  • ‘Sublime Resplendence’, are my adjectives to describe the effort and performances at Sandhurst Military Academy this week.
Thanks to Col Sunderland, Commander of the #ArmyEngagementTeam and Lt Col Al-haji for our invite to attend #2019PassingOutParade @ #Sandhurst. It’s was encouraging to see an increase in the number of women graduating. Yet disappointing was the number/percentage of persons of British-African heritage represented. So well done to those that had made the grade and continue to create a future of racial equality and participation. We salute you.

Thank for uploading your video but I could really have done without your racial/political diatribe. First off, you can't make people apply - especially for something like national service. Secondly, what kind of numbers were you expecting when people of that heritage only make up 3% of the population? Why not just be happy that anyone, with the state of the government or MoD, is willing to give so much of themselves? Wishes for happiness, health, and success to young men and women of the 2019 graduating class

Why do some carry swords but others rifles? They are all officers correct or are the rifle carrying ones still in training?

Those carrying swords are about to pass out and have a matter of days left at the academy until they commission. Those carrying rifles are the junior and intermediate intakes, the parade marking their progress onto the next stage of the 44 week course.

I was a Cadet at Texas A&M University from an Army family my dad retired as a CSM, he wanted for me to be an officer. During the Spring semester of my sophomore year I dropped out thinking that the war wouldn’t last until my7 commission date of May 1970. Knowing full well that I could attend OCS. I passed the test for OCS but after my Infantry AIT I was sent to Jump School with follow on orders to report to Ft Bragg and the Special Forces Training Group (now called the Q Course). After I arrived at Ft Bragg I had a meeting with the CSM of the Training Group. He talked me out of attending the OCS. He told me to stay here and if I graduated 12 months from now, request the 5th Special Forces Group RVN and request an assignment to the Mobile Strike Force. In the Mike Force I’d be in command of a company abet an indigenous company. So I graduated and was assigned to the 5th Group and was also granted an assignment to the Mike Force. Once on a team A-401 our Captain sent me with another NCO on a 30 day combat operation; I’d been on the team just 3 days. The NCO was leaving to go home and his company the 43rd Company with 112 Cambodians. I took the company out three additional times with Greg with each combat mission lasting 30 days. After I returned I had lunch with what was left of my class in May 1970 right before they were to be commissioned. I wore my uniform with my Green Beret and the lunch was pleasant. But I was amazed as to how young they looked. I on the other hand look old before my time. As it turned out I was the only one to do a tour in the Nam. I was amazed as how terrified I was at the upperclassmen and how foolish I now felt. Even though I didn’t serve as an officer, I did command a company through 48 days of combat with another 30 days during the wet season using Airboats (fiberglass with zero armor). I completed my schooling at the University of Texas, May 5, 1974.
