Stat padding may be a fair assessment. Their team has too many quality scorers in the starting lineup to struggle hoe they have. But, when everyone has to wait around and can't operate with the ball because Jokic has the ball so much, it hinders the offense a bit.
If he got in better shape to he able to gave a bigger impact on the defensive end, he could free up more space on offense for other players to shine.
I'm not knocking his game, but their could be a fair point to be made about his play.

Gil's reasoning about SGA over Jokic is the same bias that he's accusing the media of because when the players were voting, they were even worse. They picked their favourite players. He had a point almost where the metrics should be used and things like true value stats measured and so there's no need for voting unless there's probably a tiebreaker needed. Denver minus Jokic = a playoff team? OKC minus SGA = a playoff team? That differential needs to be calculated or estimated when determining MVP too. Take Tatum off Boston, we know they're still a top 3 contender in the East and that's the problem. Now, if the team was constructed more like Denver then Tatum would be more in the running for MVP

The reason Tatum didn't get the MVP recognition from voters because he was carried by his team mates all year when he had average-bad games, they still won by 20+ usually. Which showed when he did have big games, they don't mean as much because they're not as dependent on him to play well. If Luka, Jokic or Shai had bad games, their teams almost certainly lose that night. Tatum it didn't matter so much. Hence the 6th place voting. Hard to complain about not getting MVP votes when there's 2 other 20 PPG scorers on his team. So clearly he's not doing it all, and the reason they won the chip is exactly that reason. They had so many guys to contribute.

The problem with Gil and Nick is they're just basing it off on stats, when that's only one part of the equation. Voters are also looking at how you make your team better and how it results in winning. Didn't Denver finish 2nd in the West? They did. As a matter of fact, they have the record as the one seed. They're just second due to a tiebreaker.
Jokic's IQ is through the roof and his triple doubles aren't forced. His IQ is so high he can read and predict the movement of the defenses well and then he makes the right plays based on what the defense gives them. Whereas Russ would only regularly drive hard and then drop the ball to a teammate or kick it out to somebody and that made their offense very predictable.
Joker directs his teams traffic like he puts everybody in position. With or without the ball, he directs them. That's not Russ.
And we know how creative he is at passing he makes you wonder how he has made some of his passes.

MVP is which player has the most impact on a successful team. Tatum has Brown, they share the impact. Durant and Steph shared the impact just as Kobe and Shaq shared the impact. If you take a person off the competitive team and they fold in the RS, that player is in the MVP discussion. These ex players seem to not know how their own fucking awards work.

Giannis is the best bet for real, bro plays both ends using literally all his energy not just on offence but defence too. His team does not mesh well yet, but some how he’s still 3rd with the “worse coach” and scoring 30 on 61% which literally has never been done!! Giannis is that guy,

McCants is beyond dumb. “Did he play like a finals MVP?” What does that matter when it comes to a regular season award

If it was easy, everyone would do it.

Gil not understanding True Shooting% is 😂. Dude doesn't understand that stat actually benefited guys like him. He was a decent 3 pt shooter and good FT shooter so he was actually more efficient than FG% would let on. All it does is tell you that this guy is putting up points on fewer shots because he makes 3s and gets to the FT line. It's not some witchcraft shit bro

Joker doesn't pass the ball to add assists to his stat line. He passes the ball because he sees a guy who is wide-open to talk a shot. He is the most balanced player in the league. Plus, he shoots a high percentage and his passes lead to super high percentage shots. Nobody gives up the ball to add assists to their stat line. Greedy players hold the ball and try to score no matter what because they want pad their scoring stats. These guys have it backwards.
The best player sometime just gets knocked off because they like to spread the award around. They think it is unfair to keep giving to same player over and over. Same with the Heisman. Jordan was mvp of the nba every year that he played besides his his rookie season and his time with Wizards. He was the best player every year. He would also be the most valuable player no matter team you put him on as he lifts a team up higher than any other player can. A guy like Lebron should won like 10 MVPs or more as well. Same for Wilt. If you are the best, you are the best in most years where you at your peak. Until a new guy comes along and dethrones, that is.
