In the late 90's I was at Catterick. Did they build a whole new base for trainees? I tried looking for my old barracks on google maps, but I can't find it haha.
@@Stephen-Steven-Stephens Yeah sorry to hear that, it definitely can happen to the best anytime. Big thanks to people like yourself and the people you served with, hope your Christmas went well
Was here 27 years ago in 1996 seems to have changed a lot since then l was in the Irish Guards finished my training in the summer got to my battalion in London did the trooping of the colour and a month later went AWOL because they won’t allow me to get married because I said I was too young being 22 but I’m still married to the same woman 27 years later.
What utter RUBBISH!!!!!!! I am ex RAF so I cannot speak for the pongo's. However, day one we was rudely told to get on a bus, we was then given a roll call and shown to our blocks, we then met our NCO's, and then shown how to iron etc etc. The next day we was marching in a hanger going left, right, left. Apart from getting food we never saw the NAAFI for the first couple of weeks, and then you are allowed out after those first couple of weeks. We could go to the NAAFI and then into the local towns and cities, you don't see shit when you first get there. You are broken down first, and once you start becoming men, that is when things get a bit softer.
Went through here 10 years ago it’s changed a lot since then from what I can see. Good luck to anyone who’s starting you will enjoy it
