

@@Ben-hi5zm yes newhook would give a lot of depth to the habs center line , could easily become the 2nd line center in case of injury , the question now , with the actual roster should newhook be given a shot as the 2nd center with Dach as a RW? since dach is a big guy and his good playing in periphery along the board
I've watched all of newhook's goals last season and most of them are from the slot, he is good at finding the spot in this area and quick at taking the shot. For that i'd try him as a center on L2 since the habs are still in rebuild phase and can afford to try different combination

Future is looking good in Montreal. Both Slaf and Demidov are great puck distributors, each with different tools that make them particularly hard to slow down, and they have enough shooting talent to keep teams on their toes. Both Caufield and Suzuki are solid goal scorers, Suzuki also bringing a very well rounded game.
Would love to see some more speed in that top 6 in the future. Hage looks promising in that regard, though he obviously has a long way to go to prove it.
But something like (Slaf-Suzuki-?Hage?) and (Caufield-?Dach?-Demidov) could be a very difficult top 6 to play against. Each has great attacking potential but comes at you in a completely different way.
But even if the lines look nothing like that in the end, have both Slaf and Demidov gives our top 6 some incredible flexibility. Even if Dach, Hage, Newhook or Roy dont pan out in the top 6, I'm not too concerned because we jave enough there that i don't think those last two spots will be particularly hard to find via trades/UFA signings, especially with the Assets we have and Cap space we've been granted by favourable contracts.
Hell, maybe everything goes to hell and we suck forever, but that doesnt change the fact that, at this moment, i am a very excited Habs fan.

I was happy when the Habs drafted Slafkovsky, (unlike a lot of people) but I wasn't overly excited about the pick because of the Wright controversy.. Today, Slafkovsky is the player I expected him to become when they drafted him. Which is great! He and Suzuki are my two favorite players on the team. Hutson looks fantastic too. That being said, when Celine was walking up to the podium, I was welling at her through my monitor to say "Ivan Demidov!" I still can't believe the Habs were able to pick him up at 5th. I cant wait to see what this team looks like in a few season when some of these young players get more experience. Players like Hutson and Demidov have make their teammates look great and I have a feeling that the Habs are about to break out on the PP. Suzuki, Hutson and Demidov on the same PP should look very good. Add that big talented Slafkovsky and Matheson and you're looking at a great PP unit. You have Dach and Caufield to play on the first or second PP. Mailloux, Xhekaj on D, Newhook, Roy, maybe even maybe Heineman if he ups his game. This team can go from having 1PP unit to 2 easily if everyone stays healthy. They don't have to trade for a top 6 if they are patient. As soon as Demidov comes over, they have 5. Caufield, Suzuki, Slafkovsky, Dach and Demidov. If Hage is as good as advertised, he'll be here in a few years too. So ya, I couldn't be happier about Demidov and I have a lot of faith in him as I did Slafkovsky.

It really feels like the domino pieces are falling perfectly into place. Not long ago peolle were thinking Caufield was our best talent. Crazy to think that Caufield might be our 4th best player, and its not like he is regressing or anything. He had to deal with being the 1 guy the other team has to shutdown, that is tough for young players to handle. With Dach coming back and maybe Demidov, Caufield will have a lot less pressure. Gonna be fun to see how he does.

The probability of Demidov being available at 5th spot in the draft was extremely slim, a near miracle. Demidov has the talent, the attitude and character to succeed. In addition, he will NOT arrive in Montreal with the pressure to doing everything. The rebuild is already advanced and the offense responsibility will be shared with Suzuki, Caufield, Slafkovskÿ, Roy, Hutson and more. Each of these Habs is capable of taking the pressure in the venerable temple of hockey.

Logically I saw Iginla in Montreal because Demidov, Lindstrom would have left the table and Senneke was an enigma because he was on the rise. The three teams before Montreal “didn’t make a bad pick,” but they “didn’t make the best pick.”
