Considering the emphasis that was placed on Blackbeard being able to eat two Devil Fruits it would be quite anticlimactic if the answer behind the mystery was just that "No one has ever tried before."
Honestly I think it is very reasonable. Because like maybe someone saw this guy try to get two powers but wanted the power and lied saying you can't eat it
Even if something is off limits people will still try it (just what humans kinda do when told you can't do that inner teenager comes out to rebel) I also feel it would be terrible writing for it to be Blackbeard isn't unique and it was all a lie
The real reason why a Devil Fruit user can have one power is because it's to prevent One Piece OCs from getting two or more Devil Fruits in their fanfiction stories.

There has been speculation that Saturn exploding was caused by him having multiple DFs. Basically Imu's power grants immortality and regeneration which could counteract the effect of eating multiple DFs, once that power was taken away by Imu Saturn not only shrivelled up to his proper age but the reaction of the multiple DFs took effect, causing him to explode. This would also explain the wide variety of powers the Five Elders possess. All speculation though, keep that in mind.
@@baru6891 I could see that being the case, since we saw something similar with blackbeard's crew, but it's hard to tear both abilities apart when we consider the elders were talking to each other "telepatically", so that would imply someone else would have access to the elders conversations in that medium, and the only one I could point my finger at would be imu

I feel that Blackbeard's ability to use multiple fruits is tied to the Yami Yami no mi. Where he's using the fruit's ability to turn himself into a natural black hole to hold himself together and prevent an explosive demise. Something along the lines of Darth Sion from Knights of the Old Republic 2. Also, as for the "It's not He, it's They", I always assumed that was Luffy and Zoro sensing the rest of the Blackbeard crew nearby, waiting for the fight.
Yes I do believe “it’s not he, it’s they” is referring to the crew but I also think foreshadowing is a thing that happens. For instance luffy talks about a sleepless disease in drum kingdom (the first place we hear of Blackbeard) I think Blackbeard has a more controlled more aggressive three person variant of the same disorder as cavendish.

The Blackbeard part being multiple people has a second strong hint in that same chapter (I believe). During that chapter Blackbeard and luffy eat cake(?) and drink beer at the bar. Both yell opposite reaction to both consumption (luffy dislikes the cake and like the drink and vice versa) whereas specifically Blackbeard ‘drinks’ in the part where he rambles about ‘dreams will never die’,. After that he takes a big sip from a drink and says ‘this is a very nice drink’. Idk, that part never leaves me.
I remember that bar scene vividly. In the bar Blackbeard likes the cherry pie while Luffy hates it. For the beer it's the opposite reaction. Blackbeard hates it while Luffy likes it.

Here's an idea, what if you CAN eat multiple fruits, but they have to be COMPATIBLE fruits. Like, you couldn't eat the wolf and leopard zoans because they hate each other. But you COULD eat the fire and magma fruits, because they're hole-some buddies who'd never hurt each other.

My theory is the reason black beard can have more then 1 fruit is coz he cant dream. If devil fruits are the dreams of people from the past then him not dreaming might open like an extra devil fruit slot or smt

Maybe Blackbeard is a triplet who absorbed his siblings during gestation. Think about it. Makes sense because it’s a real thing that sometimes happens with twins. So one individual can be born with the DNA of 2 or more people.

Most likely a blood related thing. Like how 2 incompatible blood type kill each other. Based on how vegapunk attempt at extracting DF is stored in thoose green blood. Eating DF must have added a new substance to ones blood that reacted violently when in contact with another susbtance from different DF.

So i must apologize in hindsight. Anyway, i was about to go on the how low the probability of such tranfusion happening, since they already need to have the same blood type to begin with. And blood related families can still have different blood type. And then not only they neede to be injured so bad that they need blood transfusion, it cannot be too bad that they die first. And then there's the problem about medical service being overseer by the world government, etc. I'd say the total probability of that happens is lower than being struck by lightning 3 times naturally. But on second thought its not an absolute proof.
What if Blackbeard comes from an island of “Devil fruit scholars” and similarly to Robins story there was a buster call on the island and so all information and records of that island is gone apart from the knowledge that Blackbeard has thus making him the only one in the world with the knowledge of how to manipulate devil fruits so he can have multiple.
I feel it's more that you have to have a strong enough will to resist the death caused by both devil fruits "fighting" inside you, like a nonstop haki fight when you have 2 devil fruits

We still don't know what happens and why when some eats two fruits and people have the audacity to say "we already know what we need to about DFs,we don't need more answers". Like, why do they taste bad. And what started the cycle?
What's Blackbeard did under the blanket is not a mystery, we already know. Even if the history still didn't reveal it explicitly, we already have enough puzzle pieces to find it out with a good level of security. It's like Big Mom being Lola's mother and the admiral Green Bull (before his name was revealed) having plant based powers that allow him to make photosintesis and therefore not having to eat. We already knew these things before they were revealed, they were SO OBVIOUS that was no surprise at all when they were confirmed. So here goes the solid theory that, unfortunately, is not as fun as the one in this video: Blackbeard have the devil fruits book guide, the one Sanji read when he was a child. So he knows what king of fruit carry what type of powers. That's how he knew Tatch's truit was the yami yami he wanted and then killed the nakama to obtain it. That's also how his tripulation is stealing devil fruit powers from killed characters like Absalom. It was revealed in Punk Hazard that when a devil fruit user dies, their fruit reborns in the closest fruit as the same kind, we saw that happening with a Smile. That's how DoFlamingo obtained the mera mera fruit for his tournment. The mera mera have the appearance of a japanese melon. The closest japanese melon to Ace when he died became the new mera mera. The closes banana bunch when Kaku dies will become the next Ushi Ushi, the closes pineapple when Buggy dies, and so on. Therefore, Blackbeard, knowing what kind of fruit the gura gura is, cause the content is in the book. did bring that fruit with him to Marineford. What he did under the blanket was to see a regular fruit transforming in the new Gura Gura and them simply eating it. I'm nearly 100% sure of this explanation, the pieces are given and it's not hard to merge them. Just like in Lola and Aramaki's cases, it's so obvious that doesn't look like a mystery at all to me. The canibalistic explanation don't fit the history. I do believe Big Mom had eaten mother Carmel and got her powers via canibalism but, as explained in a previous video here in Grand Line Review, this is a very dark theme for Shonen Jump. In order to publish the history in a magazine for teenagers, certain details can't be explicit, they need to remain just implied. The explanation for Blackbead having two devil fruit powers, however, is too much important to the history to not be explicitly told, it can't remain implied for the rest of the story. So, if was Oda's intention to reveal that Blackbeard antropophagized Whitebeard, there is no reason to not make it explicity in Linlin's flashback too.
Your assumption that a fruit is reborn in the closest fruit of the same kind is unfortunately an assumption with no basis in fact. We only know they CAN do that, not that it's a certainty that they always will. Also, we have not seen an artificial devil fruit regenerate. The only fruit we've seen regenerate "on screen" was Smiley's, and it was a regular devil fruit, not an artificial one: the Sara Sara no Mi, Model: Axolotl. A nearby apple turned into it after Smiley's death.
I mean he definitely ate the Cerberus fruit right…? So his other heads ate the other fruits and he already has three fruits. That’s why the mark he left on Shanks is a Dog Paw.
The better theorie would be some kind of octopus/kraken df. Octopus got 3 hearts and 8 arms. Three skulls on blackbeards flag and 8 tips of bones around it. And if someone got three hearts, maybe the could eat 2 more fruits
A kraken/octopus just seems out of line with how fruits work. I know there are fish fruit (axolotl and azure dragon) but neither were shown to be particularly fish like but a kraken? A kraken existing in anything other than the deep blue sea which is the weakness of devil fruits? I don't know it's oda so nothing is impossible but it just seems unlikely to me but hey who knows
An absurd theory that I think I'll always enjoy is that Blackbeard is actually a basket that ate a human human fruit. After all baskets can hold a number of fruit. A more serious theory I like is that Blackbeard had consumed an Octopus fruit in the past. Octopus have 3 hearts and he has a ton of 3 iconography. Hell even his bounty 3,996,000,000 can be interpreted as San, Ko, Ko, Ro, with San meaning 3 and KoKoRo meaning heart. Not to mention the 8 bones on his jolly roger.

Are we just going to ignore the theory that Blackbeard's first fruit was the Mythical Zoan fruit, the Tako Tako no Mi: Model Kraken, granting him the three hearts of an octopus and therefore three possible receptacles for Devil Fruits? AKA the most common theory for why Blackbeard can have more than one Devil Fruit, because it's thematic as hell that Blackbeard sought out the strongest of all three types of Devil Fruits (Mythical Zoan, Logia, and a stupidly powerful Paramecia).
But then he must be constantly in his hybrid form to keep all 3 hearts, and that would also explain why he never sleeps, cuz if he went to sleep, he would revert to his human form, have only one heart again and die
I read a post on reddit that honestly took the wind out of the "they" scene for me. If it was just Luffy whose an extra special boyo, maybe he could detect there was an extra person in Teach, but because it was Zoro as well it's far more likely they're referring to the rest of Blackbeard's crew in that scene, especially since they're telling that to Nami who told them not to get into fights with other crews.
There is theoretically a way to have multiple devil fruits. By eating the revive fruit, then eating another df. The power comes from the soul so u might be able to use it simultaneously
Your body disintegrates after eating a second one though, so you'd be left without a body, instead you'd be a soul (like Brooke before he found his body) with potentially two Devil Fruit powers. I can imagine that the other DF power needs a physical body as medium for it to be effective. That pretty much excludes 90% of the Zoan and Paramecia Fruits and a few Logia as a useful choice.
I absolutely HATE that I just realized... Devil Fruits would be so so SO much more overpowered if/when the world was far more covered in land than water. Maybe the whole reason the ancient kingdoms enemies sank the planet in the first place was to counteract the kingdoms overuse of devil fruit abilities during the war. I also can't believe we still haven't seen a devil fruit that just flat out controls water. We've seen almost every other variation and that one seems like it'd be the strongest fruit in existence.
You know what else would have been really overpowered to fight against in a war? Giants large enough to use the umbrella from Onigashima or the sword from Elbaph. Gee, wouldn't it be *a damn shame* if suddenly the livable landmass of the world was reduced so much that a species of such size literally would not have the space to reproduce and continue their civilization? Like think about it if something was the size required to wield that Elbaph sword, they'd need to eat like... an entire island's food output each meal. There just isn't enough land on the planet to sustain creatures of that size. Also I think Imu probably has control of water somehow. Maybe not a 'Water Logia' but a DF that controls water feels way too likely considering their name backwards is 'Umi' which means sea, their design thus far has been eerily similar to an umibozu which is a Japanese water youkai, and the actions they've taken have led to the flooding of the world. I personally speculate that the sea does not actually hate Devil Fruit users but instead Imu - who has taken control of the sea via a Devil Fruit - hates other Devil Fruit users. I further speculate that Devil Fruits are not 'Devil' Fruits at all but in fact 'Dream' Fruits, which possess the dreams of humans who manifested them in the first place. Imu hates anyone else living out their dream either due to some personal hangup or due to his spat with Joyboy.

In some cases, the user of the fruit makes it look very strong when a regular person wouldn't be able to use it in the same way, like Katakuri, Doflamingo and even Luffy. Even if you get a good fruit, it will take a while before you master its abilities, so it's still a dangerous gamble.
I thought the "They" that Luffy and Zoro said was in relation to them somehow realizing that Blackbeard was not only odd and/or strong, but that he has his own crew of extremely capable individuals similar to the Straw Hats.
The "not him but They" quote is easily the most out of context line in the history of one piece. From every perspective it makes extremely more sense that they are referring to Blackbeard's crew rather than he being more than one. If you actually watch the episode some scenes later we can see him with the entire crew, and it makes much more sense for Luffy and Zoro to feel the presence of other allies in the shadows rather than both knowing this obscure secret. It's weird that theory got so much traction even if it makes so little sense in context

Two separate interpretations. As stated above. We can surmise this is Luffy and Zoro acknowledging the presence of the other black beard pirates. Mind you. As they stroll through Jaya. We do see Burgess wrestling random people. And Doc Q I believe offers luffy an apple. Then comments on his luck because it doesn’t explode. To interpret it another way. Would be to look at it as. They’re referring to Black beard as multiple people. However. For this to make any kind of sense. We’d need a precedent for “character having multiple identities” and that’s a trope that’s not really seen in one piece. @johnnoreau3570 taking something 'out of context' is to remove the events or words surrounding the phrase or events to say that something means something that it wouldn't otherwise mean if you included the surrounding events or words. I'm simply saying that context isn't really what matters here as it doesn't matter whether or not you included it we still don't know exactly what luffy or zoro meant. If in the very next panel they said 'he's definitely a captian of a crew' then yes the context would matter more.

The same way I would say the theory is a colossal stretch if it only hinged on this "they" alone, but it doesn't. What is being done here is puitting the "they" in a different context, as part of a bigger theory with more evidence. It is still making the context matter, just a different one.

Multiple people have, most people think it's a zoan. The Kraken or Cerberus fruit seem the most popular. I am personally fan of the Cerberus fruit since it might give Blackbeard the power to store captive souls in his body. World shattering power of the Gura Gura no mi combined with darkness from the Yami Yami no mi and soul stealing powers would make Blackbeard sort of a fake Imu.
Technically speaking, there isn't really anything wrong with blood cells of differing genes to inhabit the same body, as long as they work, they are fine. I am curious how long it would last though, since blood cells die kinda quickly. Maybe if the darkness fruit can nullify, it may be able partially copy, as long as it knows what to copy. It's darkness after all, the shadow of everything that can exist, therefore, capable of representing its shape.
Okay but what if the reason Loki is seen as killing his father is because Hajrudin was supposed to get the fruit passed on to him, but because of the Doflamingo Toy scandal everyone forgot about him. Making Loki the one to inherit it but as soon as he does. God Usopp saves the day and now Loki is seen as evil for “killing” his father for the fruit??? Now Loki sees himself as crazy as an entire nation is against him

Wapol gained the power of his brother's devil fruit by eating him. Which is non-canon. But then Blackbeard introduced the concept of using two devil fruits powers to canon.
I used to think it was a comment on Blackbeard's true nature as well, but now I'm of the opinion that the "they" in question are BB's other crewmates. It was just an odd way of saying that he's not alone, his allies are likely close by, and he's not to be trusted.

Does everyone keep forgetting that supposedly Blackbeard ate two different types of devil fruit. Types of devil fruit Logia, Zoan, and Paramecia. Which means that it might be because they ate the same type of devil fruit or different devil fruit that they supposedly died. And Blackbeard's devil fruit allows them to supposedly absorb other people's devil fruits when he touches them so he could actually handle touches more than one person contemporary is all the devil fruit powers so if he want to eat multiple devil fruit he power should allow him to survive and use them.
When Blackbeard defeated Boa he mentioned keeping her around after he took her DF power. This tells us that whateever means he uses to extract fruit powers from other users aren't necessarily fatal, it just happens to be that the two confirmed ones (Whitebeard and Absalom) are both dead.
I don't think Luffy and Zoro were talking about Blackbeard when he said "they". Because directly afterwards it revealed Teaches Crew to us. Luffy and Zoro knew the man had his crew with him. They were the Blackbeard pirates. Not multiple personalities or trying to be hip.

I’ve always suspected that devil fruits are all so different and unique that without knowing exactly what is changing genetically from both fruit, there’s simply a higher than average risk that the two fruit overlap and are therefor incompatible. However if by chance or by very careful analysis of a prior user of both fruit, it would be possible for their effects to not overlap and be compatible. Dr Vegapunk’s work side steps this a bit by simply altering the genetic changes individually, simply choosing one set or the other for any overlapping changes. This may be why they are limited to using only one power at a time, and this would also explain why the Seraphim could wield multiple powers that are otherwise would be incompatible in a single being. All this is not to discount any extra “specialness” a being comprised of multiple people like the theory of Blackbeard speculates and their separate ability to wield multiple devil fruit.
Blackbeard is a special case, since his Dark-dark fruit can negate devil fruit powers, he can "Turn off" either of his powers at any particular time, so he has two powers, but can only use one of them at a time.
The theory going around that blackbeard was a siamese triplet and his two brothers got removed which killed them but allowed him to use them to have multiple devil fruits is my favorite so far.
My theory is that if the devil fruits are compatible you will gain both powers and the ones that were tested weren’t compatible. A way this could work is that you can only have one of each type of fruit and because paramecia’s are the most common that is what was used in the tests.
I felt the need to repost this comment so people can see it outside of the reply chain I was part of, so to start- I think we will eventually get an explaination of how the fruits reincarnate into other fruits when the weilders of their power die, its the big thing Vegapunk didn't go into about their function (which makes one wonder if Momonosuke's fruit and the smiles will re-appear after their users die). Vegapunk revealed that the powers are related to dna, and in fact was able to not only make almost perfect copies of fruits, but a fruit substitute in the form of the green blood. He didn't reveal any info on how the fruits seem to reincarnate into other fruits once the bearer of the power dies. How that works feels like it could be the key to how Blackbeard does his thing, he has multiple of some factor that the fruit nonsense works to identify valid targets with (though if that is the case it makes me wonder how the heck giving fruits to objects works). Maybe whatever is special about blackbeard is spiritual, which would work with the theme of Inherited will in One Piece, especially as part of ensemble of final villains. Imu is theorized to be immortal, thus instead of passing on their will they refused to die and continued to enforce their will on the rest of the world, And blackbeard could be some sort of reincarnator, having multiple spirits, litterally having the wills of previous people continuing on in him as a parody of inherited will, And both contrast against Luffy who inherited Roger's will, and Joyboy's while being his own person, with his own desires and drive to achieve them, without anything forcing the parrallels to those he inherited will from on him, other then his compatability. Luffy believes in Freedom, Blackbeard in Fate, and Imu presumably in some own twisted ideal...
I always took the "it's not 'he' it's 'they' " line to mean Luffy and Zoro understood that Blackbeard the other weirdos around town were all one group.
Idk how this ties in since its mostly scientific at this point with fictional fruit, but since it was discovered that DF are the embodiment of a persons deepest desire or wish, I had a thought. One cannot have two greatest wishes, it is a singular will and desire that drives the characters and splitting that focus or having second thoughts or doubts usually leads to their downfall. It also stands that Blackbeard the man arguably the biggest believer in dreams can break that rule.
The funniest part to me is that you dont even have to eat the whole fruit to get the powers. Its been stated that just a bite would do it. So those tiny bites Kaku and Caulifa had were enough
Speaking of the Gum-Gum devil fruit, could we meet someone who has eaten the actual Rubberman fruit? Actually, the Straw Hats have never found a DF. It could be quite interesting if they were the ones who find the legit GumGum DF, if it exists.
I think the magic veil BB used on WB was to capture the Devil Fruit in the moment of it leaving WB's body and eating it. His Fruit ability most likely allows him to eat more along side it because of all consuming void has no limits or Yami awkening ability allows for such a thing.

There has been speculation that Saturn exploding was caused by him having multiple DFs. Basically Imu's power grants immortality and regeneration which could counteract the effect of eating multiple DFs, once that power was taken away by Imu Saturn not only shrivelled up to his proper age but the reaction of the multiple DFs took effect, causing him to explode. This would also explain the wide variety of powers the Five Elders possess. All speculation though, keep that in mind.

Where he's using the fruit's ability to turn himself into a natural black hole to hold himself together and prevent an explosive demise. Also, as for the "It's not He, it's They", I always assumed that was Luffy and Zoro sensing the rest of the Blackbeard crew nearby, waiting for the fight.

The Blackbeard part being multiple people has a second strong hint in that same chapter (I believe). During that chapter Blackbeard and luffy eat cake(?) and drink beer at the bar. Both yell opposite reaction to both consumption (luffy dislikes the cake and like the drink and vice versa) whereas specifically Blackbeard ‘drinks’ in the part where he rambles about ‘dreams will never die’,. After that he takes a big sip from a drink and says ‘this is a very nice drink’.

Anyway, i was about to go on the how low the probability of such tranfusion happening, since they already need to have the same blood type to begin with. And blood related families can still have different blood type. And then not only they neede to be injured so bad that they need blood transfusion, it cannot be too bad that they die first. And then there's the problem about medical service being overseer by the world government, etc.
I'd say the total probability of that happens is lower than being struck by lightning 3 times naturally. But on second thought its not an absolute proof.

What's Blackbeard did under the blanket is not a mystery, we already know. Even if the history still didn't reveal it explicitly, we already have enough puzzle pieces to find it out with a good level of security. It's like Big Mom being Lola's mother and the admiral Green Bull (before his name was revealed) having plant based powers that allow him to make photosintesis and therefore not having to eat. We already knew these things before they were revealed, they were SO OBVIOUS that was no surprise at all when they were confirmed. So here goes the solid theory that, unfortunately, is not as fun as the one in this video:
Blackbeard have the devil fruits book guide, the one Sanji read when he was a child. So he knows what king of fruit carry what type of powers. That's how he knew Tatch's truit was the yami yami he wanted and then killed the nakama to obtain it. That's also how his tripulation is stealing devil fruit powers from killed characters like Absalom.
It was revealed in Punk Hazard that when a devil fruit user dies, their fruit reborns in the closest fruit as the same kind, we saw that happening with a Smile. That's how DoFlamingo obtained the mera mera fruit for his tournment. The mera mera have the appearance of a japanese melon. The closest japanese melon to Ace when he died became the new mera mera. The closes banana bunch when Kaku dies will become the next Ushi Ushi, the closes pineapple when Buggy dies, and so on. Therefore, Blackbeard, knowing what kind of fruit the gura gura is, cause the content is in the book. did bring that fruit with him to Marineford. What he did under the blanket was to see a regular fruit transforming in the new Gura Gura and them simply eating it.
I'm nearly 100% sure of this explanation, the pieces are given and it's not hard to merge them. Just like in Lola and Aramaki's cases, it's so obvious that doesn't look like a mystery at all to me.
The canibalistic explanation don't fit the history. I do believe Big Mom had eaten mother Carmel and got her powers via canibalism but, as explained in a previous video here in Grand Line Review, this is a very dark theme for Shonen Jump. In order to publish the history in a magazine for teenagers, certain details can't be explicit, they need to remain just implied. The explanation for Blackbead having two devil fruit powers, however, is too much important to the history to not be explicitly told, it can't remain implied for the rest of the story. So, if was Oda's intention to reveal that Blackbeard antropophagized Whitebeard, there is no reason to not make it explicity in Linlin's flashback too.
This is by far a very solid theory.
Your assumption that a fruit is reborn in the closest fruit of the same kind is unfortunately an assumption with no basis in fact. We only know they CAN do that, not that it's a certainty that they always will.
Also, we have not seen an artificial devil fruit regenerate. The only fruit we've seen regenerate "on screen" was Smiley's, and it was a regular devil fruit, not an artificial one: the Sara Sara no Mi, Model: Axolotl. A nearby apple turned into it after Smiley's death.

A more serious theory I like is that Blackbeard had consumed an Octopus fruit in the past. Octopus have 3 hearts and he has a ton of 3 iconography. Hell even his bounty 3,996,000,000 can be interpreted as San, Ko, Ko, Ro, with San meaning 3 and KoKoRo meaning heart. Not to mention the 8 bones on his jolly roger.

Your body disintegrates after eating a second one though, so you'd be left without a body, instead you'd be a soul (like Brooke before he found his body) with potentially two Devil Fruit powers. I can imagine that the other DF power needs a physical body as medium for it to be effective. That pretty much excludes 90% of the Zoan and Paramecia Fruits and a few Logia as a useful choice.

I absolutely HATE that I just realized... Devil Fruits would be so so SO much more overpowered if/when the world was far more covered in land than water. Maybe the whole reason the ancient kingdoms enemies sank the planet in the first place was to counteract the kingdoms overuse of devil fruit abilities during the war.
I also can't believe we still haven't seen a devil fruit that just flat out controls water. We've seen almost every other variation and that one seems like it'd be the strongest fruit in existence.
You know what else would have been really overpowered to fight against in a war? Giants large enough to use the umbrella from Onigashima or the sword from Elbaph.
Gee, wouldn't it be *a damn shame* if suddenly the livable landmass of the world was reduced so much that a species of such size literally would not have the space to reproduce and continue their civilization? Like think about it if something was the size required to wield that Elbaph sword, they'd need to eat like... an entire island's food output each meal. There just isn't enough land on the planet to sustain creatures of that size.
Also I think Imu probably has control of water somehow. Maybe not a 'Water Logia' but a DF that controls water feels way too likely considering their name backwards is 'Umi' which means sea, their design thus far has been eerily similar to an umibozu which is a Japanese water youkai, and the actions they've taken have led to the flooding of the world.
I personally speculate that the sea does not actually hate Devil Fruit users but instead Imu - who has taken control of the sea via a Devil Fruit - hates other Devil Fruit users. I further speculate that Devil Fruits are not 'Devil' Fruits at all but in fact 'Dream' Fruits, which possess the dreams of humans who manifested them in the first place. Imu hates anyone else living out their dream either due to some personal hangup or due to his spat with Joyboy.

In some cases, the user of the fruit makes it look very strong when a regular person wouldn't be able to use it in the same way, like Katakuri, Doflamingo and even Luffy. Even if you get a good fruit, it will take a while before you master its abilities, so it's still a dangerous gamble.

I thought the "They" that Luffy and Zoro said was in relation to them somehow realizing that Blackbeard was not only odd and/or strong, but that he has his own crew of extremely capable individuals similar to the Straw Hats.
That "They" is 100% because they noticed Blackbeards crew already.
The "not him but They" quote is easily the most out of context line in the history of one piece. From every perspective it makes extremely more sense that they are referring to Blackbeard's crew rather than he being more than one. If you actually watch the episode some scenes later we can see him with the entire crew, and it makes much more sense for Luffy and Zoro to feel the presence of other allies in the shadows rather than both knowing this obscure secret. It's weird that theory got so much traction even if it makes so little sense in context

We can surmise this is Luffy and Zoro acknowledging the presence of the other black beard pirates. Mind you. As they stroll through Jaya. We do see Burgess wrestling random people. And Doc Q I believe offers luffy an apple. Then comments on his luck because it doesn’t explode.

Multiple people have, most people think it's a zoan. The Kraken or Cerberus fruit seem the most popular. I am personally fan of the Cerberus fruit since it might give Blackbeard the power to store captive souls in his body. World shattering power of the Gura Gura no mi combined with darkness from the Yami Yami no mi and soul stealing powers would make Blackbeard sort of a fake Imu.

Technically speaking, there isn't really anything wrong with blood cells of differing genes to inhabit the same body, as long as they work, they are fine. I am curious how long it would last though, since blood cells die kinda quickly. Maybe if the darkness fruit can nullify, it may be able partially copy, as long as it knows what to copy. It's darkness after all, the shadow of everything that can exist, therefore, capable of representing its shape.
Okay but what if the reason Loki is seen as killing his father is because Hajrudin was supposed to get the fruit passed on to him, but because of the Doflamingo Toy scandal everyone forgot about him. Making Loki the one to inherit it but as soon as he does. God Usopp saves the day and now Loki is seen as evil for “killing” his father for the fruit??? Now Loki sees himself as crazy as an entire nation is against him

Types of devil fruit Logia, Zoan, and Paramecia.
Which means that it might be because they ate the same type of devil fruit or different devil fruit that they supposedly died.
And Blackbeard's devil fruit allows them to supposedly absorb other people's devil fruits when he touches them so he could actually handle touches more than one person contemporary is all the devil fruit powers so if he want to eat multiple devil fruit he power should allow him to survive and use them.

When Blackbeard defeated Boa he mentioned keeping her around after he took her DF power. This tells us that whateever means he uses to extract fruit powers from other users aren't necessarily fatal, it just happens to be that the two confirmed ones (Whitebeard and Absalom) are both dead.

I don't think Luffy and Zoro were talking about Blackbeard when he said "they". Because directly afterwards it revealed Teaches Crew to us. Luffy and Zoro knew the man had his crew with him. They were the Blackbeard pirates. Not multiple personalities or trying to be hip.

Imagine the disappointment of eating a devil fruit only to receive anaphylactic shock.
I’ve always suspected that devil fruits are all so different and unique that without knowing exactly what is changing genetically from both fruit, there’s simply a higher than average risk that the two fruit overlap and are therefor incompatible. However if by chance or by very careful analysis of a prior user of both fruit, it would be possible for their effects to not overlap and be compatible.
Dr Vegapunk’s work side steps this a bit by simply altering the genetic changes individually, simply choosing one set or the other for any overlapping changes. This may be why they are limited to using only one power at a time, and this would also explain why the Seraphim could wield multiple powers that are otherwise would be incompatible in a single being.
All this is not to discount any extra “specialness” a being comprised of multiple people like the theory of Blackbeard speculates and their separate ability to wield multiple devil fruit.
It stuns me that in 25 years of devil fruit eating pirate manga, I've never seen anyone wearing floaties...
Blackbeard is a special case, since his Dark-dark fruit can negate devil fruit powers, he can "Turn off" either of his powers at any particular time, so he has two powers, but can only use one of them at a time.

I shit my pants, lost the ability to swim, and then got neither of the two powers.
My theory is that if the devil fruits are compatible you will gain both powers and the ones that were tested weren’t compatible.
A way this could work is that you can only have one of each type of fruit and because paramecia’s are the most common that is what was used in the tests.
I felt the need to repost this comment so people can see it outside of the reply chain I was part of, so to start- I think we will eventually get an explaination of how the fruits reincarnate into other fruits when the weilders of their power die, its the big thing Vegapunk didn't go into about their function (which makes one wonder if Momonosuke's fruit and the smiles will re-appear after their users die).
Vegapunk revealed that the powers are related to dna, and in fact was able to not only make almost perfect copies of fruits, but a fruit substitute in the form of the green blood. He didn't reveal any info on how the fruits seem to reincarnate into other fruits once the bearer of the power dies. How that works feels like it could be the key to how Blackbeard does his thing, he has multiple of some factor that the fruit nonsense works to identify valid targets with (though if that is the case it makes me wonder how the heck giving fruits to objects works). Maybe whatever is special about blackbeard is spiritual, which would work with the theme of Inherited will in One Piece, especially as part of ensemble of final villains. Imu is theorized to be immortal, thus instead of passing on their will they refused to die and continued to enforce their will on the rest of the world, And blackbeard could be some sort of reincarnator, having multiple spirits, litterally having the wills of previous people continuing on in him as a parody of inherited will, And both contrast against Luffy who inherited Roger's will, and Joyboy's while being his own person, with his own desires and drive to achieve them, without anything forcing the parrallels to those he inherited will from on him, other then his compatability.
Luffy believes in Freedom, Blackbeard in Fate, and Imu presumably in some own twisted ideal...

Idk how this ties in since its mostly scientific at this point with fictional fruit, but since it was discovered that DF are the embodiment of a persons deepest desire or wish, I had a thought. One cannot have two greatest wishes, it is a singular will and desire that drives the characters and splitting that focus or having second thoughts or doubts usually leads to their downfall. It also stands that Blackbeard the man arguably the biggest believer in dreams can break that rule.

I think the magic veil BB used on WB was to capture the Devil Fruit in the moment of it leaving WB's body and eating it.
His Fruit ability most likely allows him to eat more along side it because of all consuming void has no limits or Yami awkening ability allows for such a thing.
