The best Original Score of all time, The Lord of the Rings Trilogy
no doubt
Well said. The best music ever written for film.
I think Star Wars is the best score of all time.
hell yes !
+Ryan Beck Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, and The Godfather. :)
Mr. Shore, I'm here years later to still thank you a lot for that masterpiece
Same here...3 years later after your comment. Thank you very much, Howard Shore.
And another 2 years later: Thank you, Howard Shore.
How is your life after 7 years?
Damn, John Williams got nominated twice, conceded and still clapped along FROM THE STAGE WHERE HE WAS CONDUCTING THE LIVE ORCHESTRA
Wow what a year for film music. The score for Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone is one of my all time favourites. John Williams did exceptionally good job on it, but then comes Howard Shore with FOTR: no other score could had beaten it.
I like the score for the fellowship of the ring, I don't mind harry potter though, but The Hobbit and The Lord Of The Rings are my favourite films, the kind of music from those two trilogies are not stuff you see much everyday now, even the Hobbit has the kind of soundtrack you don't see a lot these days now,
The 3 Harry Potter soundtracks are on a whole different Universe. Vastly superior to shore's work, which is saying a lot since shore's work is top notch.
@@agustinfodriniI disagree. I think both scores are equally powerful. But ultimately LOTR is more emotional than Harry Potter in my opinion and that's why it won. But John Williams received 5 Oscars for his other works, whereas Howard Shore only won 3. He deserved this.
I suspect Beautiful Mind was in the running as a coat tail win.
Awesome
Howard shore created the best and most emotional original score of all time.
This is what kanye should have said when he interrupted Taylor Swift lol
Thank goodness the Oscars didn't fuck this up and gave it to the person who deserved it most.
2003501 no, the Oscars did f*ck up. John Williams was supposed to win.
@@paulacosta8268 I personally like the masterpiece score done for the fellowship of the ring, but the problems with Oscar's is that you cannot always make promises on the nominee you want to win will actually win, there is only ONE nominee that wins, when you've got several great films coming out the same year, or just the start of the Harry Potter series and the start of the legendary Lotr trilogy coming out at the same year it's going to tough to decide who gets the Oscar,
@@paulacosta8268 Nop. Lotr was superior
The score for Lord of The Rings is one of the best pieces of music (not just a movie score) written ever. It's become a classic in a very short time.
this has to be the most talented and legendary group of composers all nominated John Willams, Howard Shore, Hans Zimmer who is my personal fav and the Late James Horner
Hans Zimmer wasn't nominated. It was randy Newman for monsters inc. but he's legendary too.
@@faraazkhan7655 I can't stand Zimmer, subjectivity...
@@stephanemignot100 To each his own. I have a friend who adores Jerry Goldsmith more than all the others and one who loves Ludwig gorannson, it depends on the type of music you connect with.
@@faraazkhan7655 Goldsmith if one of the best indeed, Zimmer is just a fraud, I've realised recently that I never re-watched a movie scored by Zimmer. It's even worse now, I'll never watch a movie scored by him again.^ it's irrational I know! My English sucks sorry.
@@stephanemignot100 Ennio morricone is the other legend that nobody talks about. Add Erich Wolfgang korngold , Alex North and Vangelis to the list and you've got a solid lineup for the top 10 best composers of all time.
I love how John Williams was conducting the orchestra the entire time.
Possibly one of the most deserved oscars ever.
and against John Williams' double nomination makes it more valuable.
2:09 Having John Williams, whom you just won an Oscar against, sitting below, front and center right in your field of vision as you deliver your speech must be quite the intimidating and nerve wracking experience as a composer
Especially because he's won the most oscars of anyone, ever.
That's one stacked category
Dear Howard Shore, thank you and your team for warming my heart to such extraordinary music.
This was John Williams last GREAT film score (Harry Potter). So many unique themes and memorable sounds. That being said I still think Howard Shore really struck gold with his music. It's beyond beautiful and cuts to an emotional core. I wish LOTR came out another year just so Williams could have won this Oscar, but between the two I think Shore definitely was a worthy winner
John * All the other composers make music that just sounds like a film score. Only Howard Shore is able to create otherworldly music that transports you to a different realm. He makes magic out of music. He wins.
No
John * catch me if you can?
Artificial inteligence is a masterpiece
both of them deserved it!
Any other year Harry Potter would of won, nothing was beating LOTR that year.
+Charlie Harrison I think HP deliberately didn't release their 3rd installment in 2003 knowing that Return of the King will be massive.
+Frodo Sings sorry to disappoint you and all, but Harry potter is much more succesful than LotR
Amy Anner
Sorry to disappoint you and all, but that's not true. The LOTR trilogy grossed more compared to the first three HP films. Two towers and Return of the king were both highest grossing films of 2002 and 2003, respectively. The entire LOTR trilogy was also nominated for 800 awards and won 475 of them, making it the most awarded film trilogy of all time. :)
The LOTR book trilogy is also the second best selling book of all time following the Bible.. so yeah.. it's definitely more successful than HP. :)
+frodo sings bitch pls, go search "highest grossing film of 2001" on google, you'll see that HARRY POTTER AND THE SORCERER'S STONE is on the No. 1 spot and Fellowship of the Ring is on the No.2 spot. also no one gives a fuck LOTR because its boring asf and its about shitty ass hobbits, while every person in the world has heard the name "HARRY POTTER". The LOTR aint even a competition for HP lmao.
The Philosopher's stone soundtrack was a close contender in my opinion, but honestly NOTHING could beat Howard Shore's ost for the Fellowship of the Ring....a true portal to Middle-Earth that was, so ethereal and enchanting, every fantasy filmmaker should take note on how to transport the viewer to another world from Shore's soundtrack
Thank you, Howard. For being a great representative of Canadian talent!!
yes, translating Tolkien's words into music. i think he would be proud
He went up against John Williams twice and still won. Crazy. LotR soundtrack will remain the best of all time
Without the music the movies would never be the same
The score of The Lord of the Rings is the god of all scores in movie history!
The elvish music and the music of the one ring is just....
The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring has great music score.
Deserving winner!
So deserved. The Breaking of the Fellowship
howard shor is the best, talented genius composer of universe,i love LotR and Hobbit soundtrack about everytihing!
uhhhhhhh, beethoven but shore is great too
Bach>all
It’s hard to believe that Howard Shore also did the film score to Silence of the Lambs
Thank you Howard from a fellow Canadian!!
Yes, "The Fellowship of the King" - Official Remix by Viggo Mortensen
This category in 2002 was filled with so many incredible scores. AI, Harry Potter, FOTR, Monsters Inc. etc. John Williams and Howard Shore…two of my absolute favorite composers of all time.
All of the Best Original Score Nominees of 2001 have won at least 1 Oscar:
Howard Shore: The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring and The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King
John Williams: Fiddler on the Roof, Jaws, Star Wars, E.T. the Extra Terrestrial, and Schindler's List
James Horner: Titanic
Randy Newman: Monsters Inc. and Toy Story 3
Wow, competition was high 👀
Beautiful scores!!! The Fellowship of the ring had a gorgeous score, but I would have gone w AI the music from that film is absolutely stunning.
damn what a year for film music. Jesus.
Howard Shore, John Williams and James Horner.. Between these 3 has the best music in movies from 1970 - 2010
Wow I didn’t know these amazing scores were all in on year, I wish they would all have won an Oscar...
Williams is my man but fellowship is my favorite soundtrack
My thoughts exactly!
Not giving him the Oscar would have been the greatest crime against artistic integrity since Titanic won best picture against LA Confidential and Good Will Hunting.
After watching Harry Potter with all those wonderful themes & John Williams only an Oscar nominee , surely he was robbed ! No, Howard Shore truly deserves this award for his landscape of deep to light other -worldly music !
You genius Howard Shore!
"A kinfe in the dark,is the most big masterpiece music creation that was ever written, farr beyond all"
One of the greatest scores of all time of all forms of music. So magical
What a year of contenders, but so well deserved to Howard! This film score (along with the other scores for this trilogy) is one of the most beautiful pieces of music ever composed.
What an absolutely incredible list of scores to choose from....
He's such a legend
his work especially on the fellowship is unparalleled
All of the Best Original Score Nominees of 2001 except for Randy Newman have won at least 1 Best Original Score Oscar:
Howard Shore: The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring and The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King
John Williams: Fiddler on the Roof, Jaws, Star Wars, E.T. the Extra Terrestrial, and Schindler's List
James Horner: Titanic
A fantastic Oscar victory. And even better when Howard won again two years later for Return of the King.
Best year in this category
They're starts of Two Notice Weeks (2002)
John Williams looked pissed!
Bruce Wayne I think you don't know the humility of that man. He already had 5 oscars in his pocket in 2002 :,)
What an unmasurable talent, no one else could have immersed into the world as perfectly he did in conjuring up the music.
Howard Shore had save my life !!
Amazing!!
Howard shore is a LEGEND
anyone else here after watching the 4k Remaster? I was lucky enough to see it in theaters, incredible experience
Лучший саундрек в истории кино!! Переслушивал уже раз 100.
So many great movies in one year !!!!
Thank you for making masterpieces
Much deserved. What happened to the academy?
Competition was so fierce that harry potter theme lost.
Jesus Christ, what a field!
Thank you Howard Shore!!!
Richard Wagner and Howard Shore are my idols!!! I salute you Howard Shore ✋🏻
At Hugh Grant my crush.
Thanks howard..thanks.
i love sandra.
i had a tear in my eyes
To be honest, all of the nominees of that category were all good. Howard Shore really stood out of that category
Rarely a score touch you the way this one does.
Howard Shore y ese pequeño intro que transporta a otra dimensión...
I just now noticed, the woman Howard is sitting next to is his wife Elizabeth, and the writing on her hand says “Hi Mae”, aka their daughter. 😄
Howard Shore com sua música fantástica me faz viajar!!! Muitíssimo merecido esse Oscar de Melhor Partitura!!! ❤❤❤❤❤👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🙂👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
MY RANKING THAT YEAR:
1 - THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE FELLOWSHIP OF THE RING
2 - A.I. ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE
3 - MONSTERS, INC
4 - HARRY POTTER AND THE SORCERER'S STONE
5 - A BEAUUTIFUL MIND
How is your life after 5 years?
@@nikelmaharjan6755 como le sucede a todos, ha tenido sus altas y sus bajas, pero en lo general no me quejo...gracias por preguntar... a propósito, ¿tu mamá sigue con su oferta de 2 por uno los viernes?
Lord of the Rings: The #1 answer for anyone loving something from a movie from the turn of the millennium and going "Why didn't this win an Oscar??"
2023 still relevant
How come Pearl Harbor wasn't nominated?
This man is a fucking legend !!!
Was that John Williams as conductor applauding at the very end?
The Fellowship of the King?
This Score makes you feel like home, feel like being sent into another world and feel like being in hell all at the same time. Nobody else came close to this, imho.
Howard Shore the Best 👊🏼
Nice but derivative score. The Fellowship of the Ring (Howard Shore)
This makes me pine for the years when there were good movies that cared about more than their politics, and just entertained us.
I like the score from The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring.
fantastique
Harry Potter was the only one who could compete, since John Williams did an amazing work. Still, LOTR is really a masterpiece.
gosh I love this
Please don’t hate me…
“A Beautiful Mind” was the more-deserving score that year.
That said, I’m still happy Mr. Shore won.
Why amelie didn't selected for the nominee?
I can't imagine LOTR soundtrack losing to Monsters inc...
While I enjoy Howard Shore’s work in this film and the trilogy as a whole, I do feel that there are bits of it that sound too similar to James Horner’s score for Braveheart
Back when the Oscars made sense
Imagine beating out John Williams who was nominated for two films. Howard Shore is the GOAT
Lol wtf at the blurry Frodo still picture they chose for LOTR nomination
Still the Goat
Hugh grant eh mto atrapalhado kkkkk a sandra ri dele o tempo todo, nas gravações nem se fala haha
Howard Shore does not deserve Oscar but osacr deserves Howard shores
As good as they were, the other contestants had absolutely no chances that year
The score of A Beautiful Mind was great but The Lord of the Rings was even better.
The best
Still disappointed because Amelie wasn't nominated.
