  • I show one specific combo using Obsidian, Smoky Merlot, Seaweed and Honey Flux on porcelain plus several completed pieces. In the end I open a kiln for the finished product and several others.

thanks for a very helpful, practical video. It really helps to see the process. I think it must be difficult to find things to talk about while you glaze, the weather, local shows and family vacays are all good easy listening topics. Info on glazes is always welcome. Thanks again. Have a great summer with good health. Peace. Jan

    I wondered where you went!

Thanks! I’m a bit limited on how much I can do so they come sparingly. Summer gives a lot more to maintain around here and family obligations. Hope to do more in the future. Have a great summer and thanks for watching!

I always really enjoy your videos, the glaze application techniques and combos and of course the reveals! Wonderful to hear that Ancient Copper is making a comeback. It would have been a great loss to potters.

Thank you for another beautiful and interesting video. I love your combo's. I'm the potter but hubby and I are fans. One request. When showing your pieces could you please slow down the movement when moving/showing the pieces around. Hard to focus on a piece ❤

Thanks for the comment. I will definitely try to slow down and show the pieces better. I still have a habit of trying to keep things quick and short. I really appreciate the suggest. Thanks for watching!

At what temperature do you open up your kiln? I noticed that you are wearing gloves and just curious about the temperature… thnx 🌸your pieces are very nice

I wait till it’s under 200°. I really don’t have to use the gloves generally but I do just in case I hit a hot piece that’s thicker or in a lower shelf I don’t expect. Just a precautionary measure and for my own comfort.

You can glaze fire in five hours! I’m really curious about your firing schedule since mine is generally about 12-14 hours. My clay has been getting blisters so it may be too much heat work for my clay. Love your videos
    Cheers,

I have 2 old manual Duncan kilns. They do seem to have a mind of their own. My glaze fire kiln runs 1 hour on low, 2 hours on medium and then I go to high which has it reaching cone 6 between 5-5.5 hours depending on how full it is. I know digital kilns take quite a bit longer but these old barn find kilns of mine work. Full vitrification and stunning colors. I work on them occasionally, re-wired, new elements, changed out some infinite switches but they are very simple and easy to repair. Good luck and thanks for watching!

The very high heat in your studio does not affect your glazes?

It’s very temporary. Just for a few hours while firing. I have a mini split and it is usually 72-76 degrees in there most of the time. Love your screen name as I am in Pensacola with family as I type this reply. 🌊🏖️
