    How come it's mixed regiments you've got Scottish Irish Welsh and English regiments is this new because when I joined in 1988 recruits passed out in respective depots for instance I was in the Irish guards so we trained and passed out at pirbright. My brother the king' s Regiment at strensall.with was the king' s Division headquarters . But was this a regular or reserve passing out parade either way not up to 1980s standard.

    • @rashidahmad7830
      @rashidahmad7830 2 года назад +2

      The Army has shrunk so much that it's not possible to have regimental nor divisional depots to do recruit training. Even then, as you can see with an ITC, the intake and passing out numbers are small. The British Army must expand to well over 100000 personnel. Trouble is brewing in East Europe, and there may be a war in Asia. There's a need to rebuild lost capability and numbers.

    • @johnbrigg3184
      @johnbrigg3184 4 года назад +5

      In the 1950's the Light Infantry, one of the forerunner regiments of the Rifles, had their own drill which included quick March @ 140 paces to the minute instead of the standard 120 (as illustrated on the film) and double march in lieu of slow march. As it is impossible to double March with a rifle at the slope, rifles were carried at the Trail which made fixed bayonets impractical, not least to the man in front. When I did a Guards run drill course I had to learn Fix Bayonets as a drill move as well as slope arms etc. Also to slow everything down to the ponderous "wooden top" speed!

    • @johnsabini3351
      @johnsabini3351 2 года назад +1

      Goes back to 1800's 60th Royal Americans & 95th Rifles - at the trail more practical when moving in skirmishing open order plus when moving through forested areas and broken ground. The early Baker rifle had a long sword bayonet and left in scabbard until needed, to this day bayonets are referred to as swords in rifle regiments.
