I can understand your struggle in the second play of this video. I could tell you kept wanting to say something, but you couldn't pull your attention from her long enough to talk. She just pulls you right in an holds you there when she sings. ...and she does it every time, with every song

This song is dedicated to Angelina's second grandpa who passed away in late 2019, and all who have lost loved ones. On her Patreon page on Nov 16, 2020, Angelina wrote, “I created this song for everyone that has lost someone special, for me, this was to my grandpa that passed away last year in November.” Her other grandpa passed away in March 2018, and she dedicated “Always On My Mind” to him then.
In the American Songwriter interview Angelina revealed how she felt while recording this song. “When I was in the booth, while I was singing, my tears were running,” she says. “To be honest, it was like a feeling of relief that all my feelings were written down and I felt relieved.” That speaks volumes about Angelina’s ability to transfer her emotions to her audience, who in turn will feel the same. What a beautiful gift to anyone who has grieved for the loss of a loved one. I love this song. And her voice. The emotion…too much to say; so much to feel…my beloved mama, who was 98 years old, passed away right before Thanksgiving this past fall. I miss her everyday. She was my lighthouse, my example, my friend, my protector…I loved her so much. It was my honor to care for her the last 11 years of her life, as she faded away from Dementia. She still had rare moments where I would get a brief glimpse of the smart, beautiful woman I adored so much. My sisters and I used to make her promise us that she’d live to be 100…she almost made it. One of the last moments in her life before she slipped into a coma, I was alone with her, and she took my hand and looked at me in complete cognizance, with a wry smile and an apologetic look, as if to say, “Sorry, honey - I’m not going to be able to keep my promise…but I love you.” I wrote my mama a song for her memorial service. But this song just reaches into my heart and I break…I always break. Beautiful, tragic and full of hope.

I know you’ve reacted to a few songs from Angelina, and you think she’s great. Believe me, you haven’t really seen and heard what she can do. A couple years ago, I knew she was the best singer I ever heard, and she has clearly gotten better and better. Her voice is just mesmerizing in ballads, but she covers so many genres with absolute authenticity. The same young woman who just brought you to tears is also the best jazz singer around today. Her original, Seventh Heaven, just released, is joyful, upbeat jazz with an infectious rhythm driven by a stand-up bass. Another recent release, All I Ask, is an Adele cover that shows you many sides of her talent: her range, her vocal power, her vocal flexibility, and what I think is her greatest talent-her ability to interpret lyrics. She doesn’t perform-she lives the lyrics of whatever she’s singing, and that comes through as though she’s singing directly to you. You felt that today.
She is a once in a lifetime talent, and she’s shown us that just entering her teens. On some songs, like this, it’s hard to give a technical reaction because your emotional reaction drowns out everything else. But please react to more of her work. Your own experience adds much to your reviews.

Where does that tremendous emotion come from? Many people stick with the old adage that a child singer can't convey emotion because they don't have enough life experience. For every rule there is an exception and in this case it is Angelina Jordan. Certainly in her earliest performances from age 6 until she lost her paternal grandpa when she was 12, Angelina was already conveying tremendous emotion. My opinion is Angelina has an unconditional love for music which is stronger than with 99.99999% of other musicians. Angelina takes or makes a song her own and applies her unconditional love for it, then delivers it unlike any other vocalist and has the most soulful voice, IMO, and that combination results in tremendous emotion being conveyed. I also believe there is another factor which can only be described as magic.

Recently, a father and son reaction team recently lost a patreon of theirs who died unexpectedly. They tried to explain to their audience how wonderful a man he was and that they had become very close to him. But, they couldn't contain themselves and began to cry uncontrollably. When they regained their composure they played an Angelina song for James (the patreon) because he loved Angelina very much (as much as the father and son team). A very emotional video, indeed. Within 24 hours, comments flooded in to give their condolences to the father and son. Barry, one of the comments was as follows: Angelina Jordan Official, "I'm so sorry for your loss. She is unique: lot's of singers can sing beautifully but Angelina is telling/living her songs. She always seems to be completely 'in it'. And she had that gift (which to me goes beyond talent) since the very start as a 7 years old.
