At first when I started watching you I was unsure if I would subscribe but now I have grown to love your videos. You're so caring, informative, free with sharing and so interactive with your followers. Thank you for being you ❤
Thank you soooooo much!! I really appreciate you sharing this with me! 🥰🥰🥰
Sarah you look fabulous for 56. Well done you. Thanks for sharing your creative ceramics. It's always a delight to see you.
THANK YOU Fiona!! 🥰
Happy Birthday! Absolutely beautiful! Love all you do!
THANK YOU!! 🤭🥰
The black aventurine??shocked it didn’t run off with the honey flux!! Gorgeous! I love it
I was terrified that it was going to do just that...I literally regretted it all night, I lay in bed picturing it just melting down...so I was super happy that it turned out! And thanks Starr!!
Belated birthday greetings from Turkey 💐💐💐
Thank you SOOO much! 🥰
You are just my favorite. I’m learning so much and truly appreciate you!
Yay!! I’m sooo happy you enjoy what I do!! Thank YOU for watching and supporting!! Cheers!
Thanks for sharing. It’s always a win to learn.
My pleasure! Always learning...getting better every day! Cheers!!!
You have to know - the older we get, the more grateful we are to have a birthday. It certainly beats the alternative! Fun kiln opening!!!
Thanks Mary I'm glad you enjoyed the video! You are absolutely right, each birthday is a blessing! 56 just doesn't resonate with my brain! 🤯 I'm 28 on the inside haha!
Happy belated birthday, Sarah!! 🎉🎂I missed your live version, had granddaughter over and totally lost track of time. But it was still fun to watch afterwards, even with the failures! Wish I had suggestions for your unliked glazes, but I don't have most of the ones you're having trouble with. The mugs with black aventurine & honey flux are beautiful! Thanks for sharing! Cheers!
Hi Joann! I get it, we all have lives and things to do, so I appreciate that you still watched it afterwards! I have been knocked down by Aurora Green, I may try it again in the future, but for now, I'm licking my wounds. 🤣 The kiln gods were very kind to me with the BA & HF combo😅 I learned so much from this kiln load, so I'll be taking inspiration for some pieces that I just pulled out of a bisque fire...and the cycle continues...Thank for watching!!! 🥰
Hi Sarah! Your kiln openings are always so much fun! You’re so organized with documenting your glazing. I appreciate that!❤
Your pinks and purples are beautiful as always. Also love your cactus and honeydew, I bought both and can’t wait to use them! Thank you Sarah for sharing!❤
Hi Ana!! Thank you! It means so much to me that you appreciate my videos and process, especially that you too are a content creator and a fantastic artist!! I've been glazing using Catus on some other pieces so I hope to run Seraphina again soon. Cheers!
Congratulations, Sarah! You win the Ugly Mug Contest.😁
HAHAHA!! There were a few good candidates in this kiln load...that is fo-sho!! HAHAHA...Thanks for watching! Cheers
Happy birthday!! And I am 51 one and I think it is the new 30’s😂. Or at least I am behaving like it🎉
Love your kilnopenings! Thanks for sharing❤
🥰🥰 🥰 Thank you Ellen! I'm with YOU...the new 30's but with hot flashes! HAHAHA
Love the black aventurine mugs!!! Your energy is so much fun. Thank you for inspiring me to be a better potter!
Hi Karin! THANK YOU...I am so flattered!! That was my my first try with BA so I am very pleased.🤭 🥰
Gosh Sarah this was awesome. So many glaze combos and lots of information! Thank you so much for investing so much time and energy into your videos! I hope to catch you live one day!! For the Aurora green have you tried using the base of that glaze first, green tea, then add one layer of the actual Aurora green? I hope that helps.
Hi Michele!! THANK YOU Girl!! I appreciate you watching on the upload, but would love to see you in the chat too! Thanks for the tip of using Green Tea first, but I think I'm throwing in the towel on this one...Aurora Green defeated me! haha 🥰
Happy Belated Birthday ~ you share yours with my oldest sister! Love all of your creations with your new kiln!!
Thank you, Thank you!! Your Sister must be super cool!! LOL 🤭🥰
Beautiful mugs
Thank You! 🥰
I loved your last mug Sarah🎉. It’s all in the eyes of the beholder😊
Thanks Connie! 🥰 I'm still struggling with it🤣
@@SarahWaltonPottery about a month ago I was asking about your kiln . Can you tell me what model you have and how many full shelves and half shelves did you go with. Thanks Connie Allan
@@connieallan9429 I bought the 2322D here is the link coneartkilnsshop.com/index.php/product/2322d/ it shows what come in the “furniture kit” I went with just 1 kit; 3x full shelves and 2 half shelves..and variety of kiln post. I also upgraded to the Integrated Bartlett Genesis Controller an ABSOLUTE must option in my opinion and worth the extra $. Let me know if you have any other questions!
LOVE that tall purple mug!
Lost the bottom when I took it off the cookie!...I really have to throw some more raised cookies...Had I used one it would have easily saved this mug...why don't i take my own advise! 🙄🤣
Hi Sarah, sorry I couldn't join in on the live! Happy birthday, and 56 isn't bad. I'll be 65 this year and probably feel better than I did at 56! Some of the ones you say were ugly I didn't think were bad at all. But we learn from testing, right? I love watching your videos. You're so full of fun and energy. Stay well!
Hi Pat!!You are always there, whether Live or after the fact...it's all good! You are such a tremendous support! Thank YOU! 🥰
Fun kiln opening, Sarah! I know you were not too impressed with it but it's good to see the good, the bad, and the ugly! Heehee! I see your purple crystal turned out more cobalty blue like mine did. I am looking for a nice purple, so I picked up Purple Crystal because it looked nice on the bottle, but it's not turning out purple. Still hunting! This year is my 60th! Always torn between UGH and I'M GRATEFUL! Of course, I am grateful! So many people don't even make it this far. So....happy, happy birthday! ...and many mooooore! 🎶
THANK YOU SO MUCH AUDREY!! 🥰 I'm right there with you ...torn between ugh and grateful...I feel very blessed to have made it this far, my brain just can't compute the data! 🤣 I've learned so much from this kiln load, so many tests and experiments...I gotta find the silver lining!🤭 I have more things need glazing so I'll be putting some of my new found knowledge to work! Thanks again for you support!! 😘
@@SarahWaltonPottery You are a treasure, Sarah! 😘
Like your book lovers mugs
Thank you! They sell every time I put them up in my shop!
Love this and your ‘happy’ way ❤ from The Netherlands
Thank you soooo much!! 🥰 Cheers!🥂
Great k8ln opening and happy birthday! On the running hot chowder comb, try obsidian x3 as a base, then RHC dots, then iron luster or textured autumn, or smokey merlot x2 as the top glaze. You won't be disappointed
OHHH...Thanks for the suggestion!!! 🥰 I've got some more pots that need glazing...how many coats of RHC do you use? 1 or 2?
@@SarahWaltonPottery I only use one coat and it works great! I use a little stencil sponge dobber, which is less messy than a brush
I think your favorite is spot on. Maybe let it go back to black at the bottom. So pretty
That was the intention but the HF ran A LOT so it covered the BA more then I'd expected...I'm going to be playing with this combo bcuz i really liked it...and got a lot of positive feedback from you all too!
I am 82 and I had my birthday the 13th. So you are very young! 🥰
Your name sounds Dutch ❤
I live in Suriname (South America) and my name is indeed a Dutch name❤@@riabrummel808
I have a friend who's bday is the 13th too! Happy Birthday to you too...🥂It's always a blessing when we get to celebrate another Birthday!! 🥰
Wow your cactus looks beautiful on that clay body!! Sarah, I’ve tried to layer cactus with so many other glazes and it just NEVER moves! It’s like the only glaze that doesn’t play with other glazes, at least for me 😂 🤷🏻♀️
It really is very stable, I have to apply it in a very organic wavy fashion to make it look like it moved...I'm playing with it right now on some other pieces and layering it some different things too..so fingers crossed! The colour is amazing, and I'm not a green lover, but I do love that one! You rock the Aurora Green and I can't make that one work! 🥹 Cheers!! 🥰
I love your cute sweater, such a nice color. Did you say Pottery Supply House glazes are sold in the US? I’d love to try soft red, you always have such incredible glaze combos! 🌺🌸🌼Happy Birthday Sarah! 🌷🌼🍀
Thank you!! 😊 🥂 Yes PSH glazes are sold in the US at Euclids.com but Soft Red is a Spectrum Glaze, not PSH. My Purple Haze, Red Wine, Red Onion are PSH. They have really nice clay too!!! Let me know if this helped!
@@SarahWaltonPottery Thank you for the response! I’ve watched enough of your videos & should know this but is Sangria a runner?
@@walkerpottery9296-Natalie on its own Sangria is pretty stable…but if you layer it, movement will happen..FYI Soft Red is a runner!
56. Enjoy. My 75th Birthday is coming up in May. Still enjoying my pottery making. Enjoy your kiln openings
Thank you!!!! 56 It's just a bit mind blowing 🤯 it doesn't compute in my brain! 🤪. Woooooo Hooooo 75!!🎉 Thats your DIAMOND birthday!!!!! AWESOME!! Hope you receive lots of Diamonds!! wink wink, nudge, nudge! 💎 oh and thanks for the support, I'm thrilled that you enjoy my videos!! Cheers!
I think the sound is good you might have to just tuck it up higher and out of the way, also it will be less cumbersome if you take off the “dead kitten” (😆 strange name I know) because it is only important if it is windy out to diminish wind noise. LOVE your videos, always look forward to them.
Thank you for this advise, I love the feedback!! I watched the video back and TOTALLY see that I should definitely attach it higher and remove the 'dead kitten' cover 🤪🤭🥰
Stilts are great for earthenware but not midfire, unfortunately they will bend in the heat and dump your work. Trey wadding if you need to glaze all over 💙 Happy belated birthday too. Hope it was awesome
Thank you Tegan, I had a wonderful Bday week! LOL! !! I've been thinking about trying wadding to see if it works better, tho I it seems like the only people I see using wadding are in reduction firing. I appreciate the suggestion, and I may just try it anyway! Cheers!!
Have you had any issue with off gassing with the dark clays? And HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
Thank you!! 🥳 😁 I've been really lucky with dark clay and seem to have evaded bloating and other problems that others report with dark clay. Some glazes don't do well on black clay...I did have a very strange result with Alabaster on the inside of a cup 🧐...tho I still had my older kiln sitter manual kiln. Since i've upgraded to my Cone Art kiln I seem to be doing ok🤞🏼
I missed you btw I was always refreshing your page to see when u comin back 😂 . just a tip for the mic either put it higher on your shirt or tuck it inside
Thanks Tonie! I missed you all too! I felt really bad but I was just stuck for a bit bounced around not getting anything done. 🤪 It was very strange, I'm thinking it was a bit of Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD). I soo appreciate you always being such a support! Thanks for the tip for the mic. I agree totally. I watched the video and see that I definitely need to tuck it inside next time! 🥰
@@SarahWaltonPottery 😘
Hi Sarah, Susan from Golden Colorado here and I just started watching you and others on the tube. I wanted to share with you that I have lost numerous pieces from those effin stilts!!! Not all the time but they always happen on the pieces I really worked hard on lol But I wanted to ask you how you grind the mistakes or drips from the bottom?
Hi Susan!! I've been to Colorado...Denver, for work back in the mid 90's! Yep, those effin stilts 🤬😡😳 I really have to throw some more raised cookies but that wouldn't have help me in this particular situation. I have a video that shows how to grind off drips from the bottom...ruclips.net/video/U4XnoTvHUiI/видео.html check it out. I have since added a Dremel to my arsenal of grinding tools to make quick work of blemishes, pinholes, and other imperfections. I haven't filmed that...yet, but I will because a few of you have asked. In the meantime the video i linked will give you a bit of info that may help you. Cheers!
@@SarahWaltonPottery You are too funny girl!! I was going to extend to you how I remove my drips, however, you do it exactly as I do!! I would have figured that out had I been knee deep into your videos but as I said I just started watching pottery videos. What a blast I'm having and learning new ideas as well.... I look forward to watching more and maybe someday I'll upload.... Maybe haha because doing pottery leaves me with so much spare time. Thanks again, Sarah!! Oh, what work did you do in Denver in the 90's? I was a stockbroker back in the day but in the Denver Tech Center. A lifetime ago .
delighted owl pottery does great stuff with aurora green.... she uses it alot
I will have to check it out! Thank you!!
Happy Birthday! My daughters birthday was on the 8th
Thank you Melinda!! and Happy B-day to your daughter!! 🥳
You're welcome! 😄 @@SarahWaltonPottery Thank you!
Beautiful ! Please do a glaze tutorial of kimchi sangria and autumn purple 🙂
I will! That's one of my favs too!
I’m watching, so many beautiful things. Just noticed you have a watch band like mine..METAL! Please be sure your kiln is off or unplugged before putting your arms in!! You can get shocked big time if your watch touches the elements or causes a static discharge!! Still watching…
Going forward I will ABSOLUTELY shut my kiln off at the panel! 😬 I really appreciate this, and I think it's good that it's being shared here for others to read! You are such a great caregiver!! 🥰
@@SarahWaltonPottery 💗😘
oh my gosh!! When did it start
Try winter wood all over inside and out and half way in Aurora green woods nice with winter wood and green tea
Thanks for the suggestion! I'm putting AG on the shelf for a bit. I'm still licking my wounds. haha
On the Aurora green put Jade celadon, Dark green, or Norse blue or some other glaze (blue or green) under it! I’ll send a photo of a flower pot I used it w Jade x2 and Layered Fern by Laguna under it
Your pic was GORGEOUS! I've seen some beauties but I don't have the magic with it...I'm just fed up with AG and feel a bit sore about it too🥹...It beat me in the Unloved Glaze Challenge! I gave it a go...maybe on a test tile. but Im doubtful about that too 😆🤣
My supernova comes out yellow if its too thin. They have to be caked on to work and slow cooled!
Thank you for this info! I've been reluctant to try it again as I've been cramming for some markets and can't risk poor outcomes. With that said, I will definitely try it again, and heavy! I pretty much always do a slow cool😉🥰
Don’t rush your kiln unloading. We can wait until it cools
THANK YOU for this!! Normally, I wouldn't rush it, but I had planned the livestream in the morning thinking that my kiln would be cool enough by 6pm. I'd sent out lots of notifications and IG posts, so I was frantic when at 5 it was still 300°F...My kiln has 2½" fire brick and 1" insulation, so it does take a long time too cool. Oh Well...thanks for being there for me!! 🥰
I have long grey hair and the purple shampoo and conditioners are great
Right?! I have to be careful tho, my hair is so porous that is turns purple so easily, but the fresh parts that I want to 'tone' just end up looking yellow. oh well! blonde life! haha
Phew!
Hi, it seems you primarily use brush on glazes rather than dipping?
Hi Steve!! Yes I use more brush on glazes than dipping glazes…I would love to have more dipping glazes since it’s soooo much faster to glaze with. I use only commercial glazes so I have to order the ones that I really love.. can’t wait until Amaco comes out with Flux Blossom and Cirrus Flow in dipping…can’t wait!!
Happy birthday 🎂 🥳. 56 well you wait.... I'm 63 this year. WTF it's scary looking in the mirror. I also have two gorgeous grandchildren already 6 and 4. So quickly the years pass by.
But.....as you age, things that once caused issues are no longer a concern. So if you are positive and live life how you want. Do as you please when you want....life is good.
Thank YOU Evelyn!!! 🥰 And some amazing advise to live by! Its so true, the older I get, the more confidence I have, the better I feel about myself, I love my life, and the people/family I have around me, I am so blessed ... It's just a bit of a mind 🤯 🤣
@@SarahWaltonPottery totally agree. I still feel like I'm younger but the mirror says something else ha ha
Try satin patina base, aurora green top 1/2 way down, and winter wood on top aurora.
This is a Jon the potter combo and it’s dreamy
Ohhh...It sounds gorge...but I'm still licking my wounds with AG! It just never works for me...I did buy Satin Patina recently so maybe I'll try it on a broken piece of bisqueware🤭 Thank you!!🥰
Try Aurora green without all the other glazes maybe just a dark flux it’s really a pretty glaze
Noted...but I'm still sore. I may try it again in the summer but I can't bare to use it right now! 🤣
Don't smash! Refire it.
hummm...I'm undecided..I may refire...I still may smash 🤭
The mini frosted turquoise in the bottom shelf. You may not like it but someone might. Just sell it
I'm thinking of adding something that move like a flux to see if I can get a little interest, but you're absolutely right, sometimes I have to let go, bcuz tastes are so diverse! I appreciate all of your suggestions and support!! 🥰
Can you send me a link to the kiln stilts you are using on your mugs? I need some for cone 6 range and having trouble finding them. Thanks!
Hi! I got mine at Pottery Supply House. psh.ca/collections/stilts-pins-1
this is the store in Canada. I believe the store in the US that sells PSH products is called Euclids. Hope this helps!
I really like all the ones you don’t seem to be happy with! Every time you mention smashing them it makes me cringe a little haha. I think having an ugly mug sale on your website might surprise you with what sells! I think my taste in colour combinations is very different then most.
Always nice to see the experiments you do with mixing things up.
Awww Thank you Matthew! You're right...I may just take you up on this suggestion, everyone's tastes are different, like the saying, one mans trash is another mans treasure...you've got me thinking 🤔🥰
That purple pink mug is NOT hideous! A little refire with added glaze and it will be fine!!
haha, I like the top part but where the amaryllis and WW meet it looks like running snot 🤮...I may try and refire, add some flux blossom or something like that. I did learn a TONN from this load, there were so many test and experiments so, I will take bits and pieces and come up with some good combos. I have a lot of glazing to do so hoping the next kiln opening will be a good one. Hey how did super fan respond to his mugs??
@@SarahWaltonPottery I learned a lot from my firing too..I’m hoping to see him tomorrow, I’ve been off for 4 days! Now going to work for 3☹️.
Luguana is pretty. Tuckers?
Tuckers is a Pottery Supply Store, they make Cone Art Kilns (the one that I have) They also make a variety of Clays and glazes too. They have suppliers in US and Can, I'm not sure about other countries...If you can get your hands on some of their clay is you won't be disappointed!! psst, I'm not sponsored. 😉
I have been checking my phone, apple watch, every thing. so sad
I’ll be 60 in September
We were going to high school together! LOL. You would be in you graduating year when I was a 'minor-niner' haha!!
Works0
I think you have some winners!! That last one I was thinking would be pretty if it was just the top half without the bottom. I love green so I like 5he greens better than you!
Hi Lorelie! I agree with you about the last one...it was the WW and Amaryllis combo just looked terrible together...I'm going to add some Flux Blossom and see if i can make it looks less spotty/snotty🤣...Yes, I'm not a big fan of green so I'm bias...hearing that others like it...I may have to reconsider. 🧐🥰
the mic works great... just have to be conscious of placement. As not bump it so much..
Thank you! I will definitely change up where I put it next time! 🥰
I agree a very ugly combo 😢. But you learned a lot. What does play nicely 😮😂
There were a few in this load that kinda looked like a running nose. 🤣
