Thank you for keeping this song alive. I"m 72 years young and have heard every version of this song and you and your team have raised the banner. Thank you
Amber Riley takes Donna Summer's rendition off to a different planet. This isn't just mimicking, this is icing on the cake that melts in the dark, because it is hot, hot, hot.
Outstanding. Hands down, the best interpretation of the Donna Summer version, in the 46 years since the 1978 original. It honors and respects Jimmy Webb, honors and respects Donna Summer, and with Micah's piano flourishes and Amber's voice, takes new directions and makes it their own. Came out of nowhere, and made my day!
@@MicahMcLaurin - You absolutely did. And I love the arrangement and piano flourishes you created. Beautiful work. Is this part of a forthcoming album, and are all the songs on that album with the orchestra?
I remember the Donna Summer Live & More Concert in the late seventies in Hollywood, California. It was a sold out performance and while mainstream media was declaring Disco was dead, Our Queen was selling out performances in major cities from coast to coast. This is a fantastic cover, thank you Amber, Micah, and ensemble. ❤❤🧡🧡💛💛💚💚💙💙💜💜🖤🖤🤍🤍
@@MicahMcLaurin just purchased on Itunes. Giorgio Moroder made several covers for Summer that seem to be right up your ally (Beep Beep, lol reference to Bad Girls) An EP would be nice.
Donna Summer's MacArthur Park is one of my all-time favorites, a remake of the Richard Harris single from 1968. I generally don't look favorably on cover versions on Donna's take but I think Micah and Amber have really nailed this. I just love it.
Everyone is saying Donna Summer, but you hit the nail on the head! It was Richard Harris who popularized it! And what about Jimmy Webb, the writer of this mystical masterpiece! Cheers and thanks -- This version is amazing as well! ❤️🩹
What a smashing cover of one of my all-time favorite songs from my childhood, but I still always wonder why someone would leave a cake out in the rain.
Jimmy Webb wrote the song about a breakup. He and his girlfriend used to spend time together in Mac Park. Here's what he said about the lyrics: Everything in the song was visible. There's nothing in it that's fabricated. The old men playing checkers by the trees, the cake that was left out in the rain, all of the things that are talked about in the song are things I actually saw. And so it's a kind of musical collage of this whole love affair that kind of went down in MacArthur Park. ... Back then, I was kind of like an emotional machine, like whatever was going on inside me would bubble out of the piano and onto paper.
@@dangerwilrobinson23No, Girogio Moroder played piano, sang backup (20 tracks!), and arranged and directed a full orchestra for the Donna Summer version of this one (he said the horn section was especially tough to get right). There were syndrums, but the rest were real instruments as it wsa the 70s, and sampling hadn't really come into use yet.
All of the previous comments have said all I can say. I can only say thank you to Amber, Micah, the orchestra, and the countless number of musicians and technicians that made this happen. This is a stunning, award-winning production. - On a personal note, I happened to be in Manhattan in 2008 when Donna did a very impromptu mini-concert in Times Square. This Mississippi boy was so thankful she graced my presence. This video is such a gift. All my love to us who enjoyed it.
There are songs that we hear 100 million times and long to hear 100 million more times. The original with Harrys is romantically fantastic, unforgettable. Donna's version is a spectacular brilliance in the original... and this girl... how magnificently she sings, flawlessly repeating Donna's sublime performance.
This remake/song should be nominated for a Grammy and win....its that great! Good job to all involved including Amber, the piano player and the orchestra.
The Donna Summer version of MacArthur Park was a cover of the original written by Jimmy Webb, sung by actor Richard Harris. The song did not originate with Summer, and at the time, fans of Webb absolutely hated that his masterpiece had been reduced to a disco remake. I don't know why people are calling this a tribute to Donna Summer; if anything, it corrects Summer's bass-heavy cover to reveal Webb's original, beautiful melodic line.
This is incredible. I never thought that anyone could take such a classic song from one of the most incredible entertainers ever to sing and make it as relative today as it was in original release. This interpretation of the song has insight (lyrical, emotional, melodic, etc) and is essentially a deeper revelation of moments in the original song that until this moment I thought only Miss Summers was able to convey to her listeners. Chills throughout every second I was listening.
I need to live in a time when this would be a Top 10 song for a long period. This is so, so, good. That cake is a metaphor for whatever you want it to be.
All I can say is oh my wow!!!! Fantastic reimagining and tribute to the eternal Queen of Disco! Amber, you are GOLD!!! Micah, you deserve all the flowers for this mind blowing arrangement. I think everyone will agree that a Donna Summer cover album will be astounding!
This is the most moving arrangement I have ever heard. The piano voicing could not be better. I've listened to this five times, and I am not finished yet.
I was spellbound. Captivated. Completely immersed. Transported to a bittersweet time in my life, where when I closed my eyes, this song helped me soar above the pain and despair. Thank you, Micah, and Amber. You made me forget about my cancer for 6:28 of musical bliss. 🐻❤️😘🌈
I am crying! Thank you for doing this recording Justice! Amber Riley I love you! Micah and Amber you were true to the original and added your own to the vocals! Love LOve LOVE!! This!! This should being played in the clubs!! I hope it makes it to the charts!! I hope to see you playing and singing this at the awards!
Richard Harris` version was classic, Donna Summers version was classic, there have been many other artists come along and sung this song, but never had the same effect as the previous mentioned artists, until now, Micah and Amber along with the absolutely brilliant Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and everybody else involved in bringing this together have nailed it 100% making it another brilliant version of this classic.
ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! The orchestration, arrangement and Amber’s vocals just took this classic to a whole new level! I also love that you can hear Micah’s amazing talents in the song and they aren’t buried under the orchestra! Love this! Great Job to all that made this masterpiece of music! ❤❤❤

Micah, you are a talented entertainer with a good musical education. Don't disappoint the GOD who made you with these gifts. I've been listening to your Brahms, Liszt, Chopin output. This is an incredible version of the Jimmy Webb classic. Webb won the Grammy for his arrangement of Richard Harris' 1969 recording that was wildly popular at the time. And now Micah & Amber crush it yet again with this monster rendition.
I still remember being in London and witnessing Donna Summer sing it live with a full orchestra. As good as Amber is, she just doesn't have the unstoppable and insane power throughout her vocal range that Donna Summer had. But damn, she did the song justice.
This so makes me want a Donna Summer tribute album but with carefully selected vocalists to not mess up what Donna did so beautifully. Singers like Martha Wash, Loleatta Holloway, Robin S and Ultra Naté come to mind as they are the vocal divas of th 90s and I'm sure there are others, like Amber who could do her songs judtice, but not many.
