    In this video, I demonstrate painting a value study with one of my art students using a minimalist palette of titanium white, ultramarine blue, and burnt sienna.
    This tutorial focuses on a serene landscape featuring trees and a quaint country road.
    This video is about understanding the essence of tonal values in the landscape and seeing the lights and darks, which is the key to creating realistic paintings with depth.
    If your paintings look flat or you're striving for that elusive realism, this value study exercise will elevate your painting skills to new heights.

    Two things I love: You keep the reference photo in our view and there is no distracting music. Great lesson, thanks for the tips!

    Sam, you are an interesting and analytical teacher. This video is without music - good! Many teachers' videos are almost unwatchable because there is always annoying music or noise called music in the background. - Thanks for this video!

    Lovely value study. Well done! Thank you. Just wanted to tell you, they are tree "trunks" and branches.

      Thank you so much. I was an arborist for years and wrote many tree reports. The tree trunk refers to the base of the tree, and the main leaders are also referred to as stems 😀

    Very helpful. After this exercise do we paint the landscape?

    • @SamuelEarpArtist
      @SamuelEarpArtist  3 месяца назад +1

      Yes, absolutely. You don’t need to do this value study exercise every time you do a painting, but it is worth doing a couple of times to help you understand tonal values. 😀
